JIT Debugger = Bane of my existance
« on: November 13, 2009, 01:49:26 PM »
Well, I happened to register for a Visual Basic Class at the college... and it so happens that via agreements with Microsoft, we get licensed software to use. It also seems that once you install Microsoft software, it leaves bits of itself behind, such as the JIT debugger. so really, there is no such thing as "uninstall", only "make it so you can't interact with it and disable any interfaces". Thus my problem arose. JIT makes my computer's life (and mine) a living hell, as it will close and freeze random applications, NWN being one of them. What gets me is that no matter how much I search for a solution, I only find others with the same or similar problems with JIT... no friggin solution. (except one, but it's not really a solution, it just changes the error message to "You don't have JIT enabled as your active debugger, yiou can fix this at blah blah bleh blah.")

I've tried many things... none work, so I have come to you... Any ideas? *hopeful*

Sounds to me like a format/reinstall is order here.  Hope you kept your back up discs.

I'd suggest going with CB's thought. Back up what's important, format, and reinstall windows.

If the piece of software is still installed on your computer there's a nifty little piece of software one can use called XP Manager / Vista Manager respectively depending on your operating system.  Now this piece of software is basically, if you decide to follow the links, a piece of software which helps with sorting out your pc and the uninstall manager which comes with it allows you to scan your computer for any remnants of the software you're trying to uninstall including the registry cookies and such.

I found it always works a treat in my case whenever I'm using my Windows partition although the number one problem being it's a pay for piece of software although it does come with a 15 day free trial and as far as I'm aware it works perfectly for those first fifteen days.

[I did find this to do with the JiT Debugger although you have more than likely already stumbled across it and from what I've read of it the author is a defeatist but it may provide useful information to you. XP/Vista manager may be your best hope though]

Edit # 2 - The Microsoft support site actually also explains a couple of fixes and also explains the cause soooo.... here

That's me done this time! :p

I don't think i've seen that one, but it does repeat the same info i've read before... But, the Microsoft solution is not the same one I found. But reenabling Dr.Watson didn't do much for me, heh. I'll run through those links and try them out in reverse order... then if all fails, CBwins the cake with his solution.

Thanks. :)

think I have fixed the problem... I just have a we favor to ask? :D

Can someone make a zipped archive of their Portraits folder and send to me?

Email ==> Link092@gmail.com

I think the issue is with some of the files in the portrait folder. I have reinstalled NWN after using the XPManager (thank you, my PC is much better now that I have actually taken time to care for it.... lol) and all is peachy. I just need a file with all the up-to-date portraits in it.

Thanks all!

There's a nice link from Dorganath in the Custom Portraits thread here in General Discussion part of the forums.
Contains the most up-to-date collection of portraits used in Layo, and after there have been a few portraits submitted in the thread as well.

Easier than sending via gmail :-)

and despite that, the same issue persists. It is the portraits... maybe I have too many, and it's overloading, idk. is there a special format for the portrait names? I see a lot that don't have the "_t", "_s", "_m", "_l", and "_h" at the end of them. is this important? cause that's a lot of Tga's to go through.

well, a quick fix i found for the character creation is to simply to move the portraits folder out of the NWN folder, make the character, then move it back... I just can't pull it up.... *grumbles* so, I'mma go get myself a portrait, make it the only one in the portraits folder, make character, THEN move the other files back where they belong.. then we should be just peachy...

Yeah, with all the gazillions of portraits my computer also takes a Lot of time to load them all up when creating new characters.

Haven't had real crashes of NWN the game itself in a long time in this process.
But it takes quite some time, perhaps a couple of minutes or more for the game to load them all up.

I just skip the portraits and keep a mental picture of what I think PCs look like. For instance here is what I think Emie looks like when ever she has to talk to Wren.
