// A thread to discuss the "Stone Head"(1),
Well, Well, Well
, and
Cruel To Be Kind
story arc.
Children In The Temple
occurred out of "Well, Well, Well" and led into "Cruel To Be Kind", thanks largely to Jaelle Thornwood's efforts.
Grim Faces In Vehl
,
Grisly Find In Vehl
, and
Horror In Leringard
come out of "Cruel To Be Kind". //
(1) "Stone Head" was originally ran as one of Pseudonym's Monday night regulars (not titled as such) way back when. I don't have logs that far back and thus can't provide the calendar event for it or who was actually involved (apart from my own character), but there are a few characters around who participated in it.

**After the latest series of gruesome events, Argali writes letters to the those who participated in the latest search for the children kidnapped from the Temple of Rofirein in Fort Vehl, Alleina Shiante, AnnaLee Ohtartel'selu, Connor Garvill, Eghaas Treebringer, Iellwen, Oma Limetree, Remus Silvia, Trouble Tempest, as well as Jaelle Thornwood.**
Comrades-In-Arms,
It seems the fiend strikes again. It is time we strike at him, though not in response to anything he does, but from the unawares.
Amongst us, there are several gifted magickers. Argali proposes that we use the magic to scry the location of the fiend and end his rein of terror.
Remember that we cannot be killing him. Too many times he escapes through the magic of the Bindstones.
Argali would also like to remind everyone that it is the mistake to think that we can play by his rules and win. Everyone should be clear of this from the sacrifice of the priest of Vorax. This includes expecting him to hold to his word. This is merely the conveniant device he use against us.
If you are knowing how the scrying might be occurring, please let her know.

// Not long after Argaili's missive is received by all, another letter arrives.
All,
If you have not yet learned, the severed hand of a child has been delivered to the temple of Rofirein in Fort Vehl. This gruesome delivery bore a note clenched within, which read:
"It brought me no pleasure to do this. I trust our dealings in the future will be of a more amicable nature.
S."
Not long after, a bag of body parts was found in Leringard with an identical note.
Let this serve as a warning for everyone's conduct from here on out. I hope it is now clear to everyone that threats or actions against this half-orc will only result in more suffering for the children we are trying to save. Do not compound further mistakes upon those already made.
Further, and in contrast to Argali, I expect that he will keep his word, to the letter in fact, but no further. This is the important point, as often we might be inclined to see more into his words than he speaks.
He gave no word regarding the Voraxite priest. He gave only poison. He gave his word that he would release Finn and provide the antidote to his poison, and he held true to this. He said that he would harm Finn's sister if Alleina continued as she had, and now I fear that the recent discoveries indicate too well the fulfillment of that word.
And to remind you all, while you saw to the delivery of poison to the Voraxite priest, he told me he had other, far more "creative" tasks in mind for the remaining children. Make no mistake. They are tools to him, and he will use them to their greatest advantage or until they become too great of a liability, in which case I believe they will meet a truly horrible end.
And so, I advise caution and wisdom. Do not be so eager to act and to correct a wrong or a mistake that you inflame the situation further. I, personally, will tolerate no further harm to come to the children as a result of actions by this group.

* Trouble smirks a little, despite the saddned look in his eyes at the news, scrunching the letter up into a ball and throwing it for the nearest trash bin, where it bounces flawlessly inside*
Oh how I love Screech.... when people tell you what "not" to do... but never seem to have an incling as to what you "should" do.
Mayhaps next time he can go and ask an old Voraxian priest to walk to his death, whilst we stay and make friends with the madman.
*his smirk grows, a glitter in his eyes, till he eventually sighs and hastily scribbles a reply to Argali and the rest of the group*
I'll be ready when you call.
Though understand, preparing for the unknown is always uncertain.
Scrying is of course a possibility... but for a madman who seemed to have all angle's covered previously, I wouldn't be surprised if this was expected.
But try it anyway.

*The letter, while being adressed to Connor, is sent to all.*
Connor,
I am curious to what you will do the next time he uses such an ultimatum?
"Oh... here is some more poison. Give it to this other dwarf, or I will kill this child. Don't try to capture me, because if you do, the rest of the children will die.".
Will you be the one delivering the poison to the next victim then? And the one after?
I certainily am not.
He can keep on doing this forever, as long as he remains alive. For every child he releases to you, he can kidnap two others. Which - I am sure - you also have realised.
ps. This whicked man of course holds his words. There are, after all, no reason for him not to.

A bit of time lapses between Allei's last letter and any sort of response. The letter that arrives is far more somber than the previous.
All...
There is no kind way to say this.
The remains found in three cities, dismembered and dumped as a grizzly message, are Rhiannon's.
I have been asked what will I do? To be honest, I do not yet know. All I know for certain is that I will not put my grief for Rhiannon and hatred of "S" blind me to ensuring the safety of the remaining children. For whatever options lay ahead of me, they come first.
I've come to realize that there are currently no clear answers...no good solutions to this problem that are apparent to us. I have no desire to be idle, but I will not act simply for the sake of doing something. However, I do feel, strongly, that our focus should not be on "S" but on the location of the other children.

Due to a whole bunch of reasons (all of them in the RL sphere (not because 'S' has uncovered a previously-covered sense of patience and mercy)), the deadline for 'action' in response to the last demand has been extended out to the 10th October.

* Trenton, Trouble, and Caerwyn investigate the campsite near Vehl. After an extensive search of the area, they conclude that the site has been so long out of use that nothing of import is to be found there. *

A letter is delivered in Krandor, addressed to the mad mage and the songbird
Dear Connor and AnneLee.
After our last discussion, I have been searching for clues to the identity of S and his two brothers. So far it only giving more questions then answers, in the house in Leringard you claimed S was a priest for Grand, was that based on any proof? The reason I ask is simple, I been squeezing some orc's over most of Miststone, and the answer is always the same. The brothers are not known among Grand's followers, in fact Grand followers attitude towards half-orcs are similar to elvers towards half-elvers and dark elvers towards half-darkelvers etc etc.
The Shaman, priest or what ever the brutes call their spiritual leaders said a half-orc wouldn't be welcome in their secret temple, so maybe we're barking up the wrong tree? Any information you have regarding S would help

*A return note is sent, Addressed to Diet of Lor, Angela Swan. The letter is twice wrapped in parchment and stamped with a blot of wax, a wolf's head pressed in.*
Angela,
Thank you for writing, despite the frustrating news. Our own investigations proved a little bit useful and in truth we are still uncertain what to do with the information except for continuing to follow the leads as we find them.
If it will help, we have found that the brothers were triplets. The names are Segemek, Nestor and Vargen. As to the affiliation directly with Grand, to be honest it was an educated guess based on their behaviors and actions. There is no doubt between Connor and I that the one, Segemek, possesses a strong divinity and with it the power attached. We have seen it of our own and there is vast doubt such a thing could be contrived beyond our sensing.
Our next lead points to Bydell Castle and when Connor returns from there we will forward any useful information to you, presuming there is any. Time runs severely short and we struggle with the quandary of the next 'assignment.' I pray for a vast revelation that will gift us the last child from his grasp.
Regards,
~lee

Just as a FYI, info from the Loremaster.
Though not represented by game mechanics, there does exist various alternatives to the basic single true coin as a payment method/type. Among others, a mithril-based 100 true coin and basic
bearer type documents
issued and honoured by the banks dotted around Layonara.
Cheers!

// I'll remind the GM that the detail-oriented, to-the-letter antagonist specifically stated "one million coins." Deviations from his specifications have, in the past, met with rather negative results.
Would you like to see the log?
