General Discussion / I'll see if I can remember
« on: June 19, 2015, 10:27:21 am »

I'll see if I can remember how to ping and find time to test NWN1 in single player mode.

Well you Americans have a long history of using English incorrectly *grins and ducks*

General Discussion / Delay in both it appearing on
« on: June 19, 2015, 09:22:16 am »

Delay in both it appearing on the chat bar and after I hit enter.

NWN1 seems to run like a dog on my machine in general when SWTOR and NWN2 both run fine *shrugs* I am clueless on that.

It might not like my wireless keyboard and mouse.....

What counts as an unreasonable ping time?

Wait....there are people who don't know what treacle is?!?!?  How is that possible?!?!

Ok so I logged in, found the journal entries and tried to walk about.

It's like wading through treacle.  I wouldn't imagine trying to RP or worse, fight with it like this.  The commands are slow and laggy.  There is even lag on typing into the text box.

Anyone got any bright ideas on what the issue might be or ways I can solve it?

Thank you Dorgy!

Ah yes, I need to remember to censor myself :P

I don't remember asking to have any of them deleted so in theory, they shouldn't be.......

New character is like work amd effort! *huffs like a teenager*

I'm assuming evil things like the soul mother and so on are still in place?  Where would one go to check counters for that?

Anything specific to do with Mist or Toran it would be helpful to know?

Any information on well known people who are still around from 'back in the day'?

Who has been hiding the chocolate?

*sat reading the diary Grandma had write for Gwilym's stay with Grandma and Granddad*

"Went for a walk in the woods to day with Granddad...Saw a dead rabbit....saw another dead rabbit...This one had drown!  We knew this cause it was floating in the trough"

*looks to Egoober*

"Gee, I wonder where he gets the death fixation from"

This is from a few years ago now, back when Natalya was about 5 (she is 10 in December).

*walking back from school*

Natalya:- I'm going to marry David and Stephan when I grow up
DMOE:- You can't marry two people sweetie

*Mummy is ignored as Natalya blathers on about marrying two people*

*rinse and repeat for about 2 weeks until....*

Natalya:- I'm going to marry David and Stephan when I grow up
DMOE:- Look, do you not think if you COULD marry two men then Mummy would have already?  You know....Daddy and a younger, richer one too!!!
*Natalya considers for a short while*
Natalya:- Good point Mummy

The idea of marrying two men was never mentioned again

I'm glad they liked it.

I can get a picture of him added if they wish but it would have to be emailed to me

Oh I remember that!

I remember and I'm sure those who played with her will also making the Fort checks when she got damaged to a certain level or when common sense dictated she had overly exerted herself ....

Imagine how much fun it is when your party cleric suddenly STOPS casting and fighting cause one arm and one leg has effectively 'gone to sleep'

I lost track of how many parties that nearly killed!!!!

But then....when Toranites started ranting about sacrifice for the greater good....It tended to shut them up so not without it's benefits ;)

I also remember her being unplayable for a week RL time while the limbs grew back, painfully I might add.

I just want to echo what Drizzlin said. Please don't let your 2 years, 5 years, 10 years whatever martial arts training create a false sense of invulnerability. I too have trained for over a decade in various forms of karate and BJJ and in this entire time I have looked at this training as a means of creating space to get away. It especially alarms me when mothers have an impression that their daughters should have anything else in mind when in a confrontation other than getting away. Any sensei that hints their student should be looking for another outcome than this should have their coaching licence revoked.

As the only mother with a daughter who commented....I assume this is aimed at me....

Yes I am happy she could give someone a butt kicking if she needed to...

Not because I think she should be giving someone a butt kicking rather than a) not getting into the situation in the first place or b) getting away as quickly as possible....

But simply because life isn't perfect or ideal and if push comes to shove one day and she can't get away for some reason...and trust me, I pray that day never comes.....she at least has a much better chance of protecting herself than someone who's not studied Karate or any other decently taught martial art....Forgive me if I find that slightly comforting.

I said she would be capable of giving someone a butt kicking if they came at her...Not that I or her sensei were actively encouraging her to do so....That was your assumption....There is a difference between being capable of doing something and actually doing it.

One thing that comes to mind is a little saying from Manic Street Preacher's I've used for years.... "If you tolerate this, then your children will be next."

There is a very, very good reason my eldest is studying Karate and my youngest will be given the opportunity to when he is 5 next year....

Among the benefits of physical fitness, discipline, respect and other such things is the fact she's getting capable of handing out a pretty impressive butt  kicking to people coming at her.

Even if she quits in a year or two the muscle memory and instinctive reaction will still be there.

I can't be there to protect them 24/7...As much as I want to be but I can arm them to be able to take care of themselves when I'm not.
