Finally home and near ready to enjoy Layonara again

Greetings all,
I've finally made it home and have never been happier. 6 months is definately a long time. I see theres now a new site, the new campaign began and apparently the dark ages are over. So much has changed since I've been gone and I have alot of reading to do it seems before I submit my new character. I would definately appreciate any assistance in knowing whats imperative to read so it doesn't take me all day (just a little shove down the right path, heh). To help with my characters story I would like to know more about the dark ages, like how long it lasted.
I can't wait to see you all in game again, I hope everyone will like my new character, well I'm quite possitive she will be more likable then Lia was, though that does't take much to achieve, haha. I thought about trying to be origional, but then with all the players here, most being excellent role players, I wouldn't be suprized if everything has been tried already, so I decided to instead play what I like and just have fun, which of course means, wizard, female, elf, haha. I can't help it, its my favorite class, sex and race to play. I thought; though, so to be a tad different from my last character (well other then the personality and story difference) I would also multiclass her as a theif. I then thought of the dual class prospect back in 2nd edition and thought it would be interesting and fun to have her start off as a theif and then strive to become a wizard. Since Layonara is supposed to be a low magic world (that could have changed since I was gone as well though), I thought it would be a great idea to play a character struggling to become something that should be difficult to acheive in a low magic world. Of course there would be much RP assistance from the community, I'm counting on it, but I do intend to give her a few small personallity traits to insure it doesn't become too easy, hehe

haha, excellent, so the dark ages aren't over yet, this is accually important for me to know because in my story right now its the dark ages that changes my characters life. What is the current Layonara year right now? Also I can never seem to remember how many RL days make a year in Layo... thats good to know right now as well. I'm also making a guideline list, basically a list of things my character will have to acheive through RP in game before my character would qualify for a CDQ to become what she dreams of becoming (don't worry the CDQ will be for far more developement for her then just allowing her to multiclass, but you will see that when the time comes). For that list there is something I'm not really sure of though. What race language is magic mostly based on? I imagine through the years it evolved into a language of its own, but a race had to have started it right?

The current year in Layo is 1414.
And as per LORE, 1 IG year is: 22 days, 9 hours, 36 minutes

Which would make all the humans during the blood era like 80 years old or something
If you see any of these folks, you see old ladies and men running around. Be nice to the geizers folks (jk).
(And ya, I know we aren't playing the ages up so much and ya, many would be more like 60).

really?
According to the timeline, the dark ages began in 1402, so thats only a 12 year difference, does that mean that most of the human adventurers were already around 48 years of age... thats a bit old for adventuring I thought.

well if ya think about it the bloodwar lasted 61 years
so even if they started at 18 and came in in the middle they would be pushing 70

true, but how many of those adventurers at the end were there from the very beginning, there were alot of new faces. Its more of a matter on how old the players made their characters near the end, not how long the war lasted, and I doubt many players had their human characters hitting that 40 mark at the end

I don't recall it ever being RP'd really - age I mean. Could be wrong though as I'm not able to play very much these days. From the area of realism, any human character that, for example fought Bloodstone himself, will most likely be 60+ at this point. Again, age is one of those factors where a boundry between realism and game fun don't blend together too well - disagree if you must and I'd love to hear a reason for it - as there are always exceptions.
There wouldn't be very many high level humans running around compared with elves and dwarves unless they got that way quickly. Again, I'm sure their are exceptions and I'm by no means an expert here.
