Dead modem
« on: June 26, 2008, 07:12:59 AM »
My modem died yesterday, so I am without internet at home. Occassionally I can hitch a ride on the wireless network of one of my neighbours, but that's a bit unstable so that is sometimes down or the signal strength is too low.

So until I have a new one (I ordered it just now) I will be a bit scarce.

If you therefore are waiting on a reply to a PM, you know why I'm not replying.

Ed

My condolensces.  Internet is more addictive than smoking, which makes quitting cold turkey painful.  Whenever my connection goes down, I check so often I feel like the lab-rat pushing the lever in that anti-drug commercial. :(

Hmm, what kind of reinforcement schedule is a patchy internet connection?

That's like smoking Pall Malls or rolling your own vs smoking a favored brand.  Sure it's technically internet, but it either tastes bad or takes a little extra effort to get started!

If our connection ever goes down, Luckily I can take the laptop to the library, find a secluded corner and put on my headphones.  Works at least until I get a DT, then I get kicked out for shouting obsceneties by the librarian. :D

My modem is lost somewhere at post office where I needed to pick it up. So it's lost, and I'm annoyed and modemless.

anyway, thought I'd post that here :)

It's still missing. They think they forgot to scan the barcode on the package so it's not in the system.

Considering I am going on vacation this Thursday, I think it will probably not be found before I go :(

Well, I have my modem, but now there's a problem with the ADSL line itself (not at home but somewhere in the neighbourhood), so still no internet, a technician is going to look for the problem by the end of this week...

So I am still without internet at home.

Still no internet at home :(
As keeping track of the forums is kind of hard to do, if I seem to be missing something (like a char app), please let me know, as it's not intentional.
Thanks.

Well. Finally this technician investigated the switch or whatever it was that needed investigation. It turns out the problem isn't there, as the signal does leave there towards my home.

So now I need to make an appointment for a technician to come and look at home.

So still no internet....

I amire your fortitude, Ed.  I'd have been hauled off in a straitjacket by now, after wreaking mayhem on anything within reach.

Yeah, except it wouldn't help, as I'm at the mercy of people you never get to talk too. Those poor helpdesk people who just man the phones can't help it.

In any case, I now have the direct number of somebody in the complaints dept (so don't have to go through the "please hold while waiting for one of our helpdesk employees to become available" ) anymore.
And I should be getting my money back for the time I was out, and one month free access...
