Introduce Yourself / Greetings from an ancient time
« on: February 01, 2014, 10:03:31 pm »
Or should I say, circa 2004 - 2007. It's nice to see my character and those he traveled with still remembered in the lore books of old. Part of the many reasons Layonara was (and I'm sure still is) a great place to RP. Perhaps someday I'll have some time to play. But until then, I thought I'd check in and say hello.(Michaelis Draego, Champion of Toran)

General Discussion / No Internet (probably for a while)
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:28:25 am »
I think my computer may have breathed it's last - going to see if I can salvage it, but it's already very old and it may be high time I get a new one as I'm having numerous problems with it.

This is just a quick message stating that I do not have home internet access for the time being and I do not know how long it will last.  Could last weeks, could be days. We will just have to see.

This means no layonara (logging into the game at least) for however long that lasts.  I will still however, have forum access while I'm at work so I won't be horribly out of touch.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Banker or Ship Capt. in Huangjin
« on: August 22, 2007, 09:15:10 pm »
I can just picture steam coming out of the ears out of all the bug fixers from this final update so I'm going to cautiously ask this one.

Unless I missed it, barring the more dangerous routes, the only way to and from Huangjin is via Hlint Portal.  A small issue with this is the possibility of PCs getting stranded as they have forgotten to bring enough gold to get back *looks around embarrassed*. Could we put a banker or even better a ship captain that would sail to Lor or some appropriate city? There is currently no dockkeepr or ship captain, despite the dock and ship.

Not sure if it's possible to grab a banker or ship captain and dock keep that already have the scripting in place and plop them in there somewhere.  The bank keeper could be standing in one of those inside/outside buildings - it is a lovely city after all ;)

Not sure also if this would require another update - in which case, no worries as that isn't going to happen.

Fixed Bugs / Weather system - Citadel of Toran
« on: August 20, 2007, 10:53:41 pm »
Any chance we could turn off the weather effects like rain in the Citadel of Toran area? Maybe keep the area clear.  It's a bit humerous to see it raining "inside" the keep.

Hall of Heroes and Heroines / The First and the Redeemer
« on: April 28, 2007, 10:34:58 pm »
Words are written within a large book found in all places of Toran.  Where the book is placed is dependent upon the location.  The book is accessible to all who would dwell within these places or dare enter.  The words are written in a rather cryptic manner.  Broken text, but not so old in years.  Those of good lore would guess it was written just after the War with Bloodstone.  The writing is of deeds recorded and certain parts seem to be missing.  There is no author, except the words "scribed as it was recorded and told to one," written upon the bottom of the text.

A harsh reputation toward the Toranite church was often the prevalent attitude among many who hated the protectors of this world.  Too many misunderstood.  But every so often, one would come to reinforce that reputation, be it through desire of power, greed, prestige, or other.  These dark men and women wittingly partake in activities for the purpose of smearing those that serve only the benefit of humanoid kind.  Others are misguided and think they do the will of good.  But deception is an ever vigilant force that continues to seek and seduce the young, the reckless, the new. And sometimes even the old.

I was a child often misjudged for a cold warrior.  I am he.  I am the shield for these people.  I am the one who is hated because I protect this world.  They are me.  Most will never love me.  Only those.  Only those I choose.  Only those that see.  Why should they love me? I am a thorn to them.  I know I am a rose, but to them I am a thorn.  The place is corrupt.  The world should be clensed.  Come back to me.  Protect that child.  Protect that girl.  Protect the old.  Why do you not? Why do these children suffer? Why this pain? I took an interest in this world.  They are mine because they protect.  They are mine because they serve the truth. And I am theirs for it.

Long ago, a man they called the First came during an age long since forgotten except by those who serve the Great Leader.  Tall and fair he was.  His tale became one of heroism, tragedy, betrayal, and in the end, redemption by another.  A man of similar virtue and stature.

Few know the early history of this first man, but the effect he would have on the faithful was extraordinary.

What is strength? Why do they know me? Why do they follow me? Who am I? What should I be? What is the truth? What is the truth of this world? Why do they do this? He shall be strong.  I shall make him strong.  Not for me.  Never for me.  Never.

A valiant man he became.  A knight, chivalrous and true.  Strong in arms, soft in heart.

The laws were written.  The oath was made.  Those that succeeded the First held to that oath.  The faith prospered.  The world became better than when the beasts had ruled.

Then the era ended.  Time went by.  Wars were fought.  Land destroyed. Land reformed.  The Dragon Slayer came and went.  The bane of man he was.  Time went by.

The First and the Redeemer served the same ideals until the Lord of Spiders succeeded in breaching the sleep of the former.  One fell, the other took his place.  Two men from different eras would soon collide.  Not in friendship.  But in war.  A war of two alone.  The greater and the lesser with the lesser becoming the greater.

The church was corrupt.  The church was being run by matters of law and law alone.  A chasm formed between two sides.  One of law.  One of compassion.  And he.  He is gone, betrayed or so he thought.  The dark he serves now.  Once the greatest knight this world had ever seen.

Why? Why did you leave me? Why? I will never serve you! You send him? Who is he? Who? Your paladins are fools.  They are blind and useless.  They are weak.  This man is the same.  I will crush him.  The time of that church is over.  I will crush you.  I will crush all that you protect.  You betrayed me.  You let him take me.  Why? The light I see is forever weak.  Never will I serve it again.  They looked for me. But they were too weak to stop it and you shall suffer for it.  They shall all suffer.  They shall all die.

Who is he? I will destroy this place.  But of them.  Who is he? They do not know me.  They think they do, but they don't.  Will they ever? Only one knows me.  Only one.  And he I hate.

The city was taken.  The church, our beloved building was crumbling.  It was in decay after the great wars.  And now he comes.  The one who once was our greatest.  Who showed us the way.  Who gave us the laws of the Great Leader.  But he comes not as our friend.  Once the light of our church and now our greatest enemy.

The city was in chaos.  The Redeemer was sent.  One who had fought the Slayer.  One who had fallen before.  One who had risen again.  One revered.

Rescue the Ankh and free the people he was told.  From what? From him, the First, now dark and corrupt.  He did that.  He suffered for it.  He was defiant.  He would not let them suffer.  They fought.  The two.  In rage the First destroyed the temple to ash. Nothing was left. He walked away.  The First had left.

The Redeemer was put on trial by one of the dark men.  The high Justicer he was.  The Snake.  He hated the Redeemer and wished punishment.  But he was not the judge of this proceeding.  He who judged asked the Redeemer to choose his own punishment.  His own fate.  He chose to seek out the First.

To the Mountain of Giants on Belinara he traveled with a large group.  Those of his choosing, those loyal to him.  He did not ask nor expect them to follow.  But they came and he led them.

Turned away these others were as the party reached the dark labyrinth where the First resided.  The Redeemer walked alone.  Alone into the dark.

The throne was high upon which the First sat.  It was a mighty throne and around him spiders and other creatures more vile surrounded him in obedience.  He mocked the knight clad in gold.  He mocked the Ankh he wore.  He mocked the face, just like his once was.

Why do you believe Michaelis? Why do you believe? Worship him again? Never.

He was sent.  By them? No.  By he, the Greatest.  The protector.  A messenger of a god.

It's time Navarre.  It's time to come home.

Fetch me him.  Fetch me him who is supposed to be our lord.  Show me him! Can you? Let me curse his face.

You are a fool.  He is the strong.  He is the protector.  I am his messenger.  The darkness is folly.  This darkness! This path! This way! He never abandoned you.  He is here.  Even down here he can hear you.  Even down here he comes.  He comes for you.  Call to him!

The power of anger.  The power I have.  I could kill you now.  Is this what you want? Is this what you wish?

Here no one knows what happened except the two.  Days felt like hours.

The black sky was pierced for a moment.  The mountains shook.  The giants ran.  The loyal party outside of the dwelling was forced to flee despite their wishes.  Despite their loyalty to the man in gold.

No one knows what happened except the two.

The First, once black now gold again, walked out with the Redeemer.

What have I done? What have I done! How could I have?

Solemn was the walk.  Both were quiet.  What words were exchanged between the two are unknown for he would not tell me.  He would not tell me what they spoke about. The accounts here are by other witnesses. He would tell me little.

His body was judged by those who serve only law.  For the crimes he committed many praised his end, as his judgment was death by hanging.  The Redeemer wept.  The rift between two gods, who were once allied, began.  The Snake and all others that served only law were cast out of the Toranite church.

I want nothing to do with this.  This isn't the way.  Where are you? I feel you, but you show yourself not.  Is he home? Where is he? I shall rebuild.  We shall rebuild.

New will come.  New will always come.  Eager.  Such bravado.  Such courage.  Such talk.  Do they know the way? The war is over.  The new one begins. The long death comes.  Nothing but the long death.  The sky is black.  The world is ash.  They come.  They come again after the war.  The new one begins.  He will be strong.  I shall make him strong.  Not for me.  Never for me.  Never.

Right....

Normally wouldn't bother, but it's the easiest way to get the message out to those I've been working with on some things.  I'll be someplace warm and exotic with questionable internet access for the next 11 days (till the 24th). And yep, they do have internet where I'm going, but no, I'll probably not be able to check the forums for that time.  See you when I get back! Have fun all!

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Divine Wrath
« on: July 11, 2006, 02:47:59 pm »
I personally feel that the most difficult class to RP is not a paladin nor a druid, noreven an "evil aligned" PC, but rather the deity champion. It's something that I tend to struggle alot with, trying to define how my character would react to certain situations and temptations, some of which I'll freely admit that I've been less than successful with.
Still, the Champions according to the handbook are the deity’s elite. I still don't believe their PrC reflects that. Yes, this is a powerbuild request, so first and foremost please forgive me here. The advantage of a Champion PrC (that I'm aware of) are the saving throws, bonus feats, and the ability "Divine Wrath" among other non-stackable Paladin like feats such as Lay on Hands.
I'm sure there are ways to "compliment" a Champion/Paladin Class, and a Champion/Fighter class depending upon the level arrangement could be quite a build. Still, particularly with paladins, the Champion class does nothing but weaken theoverall strength of the character builddespite the fact that you may freely multiclass between the two. The basic "power-rules" of multiclassing of course apply here - i.e. if you have enough levels of a base class, getting the best of what that class has to offer, then perhaps a suitable strength build could be conceived with choosing a compliment class.
The level 5 Champion PrC ability "Divine Wrath" is a nifty spell, yet unfortunately it lasts only as long as your charisma modifier. Now that's no big issue as the paladin feats "Divine Shield" and "Divine Might" are similiar in duration. The issue to me is that Divine Might can only be used once per day. You're dealing with an ability that, even with high charisma, will last maybe a minute at most, and once it's gone, it's gone.
I'm wondering of the possibility of changing this ability to resemble "Divine Might and Shield" in the sense that you can use this ability as many times a day as you have "Turn Undead". "Divine Wrath" is an emotion - a divine emotion and while I guess you can argue that you would be "spent" after becoming "divinely angry" I'd still think you could muster up enough emotion to do it more than once. I suppose this would leave a non-paladin/cleric base-class PC out of luck however unless "Turn-Undead" or "Extra-Turning"couldbe selected as a Champion feat.
I'm not sure whether this is something that's "hard coded" via Bioware, as I don't understand what would be and what wouldn't. I would also imagine that given that a few members of the layonara community have brought theirdisappointment up regarding this particular PrC from time to time, this sort of issue has been at least discussed among the team. Keep in mind I'm fully aware of the Layonara team's incredibly full plate and whether this would be more work than it's worth, or perhaps it's not worth it. There may also be balancing issues here. Not sure as I'm certainly no expert. So, what are the chances of modifying this?
If not, thanks for at least answering me on this one!

Enjoy the day with the family.

Development Related Topics (DRT) / Minor tedious thought
« on: June 25, 2006, 07:57:11 pm »
Given the darkness that is to be RP'd from the final battles, perhaps alter the outdoor areas of the server to all have "thunderstorm" stormy skies.
Just a thought *shrugs* but given the vast amount of areas, coupled with the overworked GM team seems tedious. Still, food for thought. Oh and perhaps alter the weather to make it rain more often and snow more often. Oh but then we get into coding issues. A pain there too!

General Discussion / DM needed
« on: June 04, 2006, 05:22:04 pm »
Wondering if I could grab a DM to do a quick one on one RP session with Michaelis on central regarding some facts he recently found out and given his nature are very dear to him and important. Not looking for any exp, just some RP. If so thanks. If not, no biggie. I'll be logged on tonight for another 2-3 hours, but will be on during the week as well.

May have been Ed or another that brought a similiar thing up but still, even after doing a search, I'm inclined to ask....is it at all possible to PM multiple players at once - like cc them. It gets old cutting and pasting the same message a dozen times or so. It'd be nice to do a group PM every so often.
This is more website related as oppoed to in-game related, and I'm often left to wonder that such an idea, being so simple, was not brought up by other players. But then again, it may be difficult to implement.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Pranzis Temple music change
« on: April 02, 2006, 06:23:26 pm »
Don't suppose we could get the music in the Pranzis Temple of Toran changed from something a little bit too "general store-ish" to something more "Toran temple-ish". Maybe the same music that's played in the Citadel of Rofirein or along those lines such as:
"Good Temple 2" or "Layo_temple" or no sound with "monestary interior" cranked up in the background.

Fixed Bugs / Unidentified Glowworms - Broken Forest
« on: January 18, 2006, 07:13:21 am »
Through my perusings in the broken forest, upon killing the undead there I've picked up unidentified glowworms - every one I've picked up (which has been a considerable amount) is unidentified. How do I know they're glowworms? Well the item descriptionwhen you examinethem reveals what they are. Not sure these objects are supposed to be unidentified but if they are, the item description should reflect that.

General Discussion / Thank you Regnus (DM)

Well, thought I'd be the first to post a quick thanks to one of the new DM's.  I asked for a holdable book for one of my PC's.  Instead of just plopping it into my inventory Regnus did a nice little quick spiel and RP'd me recieving the book - it was fun, great RP, and added some nice flavor to recieving a mundane item - which Regnus even made it - non-mundane.  So props to one of the new members of the layonara team!

Development Journals and Discussion / Calen'liel Goldleaf's Journal
« on: December 13, 2005, 03:14:00 pm »
(The journal begins before he arrived in Hlint - as posted here the original character submission biography which will serve as a prelude to his future writings).
Biography:
Calen'liel Goldleaf, born in the year 1292, son of Cirventhore and Elania, the heads of the house of Goldleaf located in the heart of Voltrex and named Calen'liel by Haldamir, a high cleric of Aeridin at the first dawn of Calen's life during the naming ceremony. The name marks the bond between Calen's great-grandfather Caldan of the house of Morningbreak with Len'liel of the house of Sunstrider, which lead to the birth of the house of Goldleaf. Calen's people are worshippers of Aeridin, most wizards, clerics, and rangers, but there are a few - rare- soldiers marked by Aeridin, chosen in a warriors life to be his paladins. Calen's society holds these paladins in high regard - his society particularly values law, tradition, and the preservation of beliefs.     Calen grew up as many of his race did. He had loving parents who cared for him greatly and raised him in the traditional beliefs of elvin lore. His appearance matched that of his people who all possessed bronzed skin and blond sun-colored "golden" hair. These"sun elves" as they were often called were a beautiful enchanting race, regarded as such even by other elves.      However, his people cared little for interaction with the other elves on Voltrex and little for the rest of the world as well - they were indifferent to the matters of men, dwarves, and even other elves and as such many of his kind were unaware of what the world was facing. Despite this drawback, Calen's people valued intelligence and while his people predominantly spoke elvin or high elvin, though rare, they spoke common when needed. After all, some few have interacted with an "outsider" here or there.         Calen was encouraged by some in his family to pursue magic. His sister Ilmaeila was a just beginning her journey in the arcane arts, so toowere other members of his family. He however became more fond of melee and archery and focused his time on that - something his family grew to accept. Another tradition, which Calen was raised to learn was the teaching of Aeridin, the patron god of his people. As Calen read through these teachings he became more and more engulfed in them, his dedication growing. He dedicated himself for a few decades in constant prayer asking what Aeridin's will was for his life. His fervor grew finding these teachings truthful and the way he felt life should be -in fact it grew to such an extent that he had Haldamir mark on him a tattoo of a golden sun upon his own chest. His family approved of this fervor, his mother seeing the passion in the young elf led him to Nar'uel, friend of the family and a paladin of Aeridin.        Nar taught him further for a while, the teachings of Aeridin as well as basic swordsmanship, archery, and even showed him through the grace of Aeridin how to heal, resist disease, and even smite foul creatures of the dark, which Nar was often called to do. Yet through it all he made Calen memorize the code which Nar himself lives by - something Nar made sure was engrained in Calen's heart:  1 - Devote yourself to life.  If there is any way to prevent death and preserve life, it is the way of Aeridin.  2 - Judge not others.  By judging others, you yourself are judged.  3 - Honor your words and live by them.  Your oath is as true as these laws.  4 - Help others live a full life, and harm not the harmless.  5 - Heal the sick and wounded who ask for assistance.  Those whom you have deathlessly defeated remain your responsibility.  6 - Abandon all greed, hatred, and evil feelings towards others.  These close the mind to truth and engender a hatred for life.  7 - Pay homage to life by giving freely and allowing others the same.  8 - Respect those who would teach you and ask nothing of those you teach.  9 - Respect the laws of mortals, but remember always that your fealty is to the laws of Aeridin.  10 - Pledge your life, soul, and word to Aeridin.  Never should you worship another and never should your faith falter.  11- Not pride, but humility. Not greed, but generousity. Not envy, butlove. Not wrath, but kindness. Not lust, but temperance. Not gluttony, but moderation. Not sloth, but zeal. Never evil, always good. Bringlight to the darkness and you shall always be counted among Aeridin'sblessed.  12 - Wear the symbol of Aeridin with honor, love, and devotion.  Never rape, steal, or murder.  13 - Take only what you need, and give only what you can.           Calen continued his studies with Nar eventually mastering the very basics of melee and the healing arts. Nar told him that his training was that of a paladin. When asked by Calen (who really was quite shocked that he'd be a paladin or was training for it) about Nar choosing him as a paladin Nar rebuked him slightly saying he was not the one who choses, Aeridin was. He told Calen that to be one of Aeridin's blessed would mean a difficult life of ardous sacrifice in the name of the life-giver. Calen nodded and accepted that responsibility.      During the latter part of this training the young Calen began to have dreams (or nightmares rather) of a dragon calling him west to lands he's never even heard of. Mistone? Hlint? He ignored these dreams for it was a terrible offense to leave his people for some nonsense spoken by a fictional dragon. The words however rang in his head - they never left and it seemed his mind began to become preoccupied with them.
"A war was at hand. A great battle between the good of the world and aforce of evil so horrible, his help was needed. Unless the tide turnsthe world will fall into a terrible darkness the likes of which has never been seen".
Some ancient human or a being that used to be human named Sinthar Bloodstone was threatening the world. He dwelled on these dreams privately for a while.        Eventually he spoke to his family about these dreams and they dismissed them. They said these were just dreams, nothing more. There were no dragons - why dragons haven't been seen for ages. Something in his heart told him they were wrong - yet worse, looking at the worried expression on his fathers face - like he knew something - all but confirmed Calen's suspicions. Calen's heart told him there was a war, that this Bloodstone did exist.     He became very disturbed, torn inside. Abandon his people? Unthinkable! But something inside of him as strong - as if Aeridin was speaking to him - almost like that. He felt he was being pulled somewhere and he had to find out - find out more about this war, this evil man.     One night he stole away to a small local group of wood elves. Calen was always a bit more open toward other races then most of his people. He spoke to an elf, Eladril whom he had come to know through a few of his walks that Calen liked to take from time to time - about these dreams. The elf nodded gravely and told him about this Bloodstone fellow. Evidently this Eladril who was a very old elf knew the story, the original war of the dragons, the banishment of Bloodstone from what had been passed down to him. Calen suspected his people also knew, but did not admit it out of fear. He was after all taught about the draconic war as seen through the eyes of the elves - all his people were, but much was left out. To his people it seemed, the events of that time became legend, and legend became myth seldom spoken about.     Night after night Calen kept returning to hear Eladril speak. He told Calen about Bloodstone, the west-lands, even the human defeat of some place called Tibum which happened recently. Asked by Calen how he knew of these recent events Eladril in his wisdom remarked "Voltrex is isolated in the eyes of most elfs, but this isolation is only in their minds. Every once and a while a foreigner comes to the wood elf city and speaks about such things."           Calen knew his people would frown upon his leaving to speak about such matters with an outside - most would at least. But sadly, he knew they would do nothing about this war. They would choose not to get involved and risk open war, when open war was already upon them. But he couldnot just leave to find these west-lands. He spoke to Nar in trust one evening:  (in elvin)   Nar:  *he sighed in thought and turning to Calen* You've had these dreams for a while now.  Now you tell me you have spoken to this elf Eladril.  I know this elf *he scratched his chin in though, leaning against a tree, then looking Calen in the eyes* What does your heart tell you Calen'liel?  Calen:  *in his eyes desparation appears*I feel I have to go. My people do nothing! They are stubborn. Aeridin would wish us to fight this evil would he not. It will take away life.I've seen it in my dreams.  Nar:  *he nods sagely, then sighs again* I will tell your family you have left on a mission of Aeridin. A mission I sent you on. You're young Calen, but you have heart - I see that. You've always had heart. Consider this a test, one that if you pass, you will be a paladin of Aeridin, chosen by him. *he sighs a bit*    But... one you may not survive. I will speak to your family about, tell them the truth. They may frown, most elves are not welcome back once they leave the island to head into the world. But I will do what I can to convince them so they will be proud of you. *he places his right hand on Calen's right shoulder - the leaves of the forest ceiling falling on them both*  I am proud of you...brother.  Calen:  *his eyes light up, he's clearly surprised at Nar's words the he smiles and nods*  Thank you my friend.  I will leave for Saida at the first of dawn...I will board a boat and sail to Hlint.  Nar:  Hlint?  Calen:  Some town this dragon of my dreams has called me to.  Nar:  *he nods* Take what you need and no more. Go hurry, you have but a few hours before your mother wakes! I will think of something to tell her.  Calen:  *he nods and runs back to his room, he places some elvin bread, one set of garmets, and a few healing potions into a pack. After strapping on some light leather armor he then picks up a few quivers of arrows, his old long-sword, and a hickory long-bow - then taking one last look at the beautiful land he would be leaving - perhaps to never see again, sighed, and ran towards Saida - once the time arrived.        During his journey to Hlint, before leaving Saida he payed one last visit to Eladril. He asked Eladril to mark on him a tattoo - small golden leaves arranged in a line ornately encircling or weaving around one another like vines - a remembrance of his family. Eladril, respectful and in admiration for the young elf did just that and it was upon Calen's forehead this mark was made.
