Rift: Dark Elves think they're Drow

Place: The Rift/Hollows of the Weave
all other Bug Report format fields: N/A

The Dark Elves in the Rift just past the no-magic zone, below the rope are all labelled as "Drow" of one type or another.  Drow Priestesses, Drow Mages and Drow Fighters.  Having been frequently corrected on the forums for calling dark elves "drow", we should correct the Dark Elves in game on the matter as well. ;)

Noticed that it was mentioned in another post, but wanted to make this post to make it easier for sorting.

A valid point, though some of those creatures are standard Bioware creatures, and we won't be changing those.  The ones that aren't may get changed, but then we'd have a funny mix of "Drow" and "Dark Elf" down there and in other places.

Creatures can be renamed individually, but the encounter scripting is likely the problem.
Still on hiatus.  I'm sure my original characters are long gone, too.

*smiles* Yeah, I'm aware.  The encounters pull from the palette, so they get the default creature name.  Rewriting the encounter scripts, while possible, to account for this sort of thing is not a good use of our time.  There's also a whole host of "Drow" and "Duergar" items (as given in another thread) that will continue to be issues regardless without a hefty investment in time.

It's a space issue for all the issues that Lonn is bringing up.  The encounters are a simple matter of deleting a polygon and rebuilding it with new tags - so that's not the problem.  The issue with space is that you can't alter a default NWN creature without creating a copy.  Our palette for creatures and items is at its limit to the degree that we are recycling old creatures and items to make way for new ones.  To create a copy of something from default NWN for the issue of a name tweak is not exactly the best use of space given the amount of effort that has gone into conserving it for continued growth.

I hope that helps your understanding of the process and issues.
