NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / True strike
« on: May 04, 2010, 08:58:38 pm »
As it stands now when you cast True strike you already loose 3 to 6 seconds to start fighting, so you generally have only 3 seconds to use it. For someone that uses it with a bow.. it's not as bad as someone that has to run the rest of the distance to fight up close. So I'm suggesting to change the spell so it's not 9 RL seconds  to

1 Round/Level + 1 Turn.

This would help the usability of this spell, even more so that the spell can't be extended.

Rumour Has It / An angry half-orc washes up in Vehl
« on: May 04, 2010, 03:24:46 pm »
Reports are heard in Fort Vehl regarding a half-orc who has come in on a small fishing boat, the original crew who set sail on it now missing.

The half-orc heads towards the One-Eyed Harpy.  He is dressed in darker attire with some blood staining in the cloth and answers to the name Jericho.

Layonara Server / Congratulations Gilshem Ironstone
« on: May 02, 2010, 02:50:08 pm »
I would like to let you all know that Gilshem Ironstone will be joining the Character Approvals Team. Prior to his leave taking from the world he had an interest in joining the team but real life prevented him from doing this in the end. However, he has returned to Layonara and we are pleased to offer him this position.

He will soon be graciously donating some of his spare time to working on your applications and guiding them through the approval process. Please join me in thanking him for agreeing to donate this time and effort to making our world a better (and smoother running) place.

General Discussion / Reality to what extent in a fantasy realm?
« on: April 28, 2010, 01:08:05 pm »
I read some posts here and there lately that made me want to reply to them... but it was not the right thing to do so I'm going to rant here a bit.

We all know this is a Fantasy world where not every rule of our world should apply. I think both sides of this world (Players and Staff) need to keep this in the back of their minds.

If you want the reality you strive for then more changes need to be made across the entire world, Not just to the people trying to creat new characters in it. I read in a post about someones horse not being able to support the character in full armor and garb. Well thats fine and dandy... but why then do we kill fairies that have Halberds... or Plate armor? Snakes that have swallowed hundreds of coins? See where im going here? Why not just accept that in this realm things work just a bit differently horses can carry more than IRL in said example.

I know this isnt my world, but I have a voice in it (just as everyone else here does). And on this issue of using our world rules and applying them to things in a fantasy world it tends to urk me sometimes. Just cut some slack I think within reason of course.

*EDIT* If you wish to be so strict with horses I reccomend a look at the ones in game. How can they support a person carrying hundreds of pounds sometimes over a thousand pounds? Can a real horse do this?

I am not trying to attack anyone person, or point fingers. I just wanted to say my peace. :)

Rumour Has It / Graveyard disturbance in Dalanthar
« on: April 26, 2010, 09:07:11 am »
Citizens in Dalanthar were horrified recently when local militia discovered vandals had overnight destroyed many of the graves in the cemetary. It appeared as if the vandals dug holes all over the graveyard and broke many statues and head stones. Authorities think the desperate vandals might have been searching for treasures buried in the graves with loved ones.

Rumour Has It / Mutterings and tavern talk in the Northern Gem
« on: April 07, 2010, 06:02:12 pm »
A few brave or slightly crazy souls tell of a woman, one of Leringard's local singers, that had in recent months revamped her wardrobe and added a body guard to her retinue. She, who once wore neat and colorful but plain clothes as she sang her way to a dinner and a bed, now appeared in foreign silk finery. Perfumes and daily bathing (because she could apparently now afford such) brought her renewed popularity, desired attention.

What caused her transformation is unknown. Known, however, is that she took to singing edgy new songs along with her old tunes, and that within weeks after her new found glory, she was seen with a black eye and without the silk dress, refusing her previous invitations to sing at popular taverns. And without her bodyguard.

Some speculate a noble made a pass at her and she refused him. Others think that perhaps her new songs were a bit too politically charged in the wrong direction. Most think she just got mugged.

General Discussion / The End of a Warrior
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:38:12 pm »
*Ty tombs home with Trenton's body and quickly brings it to the Hospital desperately seeking aid...but there is none to give*

A warrior's death was fitting, his life in the service of the mighty Vorax.  He lived to fight evil and he lived to teach others to be strong.  Hopefully his memory will be lasting, his contribution to the safety of good citizens across Layonara remembered.

His victory cry "Feel the Axe of Vorax!" should be written on his gravestone and his fellow warriors in arms should be honored to continue the good work, to fight the good fight.

//I've had a blast playing Trenton and I feel lucky to have had the chance to play him as long as I did.  Thanks again to the team for instituting the Graceful Plea system that allowed him to come back from his first permanent death.  Thank you to all those who enjoyed Trenton's company and who made it so much fun for me to play with you.  Your roleplay is superb and you all make Layonara the exceptional experience that it is.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Gem/Wand/Staff of Dispelling
« on: April 04, 2010, 08:15:32 pm »
I've thought about this for a while, and finally decided that it was worth posting as a suggestion - new infusing recipes for gems, wands, and staves to do with Dispel Magic.

Reasoning:
These would be useful tools (in all three incarnations) on quests and against enemy spellcasters.  Often enough (on quests I've been on and quests I've run, at least) Dispel Magic is employed as a panacea against nasty enchantments.

Moreover, because Dispel Magic includes six base classes among those who can cast it, it would be a widely accessible recipe in the infusing ladder.

With that said, the proposed items (see attachment):
  • Gem of Dispel Magic
What it says on the box - same as all the other gems thus created, but usable by the six classes which can create it.
    Recipe:
    • Three (3) prepared spells of Dispel Magic
    • One (1) Fine Alexandrite

  • Crafted Wand of Dispel Magic
As with most wands, ten (10) uses of Dispel Magic, but usable by anyone (made as a magic countermeasure for the concerned and discerning adventurer.)
    Recipe:
    • Four (4) Gems of Dispel Magic
    • Three (3) prepared spells of Dispel Magic
    • Two (2) Enchanted Aventurines
    • One (1) Shaft of Oak

  • Staff of Negation
A bit more of a powerhouse, designed as a potent tool against enemy enchantments.
    • Dispel Magic 2/day
    • Greater Dispelling 1/day
    • Moraken's Disjunction, 5 uses.

    Recipe:
    • Eight [noparse](8)[/noparse] Gems of Dispel Magic
    • Three (3) prepared spells of Greater Dispelling
    • Three (3) Enchanted Diamonds
    • Two (2) Shafts of Mahogany
    • Five (5) Ingots of Silver
    • Two (2) Crystal Rod IVs

(I realize that the last one is a bit out of the reach of Paladins, but come on, they've got enough bonuses already. ;) )

The nwscript code for insertion into the recipe database is provided here, though some changes will have to be made (and strings filled in) for Layo's code:
Code: [Select]
//string sKeyToRecipe; // Probably already defined.

string sMenuInfusingLesser3Gems = "This should be the tag for the submenu Infusing Lesser Table -> Level 3 Spell Gems";
string sMenuInfusingLesser3Wands = "This should be as above, but for wands.";
string sMenuInfusingAverageMisc = "This should be for the Infusing Average Table -> Miscellaneous.";

Layonara Server / Update coming soon! New files required!
« on: April 01, 2010, 11:09:40 pm »
I can't say exactly when (as it all depends on what I decide to do about a couple of things) but sometime soon, there will be an update coming which will require everyone to download updated TLK and HAK files.

I've put them up on the server for download, so everyone can get a jump on the update. These new files will not interfere with anyone playing before the update, so you are welcome to download them and expand them into the proper folders:

Updated "control" HAK:
http://nwn.layonara.com/downloads/files/layo_controlv3r9.rar

Updated TLK file:
http://nwn.layonara.com/downloads/files/layonara_v23.rar

Happy Downloading!

Roleplaying / Accents
« on: March 31, 2010, 06:28:10 am »
I just want to let everyone know that I'll not be using my normal dwarven accent any more when I play my Buddy or Beli. I have come to the conclusion that it has effected my RL typing in a bad way. So until my typing gets back to where I think it should, typos and the like. I'll refrain from using them.

So just imagine that they are talking in a dwarven way.

General Discussion / A call to all you malevolent beings!

[SIZE=13]
Tis the night - the night
Of the grave's delight,
And the warlocks are at their play;
Ye think that without
The wild winds shout,
But no, it is they - it is they.

THE FIRST EVER EVIL CHARACTER CONVENTION!
[/B]

[INDENT]Come and see some of the maligned and depraved souls that walk Layonara! Paladins will vomit and shriek in terror at the sight of such a gathering! Little animals will flee as their footsteps shake the very foundations of the earth! As for those that have yet to meet the other charming evil characters, feel free to join us and indulge in our delightful company!

Now that my self-imposed Layonara hiatus has ended, perhaps it's time we organize something. Why should the others have all the fun? Perhaps it's time we tip the scales and bump back! Maybe we should organize something according to our timezones? Your input would be very much appreciated and as such please post your timezones that way we can find some common ground. Perhaps if we can schedule a group assembly, we can make this a weekly event, if time permits.

Those that can tolerate our presence will be allowed to join so long as no conflict arises. Don't worry, we don't bite, well maybe except for that one in the lower left part of the image, to the right of the pretty little girl. Oh, and maybe even the second female Dark Elf at the top row, next to the handsome male. This is open to all levels, races, and alignments, just take note of the repercussions. Do join us! General Discussion / Hurm ship captain holds horses
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:00:14 pm »
I'm not sure where to put this, as it isn't a bug, but trying to take a horse to Hurm is a real pain.  It's extremely difficult to get past the ship captain, taking repeated tries and sometimes even three or four log-outs/log-ins to force a way past him.  Could he be positioned elsewhere?
