Student Records

A thick folder of student records sits in a locked desk in Jaelle's office. Each carefully scribed record is done in Jaelle's neat hand. Slightly different quill strokes and ink shades indicate that the records were compiled over a long period of time, with notes added as things progressed.

Extra student record forms are tucked into a pocket of the folder, ready for use to describe the progress of any new apprentice or protege.

Elven, b. 1341 (interesting coincidence) female, unusual silver hair and eyes. Orphaned, originally from Belinaran forest.


Nature of Ability:
Sorceress; Quite gifted but undeveloped


Specialty/Area of Strength:
Enchantment and mind spells; has potential to become talented enchantress


Circumstances Affecting Education:
Struggles with ethics of enchantment; trust issues (see previous education) Had an unfortunate encounter in 1454 in Creedo, Tilmar; student struggling with darker aspects of the world and how to adjust to them.


Personality Notes:
Student is very stubborn but dedicated. Does not respect personal limits and endangers herself from trying too hard. Has trust issues but appears to be forming trusting relationship. Does not respond well to aggressive questioning and is easily frustrated. Quite intelligent. Seems to be outgrowing her desire to be controlled by teachers--resistance and insubordination treated carefully and not quickly discouraged.
1455: Trust with student firmly established. Student has grown fond of me (and I of her) and looks to me as a guide.



Aims of Study:
Student has particular interest in mind spells and enchantment, which fits with personal aptitudes. Unusual interest in controlling undead.


Previous Training and Experience:
Student first developed ability to daze; does best with humanoids. Was ignorant of abilities for long time; stress triggered and unconscious. Student was taken into circle of hags and educated by one of the hags (Magra; enchantress; competent). Education focused on enchantments, but also included alchemy. Previous teacher/student relationships have been controlling and abusive; care is being taken to establish different tone, but boundaries must be set.


Current Abilities and Skills:
Student is progressing well and knows many enchantments. Has a scarcity of other magics and little knowledge and lore of magic and the world. Some previous training in alchemy. Smart use of enchantments during combat, excellent control of confusion with groups.


Personal Interests:
Student has an interest in cooking and tailoring.


Miscellaneous Notes of Import:
Student is of limited means and poorly equipped, but has good knowledge of plants. Have reached agreement to supply with some basic items in exchange for alchemical supplies. Standard guild prices being used to calculate exchanges.


Summary of Education and Lessons:

  • First meeting: Swamps outside Vehl. Student expressed interest in magic and showed promise, so gave her my card.
  • Student sent letter of inquiry requesting tutelage.
  • Met with student in Tower. Came to understanding regarding tutelage, and gave her journal for communication purposes
  • Observed mind effects of myconids and charms vs. compulsions with student; accompanied by student's companion, Annabelle Switch.
  • Introduced student to Alexei--it is my hope he will use her for some simple deliveries of scrolls to him. Observed enchantment songs of satyrs, and discussed approaches to battling creatures resistant to enchantments. Student frustrated by questions and lack of answers; responded to frustration in journal.
  • Student took two year hiatus from lessons to travel Tilmar and Corsain. Expressed dissatisfaction with her life; feels some sense of falseness in a world where things are not difficult. Feels isolated from friends due to their relative innocence/naivety about darker issues in world.
  • Meeting with student in my office. Talked about her recent trip, refocused lessons.
  • Field trip with Annabelle to the Dragon Islands. Objective was partially to show her the harpies and satyrs to continue to develop an awareness of enchantment in other creatures. Also gave her opportunity to reconnect with Annabelle and demonstrate her confusion spell for me (which is very good!)

Young human woman, burn scars on face from magical accident


Nature of Ability:
Sorceress; Talented and blossoming quickly


Specialty/Area of Strength:
Has a particular affinity for lightning magic; Have referred to Alantha, but student had already made contact


Circumstances Affecting Education:
Struggles with fire magic and has a fear of fire due to previous accident. Does not like to cast or use fire magic and is wary of it.


Personality Notes:
Bright and pleasant to work with, though she can be a little impulsive. Eager to experiment and explore, not terribly shy of risks.


Aims of Study:
Has an affinity for lightning magic, and wishes to learn how to cast lightning balls and delayed blasts such as Alantha's work. Demonstrated several techniques. Also wishes to hone abjurations to protect against fire, and feels more comfortable working with them when fire is a possibility. In addition, has more general interests.


Previous Training and Experience:
Self taught, leading to some problems. A fire she caused when first manifesting power was responsible for burns and severe damage to her family's home.


Current Abilities and Skills:
Note to self--student has expressed desire to update me on abilities and demonstrate new spells. Schedule lesson/appointment.** Did very well in ritual in Arnax involving separation of dark necromancy from afflicted subject.
Met with student; excellent control over ball lightning and scintillating spheres, and can put quite a lot of power into these now.


Miscellaneous Notes of Import:
Family in Kheldell, but limited contact, family a bit anxious about Al'Noth. Some anxiety about seeing them again. Close friends with Samnyma.

Ungifted in terms of sorcery, nor has received formal training as a wizard. Cannot cast, but shows affinity for using potential or stored magic (e.g. infused or enchanted items, items of power, wands, gems, scrolls, etc.).


Specialty/Area of Strength:

Circumstances Affecting Education:
Does not wish to pursue training as a wizard and does not appear to have the Gift. Shows a remarkable affinity for using stored magic or items of magic, though sometimes lacks confidence.


Personality Notes:
Pleasant, gregarious, diligent student.


Aims of Study:
Increase aptitude for using magic; has no interest in learning how to cast. Especially wants to learn to better use scrolls.


Previous Training and Experience:
Self taught


Current Abilities and Skills:
Shows remarkable affinity for wands and most magical items. Some difficulties with scrolls, though appears to mostly lack confidence. Pronunciation is admittedly a difficulty.

Priestess of Ilsare


Specialty/Area of Strength:
Wards, healing, and other clerical abilities. Interested in scribing.


Circumstances Affecting Education:
May have other duties with priestess responsibilities. Does not like the idea of formal education; prefers informal tutoring/mentorship.


Personality Notes:
Blunt, strong-minded, independent, opinionated and hardworking. I suspect our "lessons" will be me guiding her when she runs into trouble on her own.


Aims of Study:
Our only current aim is to help her progress in scribing. Currently learning to mix inks. Student has expressed a desire to learn to scribe scrolls for raising the dead.


Previous Training and Experience:
No formal training in scribing. Priestess training outside the area of study; irrelevant


Current Abilities and Skills:
Appears to have all the magic she needs, but is untutored at scribing and ink making. Has some cooking skill, which should help with making parchments.
