Attention all World Leaders! -- MANDATORY READ
« on: September 06, 2006, 07:07:05 am »
With the next update, World Leaders and GMs will have access to three new tools and consequently three new responsibilities.  Note that these tools are a priviledge, granted to you due to your earned status as a World Leader.  These items will be granted to WL's and GMs automatically on login.
  • World Leader XP wand: Grants a small XP bonus to the targeted PC, equivalent to one hour of quest XP, intended to reward good RP.  This wand may not be used on oneself. Use of this wand will be tracked, and any abuse or inappropriate use of the wand will be noted and may result in a loss of WL status.
  • World Leader Jump wand: Can be used to get a character unstuck from behind walls, off of cliffs, etc. Before using this wand, the WL should verify the circumstances of the stuck character, as the WL is ultimately responsible for the outcome. The player who needs rescuing should also get as close to the barrier or edge as possible and face the direction he/she needs to go. Use of this wand will be tracked, and any abuse or inappropriate use of the wand will be noted and may result in a loss of WL status. It is the GM Team's recommendation that the WL visually verifies the character's location before targeting them with the wand.  If this is impossible or impractical, a voice command is available that will work server-wide: charname>. Partial character names will work
  • World Leader Ban wand: Yes, ban.  It will now be possible for WLs and GMs to enact a temporary banning of a player in-game due to disruptive behavior, blatant rule violations or other undesireable actions.  Banning a player in this manner will result in the player getting booted from the server, and will affect all characters held by that player. Use of this wand should be taken very, very seriously, and should not be done lightly.  The WL must witness the incident in question and be able to provide supporting details in defense of his/her use of this wand on another player.  A WL or GM who uses this wand MUST provide supporting details (screenshots and chat logs) within ONE hour of the incident. Failure to do so can result in a loss of WL privileges and status and/or banning. Use of this wand will be tracked, and any abuse or inappropriate use of the wand will be noted and may result in a loss of WL status and/or banning.  All such bannings will be reviewed as soon as possible by the GM Team, upon which time the banning may or may not be reversed, depending on circumstances. There is also a voice command available to perform the same function: playername> or charname>.  Partial character names will work, but the user should be as specific as possible in case of similar names.  If the player (Bioware login) name is used, the full player name is required; no partial matches.
  • World Leader PvP Wand: Using this wand, a WL or GM can authorize two or more characters to engage in PvP actions for a period of 5 RL minutes.  Each character will get a message stating that they are cleared for PvP for 5 minutes, and after that 5 minute period, they will get another message stating that the time has elapsed. Use of this item is logged and tracked for potential abuse.  A WL cannot authorize himself/herself for PvP; that requires the authorization of another WL or GM.
As was said in each description, we are logging the use of these tools and will be looking out for abuse. As World Leaders, we trust we will not have any problems with anyone granted these privileges, however if we determine otherwise, the WL will be stripped of status and/or banned permanently.
If there are any questions on this, feel free to discuss below.

I'm Fully opposed to the ban wand feature. While this maybe a good idea to releave stress on DMs. I had to shut down one of my old server for abuse. It lead to "I'm better than you mind set" and that will kill a server in short time. I may go into more detail but I just got home from work and I need sleep.

I have serious doubts about our WLs abusing the ban feature. I can only see it being used once or twice in a year at the very most.

Understood, but we are tracking each and every use.  The burden of proof for that wand is on the WL themselves, and if it's abused (or if abuse is threatened) we'll remove the problem.

I think if Michaelis passed his WLDQ, then I'd just air on the side of caution and refrain from using any of the wands without contacting a DM, unless the situation indisputably called for it.  But *shrugs* that's the whole idea regarding their regulation and use anyhow.

Naw, we are giving them to you to use. :) That is part of the WL package and responsibility as well as trust. If we didn't have that trust with the WL's we would not give out the items. So don't hold back using them, use them as you feel warrants the situation.

I just need to query the XP Wand. A lot of WL of course, have a set 'gang' that they hang with so to speak and RP a lot with. When you state it will be monitored, will there be something in place so they cant target the same person on numerous occcassions or pass XP back and forth between WorldLeaders.
I just imagine a scenario whereby one WL could say to his mate "Hey, you did some good RP there. Have some experience." and his mate says "Thanks. You did good too. Here, you have some too."

Obviously, all the WL have won their stripes and shown themselves responsible enough not to do such things. I just thought I'd point the possibility out.
Please dont shoot me down for this....I thought of it....so I surmise many other non-WL might have concerns too. *grins*

It is a valid concern and we will be watching. As stated above by dorganath. An abuse can (and likely will) lead to being banned from the server or at the very least the WL title will be removed.   WL's should be able to give other WL's XP (anybody for that matter)...that is after all an RP to XP reward...But abusing it is a no-no and will be watched.
This is one of those things that we are trying out in order to help the community of players. But to do so we need responsible WL's, and I trust them or they would not be in that position. But abusing things will get a quick reaction.
But the last thing we want is for the WL's to be shy about using the wands for fear of the community exploding on them. If that happens then this entire system is removed. We are doing this for the community and to help out the community and hopefully the entire community respects that on all levels (WL's or not).

I am planning to have some sort of weekly scavenger hunt with Triba, where she makes some item and the hides it in a chest in some dungeon with the PC quest system, and then laying clues and all that. Now this is super neat, but I was thinking that in lieu to not wanting to flood the economy with items, XP rewards could be given to the ones participating in given adventures. Having them all roll for the one or two items stored in the chest.
Now the question of course here is the following, and I'm simply making it here so that other World Leaders can see the answer as well.
If lets say a group of 7 players sign up for these sorts of events and they all participated and all that, would it be reasonable to use the XP wand on them all? Or is this wand more along the lines of simply using it on someone who showed particularly good roleplaying skills during sometime spent with them.
Just want some clarity on the subject. Thanks.

Darn good question. Since the systems were put in to encourage players to RP and to be able to run quests on their own I encourage all to use the systems. What you have planned is very cool and a GREAT use of the system.

On the XP reward....The wand is made to reward XP for those that are doing a good job roleplaying during a given time. However, if it is done within reason rewarding all for a quest completition is reasonable. Just hit them one time with the XP wand and they will get one hour of Quest XP which should help to encourage them to play the game, roleplay well, and allow WLs a great way to run their own quests (complete with XP rewards--even if it is only one hour of Quest XP)...and a player or two might get an item from the chest or something. Just make sure we don't use the wand to give a player more than one XP reward in a given time period (for instance the quest). Another option is to just give it out to those that RP well--so if you have 8 involved in the quest and 5 do really good at RP they get the XP.

Sort of a preference by WL on how things are run and the rules used, just like on the GM team.

Good question and I hope that helped.

Thanks so much for that answer. It certainly helped a lot and indeed I encourage others to use these systems as long as we keep attentive as to who and why we reward people. Thanks again L!

Great idea pan!

Oh, the reason I wandered into this thread heh.. Talan didn't get these when he logged in (he's been relogged a few times so I don't think its a one time fluke.)

I'll grab someone who's on as a GM to spawn them for me when I'm in game sometime so no worries, just reporting.

Yep, I'm aware of it...know the reason...have it fixed in code and it's awaiting a small patch-like-thing that I'm working up at the moment. I'd tell you to have a GM drop them on you, but they won't work, so don't bother. Just hang tight for a few more days, and all will be well.
Note, this only affects those WLs with an apostrophe in their names. Betcha can guess the bug.  ;) For clarity those affected are:
