Is this normal for ogre skin?
« on: June 22, 2009, 04:54:34 PM »
So I went and created Rottie, my half ogre.   After I picked him out, the game engine picked an entirely different skin.

I actually kind of like the skin itself, even though it depicts Rottie with a pronounced limp which he doesn't have, but it seems to have problems with it that may or may not be intended.

#1  The skin is completely unaffected by what Rottie is wearing or using, except for a sword.    For example, I bought him a shield, and it doesn't show up anywhere.

#2  No emotes work.   He doesn't have an emote wand. He can't even sit.

Now, is this normal for the half-ogre skin?    If it is, I suppose I can work with it.   But I also wonder if something went wrong just at the end of character creation.  I had a crash before I left the Eye of the Storm, even though it didn't seem to change anything.

as i remember, (it's been a while) yes that is normal, you can get it switched back to your custom skin if you get into contact with a GM (as it says on your character approval post)

Half ogre skins use the standard ogre model, and it is not "dynamic", meaning armor, helms and several other pieces of equipment do not show up when equipped.  Likewise, many emotes will not animate because no animations were ever made for it by anyone since the creature appearance was designed as an NPC.

Thunder Pants was speaking of the half giant appearance, which is dynamic and fully rigged (or as far as I know it is).

Edit: Even though his equipment does not show up, it's still in effect and his AC and other properties should reflect it being in-place.

I made a special picture for Rottie, but when he died (though an odd circumstance, I have to add), the picture went away, and now he is represented by a skull.    Is this normal?

Typically, if you experience a disconnection during the skull flashing incidence (which occurs when your character is between 0 and -10 hitpoints), you can get stuck with the skull as your portrait.

A DM can fix this in game if you have the name of the file you require your portrait to be set to.

That happened to me as Script said.. A GM can fix it you only need to tell him the name of the picture ( file )

Nah, that's a glitch.  The skull pic flashes when dying or dead, but it should revert on respawn.  Sometimes it doesn't due to lag or other factors.

Just ask a GM in-game to reset your portrait to the correct one. Knowing the portrait file name helps.

you can also have a dynamic "skin"  for a half ogre so that it will change with armor, etc.  It does however make the ogre look like a half giant.
(Or at least the skin was applied to my half-ogre many moons ago)
