Pick up a deleted character?

1. Is their a way to pick up someones character they have chosen to delete? Meaning is it logistically possible in NWN.

2. Would the Staff ever consider allowing it?


Kind of an odd request I know... but at the same time it has merit I think. The character wasnt what you had hoped or just wasnt getting played so you let it go. Maybe someone else out there would take on the character.

Someone instantly becoming "X" level. So make the system only be for say level 10 and lower. Most here agree (i hope) 8 to 10 is not to tough to get to. Or knock them back to level 1 and place them in the character vault?

The old owner complaining that the character isnt being played right. Well you gave it up so you kinda gave up the rights to say on that.

A person gaining all the money, items, etc that the released character had. Maybe give the character a wipe of all non equipped items. What about money?

I think Leanthar and company own the intellectual rights to our PCs (permission to use stories, names, etc.), but it would be very disturbing to undelete PCs for someone else to play.

For example, my deleted PC Bumblebee is living a happy married life and has a daughter in the world now. What makes you think you're qualified to play him?

It would be a thing from the date its activated forward. No one can go dig up some old character. So no one going back to Dig up Takarsh Blacklung etc....

Say it goes into effect tomorrow. Joe Bob wants to delete his ranger who he just never fell in love with. So they offer it back to the public. It goes thru the process of being set to level 1 or whatever and is put in the stable with its original bio.

You would have to specify when you release the character that you want it to be offered up to the stable or not.

This is along the same lines as transferring characters to other accounts. Typically, it's a no-go, and there are many potential problems, technical and otherwise. In memory, I think this has only been done once or twice, but even then only to the same player who lost all access (lost password, invalid e-mail address with Bioware) to the original account.  Never has a character been moved to a different player.

One could potentially submit the character concept to the stable, but it should probably gain a different name in the process.

Sorry, probably over-reacted there!

I have a bunch of short-lived characters; if anyone ever sees a submission of mine that they'd like to use with whatever modifications they'd need to get it approved (name change, etc.), definitely drop me a note. If the PC has more than a few levels, I'm probably still attached to them (reaching 8th level is more challenging for some of us).

And that's exactly what I was talking about. Having a character you will be letting go for whatever reason. Offering it up to anyone who wanted it. So in order to do so... the name would need to be changed (slightly). But... would the character need to be re-approved?

When it wouldnt be so easy is when say its a restricted race or alignment. Then not just anyone could pick it up from the stable.

It just seemed like a concept that made sense to me.... the character has already been aproved. Whomever made it just is letting it go for whatever reason. Its name would need tweaked a bit (or completly) But it in fact is still an approved character and could be sent to the stable.

The other thing to consider is a character that was approved "x" months or years ago may not in fact be approved under todays criteria right?

An exelent example is my old cleric Andraia.. she was made in 2004 and I know darn well if I submitted her app from then, now. It would never go thru.  LOL

If I remember right, only if you sign the rights to them. I don`t remember where that thread is, but there an agreement you have to give them.

That as done before, but the team didn't have anything to do. If you want to give away your character to someone, all you need to do is give them the bioware name and the pass. The problem lies in if you have all your chars in the same account... then that wouldn't work. Jewel Magnius was the character in question.

as far as I know unless you signed the rights off to them, through the file they had posted once, they do not own them.
