A Fellow's Journal (BackPages)

*written in the back pages of his original journal in Halfling*
I have finally asked someone whether or not if they could teach me the shadows. Miss Alatriel said she was still rather new to it and would be able to help, but not teach. She asked why I wanted to learn, I did not know how to answer. The reason for my wanting to learn is still unknown to me, I know it will not be for bad ways. I do not wish to be an assassin. Whether or not for selfish reason is what I do not know. I wrote in the front of my original book explaining what I said but will write it here anyway. I said that I would rather stay and help if things start to go bad. I rather be the brave hero than the one that runs away to safety because they (those who are against us) can track my every move once I come out of behind a stone, or up along the wall. Miss Alatriel doesn't have to hide along a wall. She can be standing behind an ogre, and fade into
its
shadow. If I could do that, life would be easier on the battle field. To many has come to trust me for all that to be thrown away.
She pointed me to the halfling that taught her. She said her name was "NightEyes" and she ran with the "Veiled Dancers". She said they were performers so they wouldn't be
too
hard to find. She also recommended that I find some fire resistances to put on a cloak or another piece of clothing. I have some on my gloves but that's about it, I'll have to buy more once I get more coin... sort of wasted it all on the new crafting badge.
If I find NightEyes or the Veiled Dancers, I will write more about how they declined or accepted to teach me.

*Sitting in a corner of the Scamp's Mug quickly becoming bored of the bard that is up on the stage. He slowly pulls out his book and begins to write in the back pages*
I have not found Nighteyes or the Vieled Dancers. I have found an example to the reson why I want to learn. I was in a pretty good sized group in a cave on Dregar fighting a mass of giants. We ( Miss Amanda, Miss Ell, Miss Jealle, Malkor, Elgon, Lance, and later on, Mando, Miss Ellis, and Filuviel is "we") just finished a group of giants and Malkor ran off to find "Big Blue" or a dragon... and he ran out and down the hall. I followed hearing a commotion and I ran around corner. A huge giant, I mean huge stood before me trying to ge taround the one in front of him to get to Malkor and Miss Ellis. I thought that myabe, I could take out this giant since I do nothing but little pricks compared to lightning bolts. Well, big mistake, it brought down his massive head and pounded me into the ground like a stake. I was dazed and it hit me upside the head *touches a still healing lump on the his head gingerly* with it's axe hilt and everything went black. I awoke...I don't know how long it was that I was dead... I know that I was because the Mother reached but did not grab and rip. But I awoke to find Miss Ell beside me and she wasn't lieing on the ground as if she carried one of those giants halfway up a mountian. I patted my pockets to find my soul stone gone so I'm am glad the giant did not take a likeing to it.
But when I was standing behind that giant, it's shadow was massive. I don't know how to use the shadow correctly and I went ahead and attacked like a normal brawler. But I could have used the giant's massive size to my advantage and not his. Malkor does it as well. He is a shifter but I think of him more of a kobold since that is what shape he is usually in. Malkor is mean on the battlefield and uses the giants' shadows to get the job done. He's the reason we could even make the trip for fire opals. If I cannot find Nighteyes, I'll ask Malkor while he is in his kobold form. He seems a completely different person while in that form and maybe he'll teach me. After all, I'm not the one that blamed him for my death like the rest, maybe he'll return the favor?
I would still prefer someone that has one form and one form only to teach me. I'll write more if I find her.

*by the campfire in the goblin waste lands*
Miss Alatriel has showed up out of no where. She said she had thought it over and has said she will teach me the basics. She has given me two rings and an amulent that she says will help with my hideing. I am highly gratefull that she took the time to teach me and to give me a set of jewelry. She sat on the other side of the fire and asked what I know about shadows. I said that you need either the suns rays or any other of light rays and an object that they do not reach over. She replied that it isn't an easy question and I agreed. Few moments of me wracking my already small mind she said that it's basicly an illusion and is used to fool the viewers' eyes.. Held only a few moments and if the shadows receed... then you are to your own devices.
She also asked if I would kill for it... I've heard of people saying that they had to answer the same question when learning something great. If the ysay yes, then they are refused for being untrustworthy and if no, then they are refused for weak. I said no, I already know I am weak but it does not bother me. She then pulled a walkign shadow out of no where. It was nothing short of amzing that she could get one to walk and look around. She asked if I knew what it was, and I replied that it's like one of those shadows in Storans. She sayed "no" and that Shady (what she calls it) should not be confused with a evil shadow or shade. She seemed to want me to remember that
they are not alive.
She said that you manipulate through your wil land it can protect you. Can cause damage and pain but with more of a magical attack than physical. I asked if they were solid. They must be solid if they can cause pain and protect you but she simply replied that that's something I might want to ask Nighteyes. Everything really depends on her if I am to learn since she said Brian taught her wrong and I don't know a Bumblebee...
She said she found her and the Vieled Dancers around Dalanther so I'll guess I'll head up there and ask around. No kiss today, guess I'll ask later on.

*During a break while on a collecting trip form Lor to Prantz*
I have not yet found Nighteyes. After the trial, Aerimor came from the bindstone and was with Miss Alatrial. I told her that I haven't found her... she replied that she could be watching me at that very moment. That scared me a bit, that someone could possibly be following you around, all day, everyday and I would never know. I am determined to learn and will not stop searching, I have several moments when those skills would not only have saved me but others as well.
*sits for a moment sorting out his thoughts and emotions*
I cannot really explain how or why the shadows intrigue me so... I am not a man with the most honor out there. My skill at hiding is a passion of mine, I like the feeling of the privacy and knowing that I will not be in much danger if a threat comes since I can just hide... and slip away unseen. I would also like that confort while in the middle of combat, knowing that if things get chaotic enough, I could just run. And if not alone, I would be alot more help to those I am traveling with.
I am still searching, I wish to learn this before my life is over, the Soul Mother is getting me more often than not. If I cannot learn from Nighteyes, I will have to go to Brian since Miss Alatriel said she could help but not teach. I am willing to take that risk of being taught incorrectly. If I am lucky, maybe Bumblebee will show.

*He rubs his eyes and begins to write slowly, mumbling to himself.*
People are fascinated that someone can manipulate an object as inanimate as a shadow. It didn't take long for someone to hound me down to ask if I could teach them. I'm still learning and I will always be, but I've just started to completely clad myself in shadows and there's a certian comfort in knowing you could just fade away from sight when danger... or in some cases, a rather flirty woman appears. I haven't stalked anyone.. except Miss Tyra and Fell... I was only playing "Guardian" that day, making sure they're safe and sound when getting aloe... It takes a bit discipline to not eavesdrop on people, I'm rather proud that I can constrain my curiosity.
The shadows cooperate fairly well, I just can't grab one and make it do physical damage like Miss Alatriel can... I'll ask her about it when I meet her next, she has to be able to teach me that little bit since I have the basics down.
