killed by... Nothing?

Hello World...

I was wondering if someone could answer why when I look at my Lore page for Chaynce it has a blank in the killed by section? I was thinking of a graceful plea for him to reduce his SS count, but it doesn't even tell me what killed him.  If I go back a bunch of pages I can see what killed him, but the first ten or so are blank.

Alatriel if you read this can you remember what killed Chaynce last when he lost that SS?

Maybe it was from a DM kill wand? I know I have a blank where that happened to me once...

This can also happen if a GM is possessing a creature (on a quest for instance) and the creature kills you during the possession.

A blank killer can indicate a couple of things, but generally it means that the game could not locate the "killer" object anymore.

Examples of this might be a CON buff from another character that expires sometime after the character logs off, or a lingering effect (i.e. poison) from a creature that was killed before the character.

Given Chaynce's location at the time, I'd guess the latter was likely.

In addition to Leanthar's comment, the following will cause you to have a blank death.[LIST=1]

• You were low on hitpoints and your spell of endurance ran out.  (This can happen, even if you decide to rest.)   Reduction of hitpoints through CON reduction from poison or disease seem to do it as well.
• You were knocked into negative hit points, stabilized, the opponent that hurt you was slain, but you then lost connectivity.   Then, when you re-log in, you are knocked back into negative hitpoints, and don't stabilize - dying (because nobody was around to help heal you).
• On transitioning, when the server desperately needs a reset, you can just die for no explicable reason.

Basically, unless the cause is immediately apparent, the "Killed by" field is left blank.

I've never heard of sudden death while transitioning "for no explicable reason."  Can you provide more information about this (approximate date(s)/location(s)/etc)?

Edit: Your characters only have two "blank" killers according to our database.  Is there something I'm missing as to how you have experienced three such circumstances?

It happened when Darthirae was very new.  She might have had a blank killer at the time.   In fact, now that I go back and look at the history of her, it's possible that the death didn't register with the server at all, and I just misinterpreted the already blank field.

But in general, occasional odd things happen during a transition.  Just a few days ago, Darthirâe was moving between Hempstead Fields and the Crimson Eagle Memorial, and an Ogre appeared out of nowhere and attacked her (and then disappeared).  This wasn't a goblin chasing her. She didn't die from that, but was poisoned.

Weird. The only record of a death of her by an ogre is South of Krandor, not in the Port Hempstead area.  She was level 4 at the time and this was on Feb. 27th of this year.
