Misted Village: Change Persistant Loot to Chest
« on: August 24, 2009, 07:06:01 PM »
I've opened this thing again and again and never once have I found anything in it.  Seeing as how it's depicted as a huge heaping pile of gold, I suggest that either A) there be some gold drop respawning in the pile to represent the gold that's piled right there in front of you, or B) remove the gold pile and put a chest there, which could physically be empty.  It's kind of frustrating to see an empty pile of gold.

I suppose it might be a big pile of copper coinage unusable outside the insular economy of the Misted Village??

PS. I agree with you.

Well, I know I've gone with a group and we pulled some trinkets from back there by the pile; not sure if it was taken from the actual "pile of gold" or from somewhere else back there near the pile.  Our rogue went back der and got the goodies.

When I was a GM, I used to try to remember to place some gold or odds and ends in the pile after a server reset to address this very issue ... but something that happened automatically then wouldn't be subject to (a) being on as GM soon after a server reset, and (b) remembering to do it!

As a side issue, is it possible for a PC rogue to place a hostile (to other PCs) trap on a chest/placeable? That way, if lonn's suggestion is deemed too hard/unworthy/troublesome/whatever to implement .. then Ark/ could take it upon themselves to enhance other player's RP by placing something within when they visit the village? Perhaps even if it is some portion of what they have picked up on the way there?

if I'm not mistaking, from actually usage in games. A trap set by a pc, has a set number of life time IG. I remember over a year ago placing traps around Brian when he was training to be an SD, down in haven. And after a while they disappeared.

I did mention this once before and the respawn of the treasure in the pile was removed due to two problems.

1/ The Misted Village leader you are supposed to face in the last room didn't work properly.

2/ People rushed to loot the pile every single time as soon as the server reset

There'd be no need for people to rush the treasure after a server reset if it respawned on a regular basis automaticly like many other treasure chests do.  As pointed out by others, even a small pile of coins there would be better than the disappointment of working hard to get there and getting nothing for your effort.

Ideally, I think it'd be neat if the treasure within had a very tiny random chance of containing a real nice item, something like 1%-5% of the time, and the rest of the time would drop maybe 250-500 Trues or something.

Just my own opinion there, and not entirely sure it'd be feasible or doable in the Toolset or not.

They are bandits after all... perhaps that pile is just a red herring... a trap for greedy adventurers. *grins* There might be more than meet the eyes in that place.

I think that was kinda lonn's point. A chest (that turns out to be empty) can be a red herring, how is a great big steaming pile of gold a red herring?

Hmm...maybe it's not real gold coins, but round wooden disks painted gold?  *laughs*  All that glitters is not gold...

But still, if it's a red herring, where's the real treasure then?
