Bjorn's House: Now Accepting Orphans/Apprentices
« on: October 10, 2008, 04:57:10 PM »
Hello and welcome to Bjorn's House.  A few years ago Leringard was stuck by tragedy in the large ravenous scaled variety.  The devastation was great and many were killed or displaced in the ensueing madness.  During that time ye may have noticed me frantically filling donation bins, bringing huge bushels of lumber, dropping off clothes and blankets and supplies of all sorts.  I came to the realization that this simnply was not enough.  One cannot just throw money and resources at a problem, but deal with it at the root.

I have a dream.  A dream where children need not go hungry at night or with a roof over their heads.  Where the student is taught to be the master and encouraged to find more students.  Where every single nefarious street gang goes out of buisiness, because thievery never paid as well as honest work.  Where those who've had everything take from them realize that wealth is fleeting, and that true power comes from their own two hands and determination.  Now I can't afford to do so immediately for all of them, but I figure I can take at least 20 at a time, teach them the moral values and crafting skills they need to survive and prospire, in the hopes that they too will carry on their work and each build a house for twenty more when they are successful enough.  So I have converted my mansion in Leringard into an apprenticehall, now capable of feeding, clothing and housing 20 young uns from around 5 years on up to their late teens.  My plan is that they will learn.  Smelting, Gemcraft, Tailoring, Tools, armor, weapons, reading, writing, scribing, carpentry, tinkering, commerce and even self-defense.  I've already converted one of my warehouse rooms into a small crafthall, with a professional forge, anvil and wheelbarrow outside.

It is my hope that I'll see many of you older uns there as well.  Not so much for donations, I'm wealthy enough as it is after all, but to help me in their training.  I would ask that any with experience in any craft send me word should you wish to volunteer for classes, or any of ye scholars out there, mathemeticians, bards and the like would be interested in telling the wee un tales.  Of course I am also now taking applications for wee uns interested in signing up.  Preferential placement will be given to the poorest of applicants, especially those orphaned by the dragon attacks or similar circumstances.

There is no reason whatsoever for any one to go hungry or resort to thievery as a means of survival in this day and age.  Nor should illiteracy or poverty remain the standard of the world.  Each of my students shall be trained not only to craft, think and reason, but most importantly to teach as well.  For it is Dorand who said, "Better to teach a man to forge than just give him an axe".  As a dwarf of only around two centuries, I reckon I have plenty more fight left in me to keep training lads for the next half millenia or so.  That'll be plenty of generations yet, and generations after them that can benefit from this method.  Father Logan shall be available living on-site in case of any medical emergencies, and is my first instructor specializing in spellcraft, reading, scribing, and ethics.  I will be on site for security, and teaching the forge, carpentry, gemcraft and supplying craftable natural resources for them to work with.  Knowledge is our armor and skill is our weapon.  This fight we fight will not be on the field of battle, but in the forge, the tables and the classroom.

Upon graduation I will be working with the guilds to see about specialized training for them, let them meet the right people and get a foot in the door of industry.  Any guilds interested in sponsorship in the next few years please contact me at 128 Leringard.  I also invite any mage guilds to send a representative to test the younguns for magical potential, in case they'd be better served in the mage guild.

Dorand bless you all for your help.  I be needing some beds and classroom seats filled just as much as I need instructors.  Also, any homeowners in Leringard who would see fit to donate usage of their outdoor forges, please let me know.  Could use all the forges we can get!

//sorry for the massive resolutions.  Tend to forget that most people dont play layo in ludicrously huge modes.  Hopefully the fitto-window modes work properly ;)

Master Ironguts, I would like to volunteer my services as a Battlepriest of Vorax to train these young minds on the benefits of lawful obedience and thier bodies on the arts of self-defense.  I may occasionally even offer an advanced course on the glories of full fledged battle for righteous causes.  I should like to meet with you to discuss details at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely, Trenton Bartholomew

Mister Bjorn,

Argali would like to commend you for the efforts that you are making. You make the shining example of the kin, no? Argali herself has only the martial skills to offer, but she sees Master Trenton is wholly qualified to provide the instruction in the weapons and in the moral character. However, if you deem it worthwhile, Argali can provide the teaching of the alchemy. Though it is not very dwarvenly of her, over the years it has proved useful, particularly for the healing, no?

Thank you all fer yer interest!  First thing's first, we gotta git the kids!  I need to visit the Leringard authority for zoning permits and such methinks, might be a bit messy being both residential and industrial.  Also needing to figure on some kinda application process thats fair.  Please continue to sign up, I let ye all know how this goes.

//Have the house up and the furniture placed, whew!  For the kids, going to probably have to do a cdq for bjorn and friends to hash things out and RP getting legal permissions from Leringard and such.  He's LN so he'd be obsessed with doing it by the book.  Hopefully we can get a couple NPC munchkins running about and some ongoing quest series where we instruct classes, help train, find runaways, etc.

I would like to provide myself for this cause of yours and the wee ones, as a scribing, writing, reading and mathematical teacher. I also have a fair understanding of the Al'Noth.
