some rings please

well as the title mentions this is about rings. I was just thinking as of how some chars had bought wedding rings in the past in game and exchanged them. Me being one of them with Rain. But since those rings are little less than RP values they are never worn.

I was wondering if, for the right price, you could get.. let say a diamond ring of cat's grace appearance to be shifted to look like a wedding ring, but keep the proprieties of the enchantment. This way, one would actually wear the ring, and be able to RP about it being his wedding ring and also being enchanted.

I understand this would mean that the 6 attribute rings would have to be duplicated in the template to have the different style. But this could actually bring a bit more RP, if in the crafting you had the choice of which one to do. This way, each rings crafter would be able to make it. It would free up the GMS of that, not that we complain I'm sure, and give maybe a new source of rp and trading a go.

A new name for them could be: Eternal bond of grace. Eternal bond of strength. Eternal bond of intellect. Eternal bond of wisdom. Eternal bond of charm. Eternal bond of vitality.

I don't know if the name or the item appearance is the important thing to you, but you can ask a DM to change the item name - Twidget had a little shop to have that done in an RP fashion, so that characters can give each other mechanically useful rings. I don't know about the item appearance, how easy or difficult that is...

I was thinking more of a whole thing appearance+name+rp, not just for one player, but to bring out a bit more of things to do for the crafters and also rp out of it, without having to ask a gm to do it for us.

This would also be useful in signet rings, like those made with guild symbols on them or royal seals and such.  I loved when Geralt the Witcher would show them to guards in order to get through gates and get information.  The PC populace could do the same with their hidden cults, merchant guilds and paladin orders.  Besides, Farros wouldn't mind adding some descriptive bling to his gold & diamond attire.  That exceptional amulet for instance, diamond encrusted and painstakingly detailed with the design of various elven lasses having a naughty party with lingerie and peacock feather pillow fights.  Just need to add some elemental resistance dust and continual light to that thing and re-title it, and it's like a minor, player-made artifact of Xeen. ;)

Yes but I think the reason why description can't be change beside the name is memory leak, as I was explained in the past. I don't know if this still applies, but it would be a good addition too.

I don't know why you couldn't RP any ring being a wedding ring? I remember DMOE possessing a ring of Cat's Grace that Ark gave her (back when he still was capable of having an emotional investment in women) upon which he'd etched ocean waves across the band. I don't think any name change was ever thought about - DMOE used her imagination.

I can say the same. I had to deal with lots of descriptions Rping the "normal" Rings he has got for Ell.  ( 3 at the moment )

I must say that has been memorable Rp moments due the descriptions we both put onto them, and the significance it holds.

yet , In game aren't other things than normal rings.

Just a thought, too: NWN limits us to only wear one necklace, two rings, etc. It does not say that you cannot wear a plain wedding ring as well as a third one, you just don't have it equipped mechanically. And you can RP around with it just fine.

As Pseud already said, imagination :)

all good points, but it is also not just for rp as of talk, but rp showing thigns, making different kind of rings with different styles. addind a little flair if you wish. It's never really the same if you show your things to people and they are the same then you go into a long description. Although it is fun, it could still bring more rp to be able to craft those.

Even if you had the different style of rings, you would still be able to rp the description out, since every one likes different style of things. But now you would actually have wearable and useful rings that represent the wedding or commitment (which would also be represented in lore if you think about it as it would be wear).

That is what I am doing with rain, and lex, basically rping wearing the rings of true love they got. But really, and it might just be personal, I just think it would bring a bit more to it, if you would actually see the difference. Probably just personal, but eh! :)

Let's not forget that there could now be a market for those rings also, somethign more for the crafters too.

Since you, as a player, will be the only one to be able to "see" that ring in-game, I don't really see the need. You'll still need to Rp those rings to others anyway. So if they are actually equipped or not does not make much difference (you can always "see" those rings someplace in your inventory, put them in the first page for easy seeing, and Rp wearing them to others - and to yourself).

I agree with you it would be a nice touch... but in my opinion not really worth the trouble for the team... and if you have an exceptional amulet (or any items for that matter), you can always ask a GM for a specific description and name (no actual appearance change... but that is better than nothing) - this I've done with Grohin's amulet... and it's really nice, even if it is the standard looking Holy Amulet.

As for actually showing the item to others (through the trade "interface")... yes, it would be nice to have specific looking items... but then everyone with such a ring would have the same "Icon". A personalized description (which is easy to have made - ask a GM nicely), goes a long way already.

Aye that can be done too. Thanks for the comments.
