Make Vehl's vendors Large-City Vendors

While I originally thought only to suggest the pawnbroker be switched to the large-city version, I now think that, perhaps, all vendors should be switched to be large-city vendors. Here's why:

1) Vehl is one of the two starting towns, and it isn't fair that the Hempstead starters should get better sell/buy rates, even if it is just a few true (it adds up). This is particularly true for those races who can't go to Hempstead.

2) Lore-wise Vehl's population is only 2,000 people less than Hempstead (47,000 to 49,000 respectively), so it makes a lot of sense to me that Vehl should be considered a "large city" vendor area. It's also a port town, and despite its crooked history (which one may argue is the cause of higher prices), I would argue that a lot of haggling would happen in such a culture such that prices would work out to about the same.

I'd agree with this.  I was actually unaware that Vehl's vendors weren't large-city vendors.

Upon doing some more research it appears that only some vendors are, as I've checked prices on the ranged weapons and metal sundries merchants and they were the same.

Prices between the temple of Rofirein and the nature shop (likely the merchants of Deilar and Shadon as well) are not the same, however, and as these are very important vendors (on account that they sell much needed healing), it's worth considering.

Although, it may not seem like much. You can get 10 moderate healing potions (445 tr) and 10 light bandages (36 tr) for under 500 in Hempstead. In Vehl the same combination of healing at 481 tr and 37 tr respectively is higher that 500. Not much, but again, it can be hard if your Walking Stick of the Hierophant only sells for 30-40 tr as opposed to the 57 tr it sells in Hempstead for.

My primary reason for suggesting this for all vendors originally was because I thought maybe this was something that could only be changed on a town-by-town or zone-by-zone basis, and not an npc-by-npc basis.

That's due to the deity relations in part i think, the rolls you make vs the vendor and also what you donate to a temple.

Well considering Vorax is Allied with Rofirein and only friendly with Deilar, an enemy with Shadon, and unrelated to the nature store, and Rofirein is still more expensive, then that debunks that myth.

Also, unless there is a way for Vehl goers to get bandages and potions at the same price without having to worry about deity relations (which you don't have to worry about in Hempstead), then my argument stands.

I've always been of a mind that temples should sell to folk according to the deity relation chart.  For example

Same: 25% price reduction
Allied: 15% price reduction
Friendly: 5% price reduction
Neutral: Flat
Unfriendly: 20% price increase
Enemy: 100% price increase (or not at all)

Blank deity field would be treated as neutral.

Perhaps there would be "nemesis" deity relations.. i.e. Toran and Corath where the "not at all" would come into play.  Yet a Toran temple MAY sell to a Grand follower, out of a show of mercy.  I would think this would be one sided, as evil gods/goddesses would never show mercy, so those temples would never sell to an enemy follower.

I will say Chaynce buys his healing kits from the cheapest place as he has no deity. When I'm forced to go into certain temples I'm shocked that their prices are way out of line with what he usually pays. So... leeds me to believe every religion has its own price and it doesn't matter the relation maybe? I mean Chaynce has some good ties to the Toranite temple and would buy from them given an equal cost, but their prices are 50% (estimate would have to check IG) more than Deliar, so where does he buy his kits? Deliar.

You'd also tend to think that perhaps healing kits would not be sold at any Pyrtechon temples.  On the opposite end of the spectrum they would possibly be given away at an Aeridin temples.  Well, greatly reduced anyway.  But as this is a sideline discussion to the original thread, I will preclude any further discussion on this sub-topic.

I would tend to agree, the Vehl vendor should be a large-city vendor.  And perhaps even offer higher prices to reflect a higher crime rate, but have a lower total capacity of True...  ie.
Since they wouldn't want to take the risk of someone robbing 15,000, they only keep 10,000 on hand.

On the subject of deity relations and temple prices: In reality, this has less to do with deity relations than the setting type of the merchant. Fort Llast has higher prices because it is a smaller town. That's why you get the lower prices at the temple of Deilar, because they are large-city vendors. (Unless you donate to the temple) deity relation does not really have much, if any, effect on prices.

But to get back to the discussion as Asmodean (thank you ) kindly wanted to:
While Vehl may have a higher crime rate, one cannot ignore the fact that many PCs cannot enter Hempstead, or if found, they will be executed. This proposal is to get the prices lowered in Vehl to what they are in Hempstead based on the city's population and designation as a starting town, so that those players (particularly new players who need to scrape by with every true they have) who cannot enter Hempstead can get the same price in their starting town.

Currently, I'm quite sure that Vehl's pawnbroker (though last time I checked he was out of funds, so I couldn't compare prices), and its place to buy healing items, are both overpriced as compared to Hempstead, which (regardless of this temple donation and relation argument), offers the natural goods vendor who is still cheaper than Vehl.

All of Fort Vehl's vendors are already large town vendors.
