Cloak of the bat bug

The cloak is supposed to give 2ac to deflection, 10 points in hide, and immunity to darkness. While wearing the cloak It gives the ac and hide, but when I used darkness and this was the result:

Since the cloak immunity is not working, I am suggesting to replace the immunity with Ultravision. This should fix the problem definitely.

Verified: yes as shown by the logs

Reproducible: yes

Do you recall if you used the Darkness ability on yourself, on the ground or one of the giants?

I suspect it may matter in Bioware's calculation of whether or not the engine should check a Darkness immunity or not.  I also wonder if it's differentiating between the Darkness Spell and Darkness ability.  In past experience the NWN engine does treat those rather differently.

once on the giants, once on the ground, and once on myself, also once on Cassius. I tried all the permutation possible, it always did the same trick. It's only when I used ultravision on myself when we were heading back that the darkness didn't have an effect on me.

I also used a brace of the scout since I can only use darkness twice by thiefling ability. All with the same results. Cassius seems to remember that he saw a similar problem with the crow feather necklace.

just bumping this one so it's not forgetting. I'm pretty sure every one hates paying for a tv set that doesn't work coming out of the box.

Anyways, like I posted before, the quick and easy fix would probably be to swap the darkness immunity for a ultravision feat.

It's a default item.  We can make replacements but we can't update off that item's tag to the best of my knowledge.

Darkness is buggy.  This is a 7 year old conversation.  *points to the upper left hand corner of the box* Shipped from bioware bud.  They're great for giving us NWN... so let's just love all the quirky bugs that refuse to die.

A UTI with the same resref as the "Cloak of the Bat" will allow the default item's definition to be altered.

As Proof of Concept, please find attached "x0_maarcl031.rar".

"Immunity Specific Spell [Darkness]" has been removed, and "Cast Spell: Ultravision (6) [3 uses/day]" added. This increases the "Required Level" to 15 (from 14). "Cloaks of the Bat" that are in-game would have to be "ox-ed" to pick up the change.

Oh good, someone can do this (assuming it overwrites the default item and doesn't require more space).  I'll have a list in the project forums soon for all the creatures and items we need fixed.  Thanks for offering up your services Script!

From what I'm hearing, this isn't a true overwrite and will still take up space as a duplicate.

Just want to confirm that as it doesn't really fix the problem of wasting space with default bioware item duplication.

Despite this being an override, both the Toolset and the DM-Client create a new entry in the "Custom" branch of their respective object Creators, even though the new template overrides the old template in the "Standard" branch. So, the new template now appears in two places.

Kinda defeats the purpose...

Apologies for fluffing everyone's hopes up; I should have thought to check this before I posted.

When placing the UTI file in the "override" directory (and not in a hakpack), then a new entry is not created in the DM-Client Creator, and the new template is used. (1)

Perhaps a solution?



(1) this was tested in a client/server configuration using two PCs, with the UTI file only on the server node.

In the next update, the Cloak of the Bat will become the Nighteyes Cloak:

AC Bonus +2
Cast Spell: Ultravision (6) 2 Uses/Day
Darkvision
Skill Bonus: Hide +10

Players can ask for an exchange of items, should they desire.

I have been using Cloak of the Bat successfully with Chakar, when casting Darkness (arcane), perhaps it is a matter of the spell from Fehriel being a natural ability?

It's tough to say because the numbers are sometimes different between the toolset and the live game.  However it should be about the same give-or-take one level.

I noticed it too...  but from trying to use the machine that removes light from things...

When will the item be revamped?  next update?
