What type of wizard are you?
« on: August 28, 2006, 02:12:30 am »
I was interested to see how many different types of wizard are out there, so I created this poll.

I necromancer through and through. Though I have also focused on enchanting and evocation.

Bilvikki is an illusionist...useful for a goblin trying to survive in a hostile big city, but he's also a scavenger of spells and will use anything as long as it works (which is probably typical behaviour for a goblin).  The only exception to that is necromancy, but not the whole spell school though, he often uses 'Finger of Death' for instance.  However he's terrified of undeath so would probably run screaming in fear if he ever called anything up :)

Generalist.

Why sacrifice any school of magic, when you can get scrolls, and learn every spell ever created?

generalist, or evocation, causing damage is my main priority as wizard can cause some of the most damage in game.

Mith, Necromancer with focuse in Enchanting. Mith isent heavy on doing blunt damage(fireball, chain lightning), usually uses spells that focuse more on your will and fort saves. Cripple you first, then use a few spells to finish you off.

Storold, protector of the weave in the chapter of protection(Abjurer). Greater spellfocus in abjuration as well, uses almost all his magic to protect himself from harm.

So quite an equal balance, apart from diviners, who seem to be rare.

Eight_Bit plays or at least has, a Diviner, i dont see her used much anymore, think she is like lvl 19 or so. Also i think Yardislan is a Diviner, though he might just focuse in Divination, not really sure.

So there is at least 1, if not 2.

Eight_Bit played an elf named Lluleninque (must be atleast 3 spelling mistakes in this name :)) but I think she was an enchantress. Atleast I know that Maddison was her apprentice and Maddison was an enchantress. Though they did both also use divination...ah...they could have been both.

    I am confused....

My character started as a necromancer. but is now more of a generalist using what ever magic works best for her.

I can almost guarantee there won't be more than MAYBE one. The NWN Divination spells are... Shall we say, a bit weak?

Premonition? That's a favorite of lots of high level wizards. Mind you, it doesn't really compensate for lots of under-powered spells, but it helps.

Sure, that's great for a level 15th Wizard, who could easily have a wide variety of other spells to choose from, most of which give better than 1 Turn + 1 Round/level duration and +2 AC, +2 Ref, and 75% Concealment. (Or do damage that, in terms of overall spell power, is still greater.)

An extended Ghostly Visage and a Displacement would be only a little bit less powerful. And an eighth level spell?

Much like Bards, Diviners got the short end of the stick in NWN.

Diviners get a cool RP approce though. On quests they can use scrying and such. I wish mith could scry lol.. but no, he dosent get See invis.. True Seeing, or Premition, what does he get.. nothing i know of.. a bad rep! I originally thought to make Mith a Diviner, but the prohibbited school was to much of a hit so i dident go that way.
