What would you do?

Just a little something I thought up and thought might be interesting to try here. All are welcome to answer and post up any little scenarios they have in mind. Who know, might even get some put in game as random events... or atleast variations of the scenarios.

Now in terms of fairness I would prefer in added scenarios NOT to but in anything like "You met up with (character name)" mainly cause I would think some or perhaps even a lot of people on here have not really seen your character or anyone much to really get to know them or even who they are. Personally I barely know any characters in the game. Mostly just drop in any general scenario and no the character thing is not a rule... just a personal pref... though you can put your character as the person going through someones scenario.

Now, without farther ado. On with the first scenario.

While wandering the land you come across a small goblin village. As tribal and barbaric as it may appear none of the inhabitants appear to have any means of effectively defending themselves aside from some basic hunting equipment laying about. A fire in the center with some meat roasting over it and verious animal hides and herbs. Another thing of note is that most inhabitants are but small goblin children and there mothers. Looking at you they appear to not show anger or hostility but rather fear and terror...

What would you do?

A few choices (optional and can be added to anyone's scenario post if they wish.)

A. Draw your weapon and raid the defenseless village. (After all... there evil and vile little goblins. Goblins raid and pillage defenseless villages all the time.)

B. Take note of the village from afar then continue on. (perhaps inform the guards of the next town so they can post up notices so travelers would know to avoid that road)

C. Calmly approach the village, finding some way to communicate with them and ask to speak with there elder/chieftain and negotiations some form of peace treaty. (establish trade, information, alliance with the ruler of the region)

You forgot to add to option (C) that during the course of negotiations, you were poisoned, beaten, robbed, Phantasmal Terrored, and finally sold into slavery in the Deep.

D) Spend a few days stealthily observing the village. Determine who the leader is. Slay the leader and inform the goblins that they have the option to serve you or die. Daily feed and water the ones who chose to serve you. Train and equip the goblins- men, women and children- to fight in formation and follow orders. Show off your new goblin army to your friends.

Well this scenario was mostly brought to me after playing the beginning of Shadows of Undrentide and Hords of the underdark.

At the start of SoU if you have a wise enough character when there debating the paladins test. The paladin complains about having to rescue a goblin child. A response you get with a high enough wisdom is "Perhaps the test was to teach you that Paladins are merciful as well as righteous"

And in HotU You meet up with a frightened goblin when you first enter and are given the choice to spare the goblin and even let him ride the lift up out of the underdark, following after you talk with the inn keeper and can suggest the goblin be put to work.

Those to together got me thinking how much of a lawful and even good aligned decisions like those are.

Now true they might do what you said, but then again thats kinda stereotyping them based on there race and frankly if being merciful counts towards being lawful then such is the risk one might take. Heh,  though doubt anyone would be so foolish as to drop there guard completely. Pretty much in any negotiation both parties are often always suspicious of the other.

Additionally, would say even a Lawful Evil person can be merciful. Spare there lives and in return there are in your debt... example: Milts answer.

Script Wrecked refers to the goblin PC named Grovel. In fact, there are a number of goblin PCs out there, that have formed their own little faction of Pit-raisers.

Ah right. but still, that part and the paladin saving a goblin child are atleast in my opinion (and Biowares aswell it seems) good example on being a good aligned character.

As I've always imagined it. Show mercy to your enemy and they in turn well show mercy to you... or as put in todays terms. Treat others as you would like to be treated. :p Also, in that way you could possibly influence the creature/person to be good by treating them kindly and showing mercy... and of course in turn influence to be evil be treating cruelly.

Just my thoughts on what makes a good aligned character.

Anyways, enough about that. any other answers to the scenario or someone else wanna post a scenario?
