Strange class combinations
« on: May 17, 2006, 02:28:24 pm »
Okay, just name what strange class combinations you have made before and how successful they have been.

I have a few in mind that m going to make very soon, but so far the only one I can name is fighter/sorcerer, is really good at high levels with fancy mage robes or some kind of armor that decreases your spell failure, but on low levels is terrible....

Farros Galdor on another server was once 10 levels of bard, and 10 levels of BLACKGUARD, and a devout servant of Baalzebuul. It was a VERY interesting combination to say the least, and suprisingly effective.  He was slightly better than a cleric at melee combat, kept backstabbing people for sweet damage, had maximum bluff and focus in it from feats like you wouldn't believe (like upwards of the 40s prior ro epic) and his saves were wickedly powerful being boosted by his charisma.  It's a neigh impossible combo to play here, but give it a try during a heavy RP solo mod and you'll fall in love with it fast.  He was originally the squire to a Blackguard played by Sir_Gunky, Xander Kross, and became one of the founding members of our city's united blackguard cult to match the enclave of Paladin players from the other side of the server.

Another fun combo was Druid/Rogue with extra shapes.  I had a druid who turned himself into a wee bird or cat who'd sneak attack the snot out of people in his natural form.  I only wish we had a hakpak for rabbit form, then we'd be reinacting that scene with the killer bunny from Monty Python and the Holy Grail all day long...  He was an impeccable scout/spy character thanks to the sneaking skills and natural form bonuses too.

I liked Paladin/Sorcerer too, kind of like a spellsword holy man concept that'd work great for Lucindites here.  Let's see... monk/druid was fun, but WAY overpowered since the animal forms made ample use of the unarmed attacking and the dodging rather than armor and weapons.  I still loved the character concept though, a martial arts master who studied animals hunting to fine-tune his martial arts in the most natural way possible... had to stay LN too or he was kicked immediately from one of his classes.

The funniest idea I have for a combo is 5 fighter/15 rogue CN Dwarf with unarmed strike and improved knockdown.  The character I have in mind is a drunken barfighting bare-knuckle boxing dwarf who sits in the tavern drinking all day until people convince him he can go out an slay the dragon, who walks right up, punches it in the drake-yarbles and kidney-punches it into submission.  This combo is FAR more fun in PNP, where one deals subdual sneak attack damage with their bare hands and can K.O. a townguard with a well-placed suckerpunch.  (in fact, almost ALL of my pnp rogues take improved unarmed strike)  They don't know what hit em!

PFft.. who needs the paladin part?

Weston's more paladinly than a Toranite

Hehe... I think my favorite was a Pure Class bard that didn't use the song and used only the healing and curitive magic as though she were a healer

In the OC, I created.. albeit with some hacked attributes... a Fighter / Weapon Master / Assassin...   the weapon?? Why a double bladed sword of course.  So I had 7 attacks.. (Like I needed them.. hehe)  and I destroyed anything I hit.  It was quite the ego trip.

on low magic action worlds a 23 ranger 14 druid 3 monk:

Epic Dragon Build. HIGH AB .. HIGH AC... IKD. CRAZY HP...  Druid buffs...  ranger favored enemies...  umm can anyone say pwn4ge??

Another Great Action Power Build would be:

RDD 10 PAL 7 Sorc 23.  Great saves, AC (divine sheild), GREAT BUFFS...   an unstoppable force.

I've made both of these builds and just dominate. And of course there is the cheeseball Cleric 39 1 monk... or add more monk for more speed...   Implosionist *grins*

and the 9 monk some wiz .. crazy amount of arcane archer cheese build... there are so many.

hmm.. and I havent even got into the Pale Master Bard combinations..   *smiles*

I've made a Druid/monk once focusing on Shifting into animals and unarmed combat to improve fighting in my animal forms.

I've taken this idea from a epic character build on the bioware's NWN site, the Dragon Savant.
      Here is the link: http://nwn.bioware.com/underdark/character_dragonsavant.html

That build was designed for a dwarf with Druid/monk/dwarven defender. I left out the dwarven devender part and used a human in stead a dwarf. I don't remember anything else of the build.
But it worked good thought. I even loved the part when I could change into a dragon. ;)

I can't help it I love dragons. I'm a fan of dragons. that is why my character on Layonara (Sonya DarkAngel) has a Dragon as a familiar. Just love them. :P

I played a bard/monk/shadow dancer once... It wasn't a particularly strong build and it was a bit contrived getting bard and monk (bard, any non-lawfull; monk, must be lawfull) but it was kinda cool... being a real shadow dancer, with the emphasis on dancer.

I was looking on the epic builds on the offical site, and they have like a super-healer build - but it takes levels in the pale master prestage....WHY!? WHY!? Palemaster with a cleric seems an odd combo to RP.

My assassin badger was certainly interesting on one arena server.

Those builds are power-builds solely. They have the palemaster levels for the abilities that are available, not for any RP purpose of the class.

        This isn't exactly strange, but Rogue 5 / Swashbuckler 5 / Master Thrower 5 / Duelist 5.

Nice AB, moderately nice skills, disgustingly good reflex, and combat skills out the woohah. THE AC IS UNGODLY. Imagine being in a cavern, chock-full of orcs. You've got twenty daggers and a tricked-out rapier (+2d6 elemental damage, +5 enhancement, and Precise Strike's +1d6.). You start the show with your Quick Drawn daggers going through two or three orcs apiece (thanks to Master Thrower and Rogue's Sneak Attack), then rip off a few shots with a Wand of Fireball. After that, it's hack 'n' slash with the rapier, dodging EVERYTHING.

The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to spend every last feat you get on prerequisites for later classes.

As for a strange combo? Dwarven Wizard/Rogue. FUN character, but rather weak.
