Introducing Temple Donations
« on: January 14, 2006, 11:18:00 am »
Players can now donate gold or items to Temple Vendors and enhance that Deity's influence.   To Donate Gold, simply select the option in the conversation with the Temple Vendor I would like to donate gold to the temple.  To Donate Items:
  • buy Temple Donation Box from Temple Vendor
  • fill Temple Donation Box with goods you wish to donate
  • talk to the Temple Vendor, you will now see an option to donate your items
  • when confirmed, the Temple Vendor removes all the items from your Donation Box (or Boxes) and generates a Temple Vendor Receipt for the player
  • donations get logged and the value calculated and will affect deity prestige/influence/wealth (not yet determined exactly how)
  • Temple Donation Box does not get taken, you only need to ever purchase one, though more may make larger donations more convenient

Excellent! I can already envision the boxes of bat guano and fungus that some temples will no doubt receive... :P

*goes to Hlint to shovel out the stables, then rents wagons to get to Hampshire with the scrapings, marks each packed crate "Ship to Arabel, C.O.D. temple of Corath"*

And it creates great role-play opportunities for more pilgrimages to diety temples, rather than every cleric just using the Temple of Ilsare because it's convenient :)
Nice work.

"...10% thats pitiful   should be 90%..."
Yep, for a Paladin that is very close to correct, if not spot on.

Yeah, noticed they have a unique power as well. Something we supposed to do with them, or do we just trash them later? Or keep them for our running total?

Ok I can see where that is coming from but I don’t agree it should be blanket to ALL Paladins.
I adventure with Elladan, Paladin of Aeridin.
He consistently heals any party members who require it using his spells, bandages or potions.
He doesn’t like to loot.
He never asks for any payment for the healing he provides.
All because he is a Paladin of Aeridin.  In a sense to me the money he spends healing others is a tithe to his Temple.
He only has a room in a house because he doesn’t have to pay rent.  Now yes I’m sure he does save money to spend on items and such to improve himself but having shopped with him before a quest I know he can spend a 1000 gold on healing knowing he won’t have any left at the end.
Now obviously not all Paladins do that and they should cough up like good little guys and gals.
Just think it needs to be pointed out that just because gold is not handed over to the Temple doesn’t mean it’s not being used correctly In Character.

This is excellent!  I only wish I hadn't already done the bulk of my inventory reduction. :(

# when confirmed, the Temple Vendor removes all the items from your Donation Box (or Boxes) and generates a Temple Vendor Receipt for the player

Maybe these receipts, totaling some value, could be traded in for a diety flag or one of the other "ask a GM in game" items. As an Aragenite, I'd like a holdable book or a flag of Aragen. It would be a nice visible token of devotion to a god, but wouldn't cause any game imbalance since they are RP only item. Just a thought.

Perfectly acceptable SquareKnot, and pretty much right along the line of what we want these donation boxes to be for.

Bumping for the benefit of us new paladins. How faithfully will you follow the 90% tithe suggestion?
