Public and Private Pages
« on: January 16, 2007, 10:29:09 pm »
Lore Master,

There is an option to make a private Lore page.  This makes it hidden from view apart from the few people who have access to back-end of Lore.  I have used this for character planning in the past.  One problem with this system is not all Quest GMs are also Lore editors.  Though many do both.

However it would be nice to have both a public and private lore page.

Perhaps it would be possible to have multiple permission groups on lore pages
User - Can read all public pages, can write and modify permissions on their own pages.
Quest GM - Can read all all public pages and all hidden pages.
Editor - Can read and write to all pages.

along with the following permissions
Public Page   - Make the page viewable by all users
Private Page  - Makes the page hidden.

Hmm Talan can probably come up with a better system as it is his baby.  But the concept is there.

Talan is it possible for a user to have more then one page in Lore?  That is at least on hidden page and one public page?  Or to have a tag to make sections of a page hidden?

Interestingly enough the Lore Query still returns results to hidden pages, if you can't access them.

Cheers,

Stragen.

LORE is actually OneST8's "child".

At least the behind-the-scene-scripting-part. :)

Question: Does marking someone as Friendly allow them to see your Hidden pages?

Lore Master,

Yes hmmm?

This is incorrect. Any registered user can see "hidden" pages. Think of it this way "this page is hidden from un-registered/anonymous visitors".

If this is in fact true then I would really like to know which GMs do not have access to hidden pages as there would be a much larger bug at hand that needs fixing ASAP.

Per-page permissions with per-person and per-group options are on the almighty TODO list but I simply do not have enough time in my busy schedule to devote to these types of really-great-to-have-but-takes-lots-of-time-and-effort things. Someday LORE will be really cool, for now we have to deal with it's suckynessess heh.

No, not yet.

Interesting idea but sadly, it too is a No.

Please provide examples of this so I can debug the problem as what you're claming is dramatically different than how the system is designed and coded to work.

Hmm my misunderstanding then.

Whoops and drat.

My apologies for my mis-understandings.
