General Discussion / Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand« on: February 25, 2011, 08:32:45 am »
As some of you might have heard you might have heard of the Earthquakes that have hit Christchurch.
Just to let you know that I am safe, I am in Wellington so no injuries here. However Christchurch earthquakes have been really bad to the city. To date there are 100 or so casualties including some two young 6-7 month babies. The city buildings are very badly damaged. Christchurch is experiencing aftershocks. I have three videos that you may watch if you are wanting to find out whats going on (combined an hour in total of footage): YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake Special: 60 Minutes NZ - How it Unfolded - Part 1 YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake 2011 - widespread damage, multiple victims and many unaccounted for YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake Special: 60 Minutes NZ - The Saddest Story - Part 2 Our international friends from USA/Australia/Japan have brought along search and rescue teams and helped out tremendously. I just thought you might like to know whats going on in more detail just in case you saw on the news there. Layonara Server / WDE: Postponed. "It ain't half hot mum"« on: October 23, 2010, 02:07:58 am »
I apologise for the late postponement. I thought that I could run it today, but so far I am feel absolutely shattered and don't think that I could run it at such a time.
I will definitely run it at a later time, and hopefully we can have fun again. I do apologise about the fun that I may have disrupted. But at the state I am in at the moment, I don't think that I can do it. My apologies.... 8

Most of my quest time starts in the pm (I like my sleep ). I have amended it...But if this is not enough time I can defer it so that it can be planned appropriately. My apologies. The following users thanked this post: Black Cat

My apologies for tonight's quest. I zm going to have to cancel tonight's game. Because of my graphics card. My graphics card has being plaguing me for a while now and it has decided to die on me last week. I have ordered a new one but it has not arrived yet.
Again my sincere apologies. Once my graphics card is ready I'll be back in full force. Thankjs for understanding. 10

General Discussion / Guess who is back?« on: March 11, 2008, 05:33:31 am »
Well for the last few weeks I have been making the move to Wellington. Life has been a bit hectic and things are settling down as I get into the swing of things.
I'll be back as a GM and my characters shortly, moreso in the weekends than the weekdays. But I look forward to coming back. There are two Yankee folks at work, one is from Seattle and the other is from Texas so they do constantly remind me of the Layonara community for the most part. 14

Roleplaying / Level of Roleplay and perhaps some suggestions« on: November 02, 2007, 11:35:47 am »
Coming from a DM point of view and from more recently a player's point of view, I have seen the level of Roleplay for most people in the community improve compared to a while ago whether it is from adventuring RP to just some people sitting in small pockets Roleplaying. To me that is refreshing.
Some recommendations to enhance the immersion. When emoting something instead of saying something like "raises an eyebrow as if to say that he is not happy with you because you did x" cut the emote back to "raises an eyebrow angrily". If the person asks what it was for, perhaps get them to do roll a check and give them relevant info from that. I have found that giving a check and basing my character response off that check makes the game more interesting. Mind you this is not to say that I make every single emote there is a dice check, but at key moments it does add something interesting to the mix of things. Apart from that, well done on this. I always watch out when I am out there, and love to see RP happening. 16
General Discussion / A post to the community regarding DM encounters« on: June 21, 2007, 05:02:45 pm »
Hello all,
Please note that this post is the opinion of me alone and does not represent what others on the team. This post is just to clarify something that I have noted while I have been on as GM especially when I have been providing custom encounters to the party. I would like to state that to me being a DM means providing an entertainment for players. This is either by quests or providing dynamic encounters through challenge. I don’t have an issue of people requesting a Soul Strand. Nor do I have a problem with people thinking that "perhaps this encounter has unfair". That is in your player’s right to make a request or to have thoughts like that. What I have a problem with is when players have the mindset that because they have faced a losing situation or your character has died that the DM is out to punish them. I hear things like "What did we do wrong?" "Oh we must have got someone out there angry". For me I would normally never use spawns or even overpowered spawns to police a situation or because I am angry at the players. Instead you are going to receive a tell saying that we need to have a little chat. Getting a GMs attention for 20 minutes filled with creatures encounters and mayhem or more at a time is a privilege and not a punishment. It is sad to see that the playerbase view the DMs in this way. I want to say that as far as I am concerned, getting a custom (harder) encounter from me is because I want to spice up an experience or because I feel happy of what is happening in regard to RP. You will also find that the encounter will be suited in for your tastes. If you are at the inn, during a player event, you aren't going to see monsters instead perhaps you are going to talk to the bartender or the waitresses or whoever...to make the experience better. That is also why after each encounter where you are safe I will spawn in just to let you know that I hope everyone had fun *regardless* of the outcome and that is because I did it for your enjoyment. There are however times when we as DMs spawn things to keep things in the Lore of the World. But in those circumstances I will notify you about that too. Roleplaying / Creature interactions« on: May 05, 2007, 02:31:10 am »
I would like to tell a story that I totally made up. I use it to hopefully make a point about monster interaction.
Quote Our story starts in Middle Earth, inside the Prancing Pony. It’s a beautiful evening Berham the innkeep is doing very good business. Some of the Fellowship are there…Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli. They are all having a nice drink. If anyone can find any sense in that fictious story please explain it to me. I am hoping I get a few snickers, but in all seriousness I do see this going on in Layonara. I will have a gander and say that for some people they want to stay friendly IC to everybody because that way everyone will treat them as a friend OOC and IC. There is nothing wrong showing hostility towards a monstrous races (in character of course). It helps with the immersion of the world and make for some interesting RolePlay. Please note though…this is no excuse to make personal attacks OOC to somebody. Everything stays IC. Also this also doesn’t mean that things can’t change in terms of the creature’s reputation. But in general, if the creature is not well known, and it looks scary...and monstrous. I think it should be Roleplayed as such. 18
Roleplaying / Please don't be offended OOC by IC personalities/behaviours« on: May 03, 2007, 10:01:22 am »
I thought I would like to highlight something in the scheme of things. That is this is primarily a Roleplay Server and as such there are a diverse number of personalities here ranging from the normal personalities to the quirky. There are times when there are good alignments and evil alignments.
As such, not everyone is going to be normal...not everyone is going to be good and be helpful or be polite. What I am concerned about is that some people do take this personally and such that their characters reactions or the overall party may react OOCly, sometimes in a negative way and against what their characters are about...that the player has to change their character whole demeanour just so that they can join within groups or meet with new people. I think this is very sad, because it is losing part of what Layonara is about. That we lose the interaction between different types of personalities. I enjoy now roleplaying with people with quirky/nasty personalities because it means I can fully RP my character how they would act and enjoy the reactions. Now granted. . .there are going to be cases where where there maybe some characters that do reject the said person...and that maybe reflected IC. I accept that. I guess what I am trying to say is that when playing your character...don’t take offence when a character does act like that...and act as what your character would respond rather than what you will respond. General Discussion / Emotes« on: April 19, 2007, 09:24:05 pm »
I remember when I first came onto Layonara there was the emotes such as "point" "fold" and "curl", where the characters would do something
Since the update they have mysteriously disappeared. Is this hardcoded into the NWN patch...? Would be nice to have them back in game if at all possible. The following users thanked this post: Lynn1020

Introduce Yourself / The Tan« on: March 27, 2007, 06:31:35 am »
Hi everybody, I thought that I would jump on the bandwagon and introduce myself. Unlike the majority of who mainly come from Australia, US or Canada, I come from across the Tasman, New Zealand. I live in the North Island of New Zealand, in what you might consider to be a relatively small city of Hamilton. My name is Wei-Yen Tan pronounced “Way Yen”
I enjoy a range of activities especially travelling. One day I hope to visit Canada to see one of my friends who immigrated there a while ago. I am working on getting him into Layonara as well. I discovered Layonara at the end of June and I have not looked back. Layonara was my first experience of an online world, and before I started playing I did not think highly of the MMORPG genre thinking that they might have the poor standards of role-play that are exhibited in other games such as most areas of World of Warcraft. I was pleasantly surprised that Layonara is not that at all. Although, there is a lesser population than what other MMORPG have, it is instead replaced by an experience that is rich in nature and immersive. I have since joined the team and having done so, come to appreciate more the effort that Leanthar and his team put into this world. I have made a great lot of friends in Layonara and hope that we do hope to meet each other in-game eventually. You can find a picture of me below. Post any questions and I will try to answer them as best I can.
