Replacment story for the newly arrived since ozlo demise
« on: April 13, 2009, 04:04:10 PM »
I was thinking of a way to explain how the newly heroe's came to be and what made them different from the dragon called. Why they were better than the commoners. And I came up with this.

With Ozlo calling onto heroes from around Layonara, people responded to his call unaware of the powers of the bind stones. Thinking that it was Ozlo who gave them a special gift as he gave them the vision, people went on with their lives thinking that they were blessed beyond measures. But when Ozlo died, people continued to raise above the masses. It is then that a group of scholar started to study the bind stone even further and discovered that the bind stone had many hidden powers beside binding the soul to the land. It, could change the heroes in some way that would enable them to progress and learn in life in ways that the commoner wouldn't be able to. Mages feeling their power grow stronger each day, than what they could feel before biding to the stone. Clerics feeling their connection to their deity stronger as if the Binding stone had somehow attuned their souls to their deity thoughts. Druids and ranger feeling their connection stronger to nature and so one and so on.

I Don't remember if an official explanation was giving about how heroes came to be after Ozlo's death. But I think this could be a good way to explain thing, but that is up to you guys. So I'm suggesting it.

Here are my thought on this. The dragon called were called to duty as heros to do heroic things. After the fall of blood the skies darkened people starved, plague was rampant, crime went through the roof, dictators ruled, and monsters encroached deeper into settled lands in search of food. The result of this was that many had to fight to stay alive and/or to protect those around them. There was a drive to become powerful to do that.

With so much turmoil many found themselves in dire circumstances and had to act. From this arose a new breed of "the powerful" (fighters, mages, clerics, bards...) not from the drive to be heros but the drive to survive. That type of upbringing (for want of a better word) created a generation of powerful beings that did not band together against a common foe but grew in power to serve other ends, some good some not.

Then the skys cleared and a new age of prosperity came about and in that new age the "survivor" grown powerful and the "leftover" dragon called opened schools and training halls. The existing schools and teachers that survived the dark times found more students coming to them. Many who were fueled by stories of heroic deeds, the freedom of the open road, a drive to make a mark in the world, or just to get their part of the new brighter times sought out adventuring as their path. From all of these things a generation of true adventurers was born.

So as I see it we have the dragon called, the dark ages survivors, and the true adventurers. In these types there are heros, villains, thrill seekers, treasure hunters, and mixes of the above.

Very cool, Jrizz. I really like that "overview." So much so I'm very tempted to post it somewhere more visible.

Of course the question is, is there a link between Ozlo and the bindstones? :)

Well from what I know the bind stones were present for a long time before Ozlo (correct me if I am wrong) I'm getting to that from what I remember beeing written on the bindstone themselves. As to a link with Ozlo, it's not necessary that they would be one. Just that by the nature of man (and other beeing generally), they are easily amazed by big powerful things that can easily misguide them into certain believes. Thus in my version, their thoughts that it was all Ozlo doing, not seeing that part of it was him being the wiser and using systems that were already in place before him. :)

But all in all I think Jrizz version is better, but both could also be combined to give a more complete picture.
