General Discussion / Re: hi« on: June 14, 2022, 04:55:10 pm »
Peers out from beneath the dew-covered fern leaves across the path covered in dappled sunlight. "Well, well," breathed softly, "what have we here? More whispers?"

General Discussion / Still a heartbeat away...« on: July 17, 2018, 11:26:43 pm »
As I surf around the various video games, I consistently grow nostalgic for the worlds that defined me as an RP player. It is the world, not the game medium, that engaged me. The fellow players, the evolving world lore, the sense of belonging, that drew me in.
I am thankful that these forums still exist, as just a few other persistent NWN worlds still do, so that I may occasionally drop by. With each login of another game and world, it is still compared to the rich entertainment that past communities produced. I still hold out hope... hold my breath... for a platform that may reunite our collective worldly imagination. Until then, my heart felt thanks to all those that influenced and contributed to my own virtual stories. May the dragons continue to whisper. 3
General Discussion / Ahoy! Any RPers in other games these days?« on: July 27, 2017, 10:36:15 pm »
Funny how a great server and community sticks in the mind... magical!I'm @PenNPopper over on Albion Online. Still looking for that "fix" of adrenaline rush RP. Not sure if Albion will work out but it has some of the game mechanics I like from NWN.Best wishes to everyone!

General Discussion / LFG - amethyst and mining« on: April 03, 2012, 02:20:31 pm »
Dubbel needs more amethyst dust since burning through his entire supply or restore potions before dying at the bottom of the Silkwood spider cave. Anyone need silver or coal? He can mine and carry the heavy stuff, even smelting the silver trivial (if I recall).

General Discussion / Big thanks Chazzler!« on: March 28, 2012, 07:09:34 pm »
Wanted to give some thanks to Chazzler. All of his PCs, no matter their level, are always consistently willing to help out the lonely solo wanderers of the world. Whether it's offering guidance on free portals, switching PCs to make a needed gear sale, or just lobbing a potion into the battle, you can't go wrong with "partying" with Chazzler.

Rumour Has It / A sweet smoke drifts over North Point« on: March 27, 2012, 06:19:00 pm »
The crisp air of North Point swirls with fat snowflakes and a new sweet smell. Although it has a certain burnt taint, the definitive tartness of pecan and blueberry pie wafts along the spiraling eddies of snow. The squirrels don't seem to mind the burn discards, and the few passable turnovers end up offered to those in need in Dalanthar and north at the Crossroads. The tiny server's normally green outfit is splattered with blueberry stains, though her bright smile remains unyielding in its display.

General Discussion / WLs, get out there!« on: March 22, 2012, 06:49:37 pm »
After sending a few tells to PCs of players that are WLs, I thought it might be time to stir the pot a bit.
You do know that you're WLs, right? World. Leaders. It would be better to apologize for being over-leaderly, don't you think? Even the most mundane tale takes on legs when the town criers begin to tell it. "A Xeenite has been overheard asking about sources of hops... what has the world come to!?" There are only a small handful of players actually playing, don't be shy about *bonking* them with your wands for RP you had as other personae. Really, WLs you need to encourage the type of play that epitomizes Layonara. No one is going to scold you, I'm sure, for giving props to players and their PCs. Heck, bonk everyone you see online. I, for one, think the RP is fantastic these days. Maybe it's just easier to know everyone's story when there are only a couple score PCs. In any case, levels don't matter on Layonara so double bonk us! 9
Rumour Has It / Center's Bustling Market« on: March 22, 2012, 05:54:34 pm »
Center's modest market, really just a few tents and stick shelters, have seen a marked increase in popularity in recent days. Vendors from other townships have even begun hawking their goods. Times of need do indeed drive the industrious to innovation! In addition to the general goods vendors, a modestly stocked food chest remains near Prunilla's shrine. A richer selection is also available to those in need just across the path.
Through out all the hustle and bustle, the town crier continues with his woefully out of date tales. 10
Rumour Has It / Halfgiant at the Crossroads« on: March 19, 2012, 03:45:25 pm »
A halfgiant, familiar to the travellers through Dalanthar, is once again a common sight at the crossroads to the North. Although not a big talker, it is clear from his grunts and willingness to display a pair of battle-worn axes that he has lack of small talk is made up for with a willingness for action.
((OOC My XP gathering halfgiant is in need of company North of Dalanthar. Since I despise (despise!) grinding for XP, he is only willing to travel places that garner kills of at least 250xp each kill. For him that means the bandit village or tougher. Drop me a tell any time you see me online and I'll switch over to Dubbel and we'll go on a rampage in the mountains (or elsewhere). He follows Mist and relishes the power of the storm. It is pointless to expect to succeed in wave after wave of enemies surging over you. His cry of "Thunder!" will likely be the last thing you hear before the entire party is swept under the crashing waves. You feel lucky against the Soul Mother today? Then let's go for a swim! Roleplaying / The Misfit Brigade« on: March 18, 2012, 11:33:13 am »
Here's the idea I came up with during my vacation. It's based partly on some perma-death servers from the past, as well as mixafix's suggestion about level range.
The Concept The world is rife with uncertainty and unrest. The common folk are struggling for their very survival on a day-to-day basis. With resources scarce, some are offering up the only commodity they have, themselves. Forced into situations outside the norm, some of them discover a tenuous link to the heros of lore. Some succeed in this new life, many more fail and return to more mundane lives. An unknown group, powerful and well-funded, begins to take advantage of the situation. They begin gathering these misfit commoners into a cohesive group, imposing strict, some would say military, order. The result is a small fighting force, right now but a seed but with the potential for powerful growth. What will this growth result in? Who is orchestrating the dance of this force? Good or evil, helpful or power hungry? The Rules
To establish a framework that fosters adventure with an emphasis on RP and character growth, rather than levels. 12
Rumour Has It / Bears in the moonlight« on: March 07, 2012, 04:19:43 pm »
Early one dawn, before the farmers awoke and after the drunkards are asleep, a rumbling may have been heard through Center by those that were light sleepers. A peek out the tent flap or shuttered window would have shown six bear lumbering from North to South, the full moon shining on their coats. Imagined perhaps. Best go back to sleep.

Rumour Has It / Prunilla's Bountiful Harvest« on: February 16, 2012, 05:48:53 pm »
Travelers may begin noticing second-hand chests set up in the poorer sections of Mistone's cities and villages. Sometimes a local citizen stands by the chest, offering passerby a free meal or a mild elixir of healing. In other smaller villages, the chest sits unattended.
The contents of the chest most often is fresh baked bread with perhaps some smoked fish or bottles of juice. In all, though, a small parchment placard rests within adorned with a pressed and dried clover. (Very careful inspection might reveal tiny fingerprints from the creator embossed in the glue holding the clover.) General Discussion / Lower levels traveling with higher... do it!« on: February 14, 2012, 06:48:19 pm »
My thanks to 'mixafix' for running point on a brief trip to Krashin. The xp for Honeybee was modest, but significant to a 6th level PC. We did not go deep into the caverns, but instead collected a few gems of that were ICly important to her and then retreated back to Mistone.
On several other occasions, Honeybee has accompanied much higher level PCs on their ho-hum gathering of CNR ingredients; she usually averages 1xp on these trips per kill. Significant not for the xp but instead for the "rp currency." Thankfully she's a cleric of Prunilla where, "Their objective is not truly to cleave through hordes of evildoers, but instead to annoy and distract until the stronger can deal with the threats." Thank goodness (and pie!) for the stronger! The following users thanked this post: lonnarin, Chazzler, Serissa, Lance Stargazer, davidhoff, willhoff, Pandapuff7

Layonara Server / Areas I'd like to see again as a PC...« on: February 13, 2012, 07:03:25 pm »
There are several areas that I recall visiting once, or perhaps twice, that I'd really like to see again. Do you have any favorites that feel almost like personal quests to reach them?
1. The Great Tree - My PC Bumblebee visited there just once on one of the few quest events I ever attended. It made a profound impression in his character development, and I've always wanted to go back. 2. The "Grove" - I really like NWN worlds where the players get to make their mark. The grove is like a who's-who of PCs that I OOC always looked up to. 3. Way Down There - I honestly have no idea where this place is OOCly. I managed to hook up with a couple of the Freelancers as they began a huge dungeon crawl. It was way into the wee hours of the morning, when I could barely keep my eyes open, that we reached the "boss" at the bottom. I died in that final encounter, as I recall, which was a fitting end to the epic trek. 4. Belinara - Having never had a PC reach 20th, Belinara was always outside of my "level range" (back when there was such a thing). It is a mythical unknown land where, unlike Mistone, if you dropped me down in the middle of it I would have no idea how to find my way to safety. 16
Rumour Has It / Falcons outside Center« on: February 13, 2012, 04:32:57 pm »
The small figure of Honeybee hops up onto the falconer's booth counter in Center, a worried look on her face.
"There are birds circling just North of here," she says excitedly. "Falcons!" Looking to the booth minder expectantly, "Do you think they're yours?" 17
Rumour Has It / Happenings around Center...« on: February 12, 2012, 04:53:36 pm »
The tiny lass in green, known as Honeybee to any that ask, has been heard inquiring of the many "adventurers" not only about the famine and animals illnesses, but also about aid for the local folk. Although her modest attempt at helping travelers with food is bearing fruit, in the way of donations, she wonders if there is not more that can be done for the community. Recently she seems fixated on blessing gems with Prunilla's graces in order to assist the working folk, since they have to toil in the fields that much longer with the lower yields.

Rumour Has It / *letter posted in Hempstead*« on: February 09, 2012, 03:51:04 pm »
Captain Trent ~
It has come to our attention that the animals and crops are unwell. We are asking you, as captain of the guards, to help us organize assistance to the people. If you would seek out myself, Honeybee, or Cyrus Whisperwind, we would be most grateful. The Druidess of the Forest of Fog suggested we seek "official" assistance. ~ Honeybee 19

Layonara Server / Continued thanks for player tools« on: February 06, 2012, 06:03:57 pm »
I continue to be impressed by the usefulness of the player tools available here on Layonara. Specifically, the Quest Creation Scroll and the blank parchments. If you want to see an example of them put to use, just jump to Center on Mistone and check out the chest and NPC.
I'm happy any time to assist should you want to use them yourselves in-game. Examining the quill or question creation scroll gives very thorough explanations. I suggest trying them yourself in some out-of-the-way corner of the world to get the hang of things. Thanks again to the creative server team! |
