And if you knew my level of techy-ness and ability to techno-babble you'd know the suggestion of me cracking anything would be quite ridiculous

being 32 that would fit you right into the c64/amiga era..so i had to ask

And I had a ZX Spectrum, not a C64 (C64's were not popular here). I've even recently gotten a ZX Spectrum Emulator and tried Lords of Midnight again. Insanely difficult!
