The Silver Buckle / A battered barbarian - tavern gossip
« on: April 24, 2007, 12:28:47 pm »
Gossip within the tavern speaks of a battered barbarian who almost crawled in to the tavern so dire were her wounds.

This Krashinite savage was surprisingly well spoken for one of the northern savages, yet her language apparently made several sailors in the bar blush as it was so course and full of swearing.

The barbarian was cursing and cussing everyone she could regarding massive giants on the outskirts of Wolfswood. As she regaled the listeners with  her tale it appears that a single one of these brutes had ripped her limb from limb. Never she said had she fought such beasts with such amazing strength. One blow alone stunned her and left her unable to move.

It was she said with both great anger and great relief that the Lady of the Oceans, Mist had seen fit to return her to this mortal realm.

It was clear that the brute was in deep shock and was obviously unused to failing so in combat, especially so utterly and only to a single combatant.

She warned all that to venture into the woods was doom as she had seen more of these beats about, some in large groups.

A wolfswood ranger entered the tavern and was unable to answer why the way so close to the rangers grove was deadly. He eventually left rather than face her anger.

Layonara Server / Note for Linux NWN users
« on: April 09, 2007, 03:28:55 am »
For those of you who use NWN in a Linux environment, please be be aware that you will need to rename layo_controlV3r2.hak to layo_controlv3r2.hak as Linux is case sensitive.

Now if it were a issue for windows users I would re-release it, but as linux users I know you can cope with what life throws at you

Layonara Server / Version 3-00-4 go live
« on: April 05, 2007, 09:45:37 am »
Ok folks we are now (or about to go) live with the latest release which effects all servers except for the Planes server.

You will all need a new version of the Control Hakpack. This fixes several minor issues, but mainly adds some placeables missed out of Port Hempstead - Crimson Memorial in the last release.

General Discussion / Printing Maps
« on: March 17, 2007, 10:19:05 am »
The maps of Layonara are a fabulous work of art and my hearty thanks to those that have obviously spent a long time on crafting them. :)

The only issue I have is as they were crafted by a delicate hand, printing them out on a black and white printer means a lot of the information is lost as the detail merges into the parchment background.

I was wondering if it would be possible to get hold of a copy of the maps with the parchment layer removed?

I can assure that between my coffee cups and my cats muddy paws it will rapidly achieve that authentic yellowy/brown parchment colour. ;)

Thanks,

Nibor

General Discussion / The Arbiter - A GM demon!
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:39:45 am »
I would just like to say a big thank you to The Arbiter for an utterly immersive, atmospheric and captivating quest. It was a spur of the moment thing but had me absorbed in it from the beginning. Plus it intertwines with another on going quest and will add great flavour to that.

I was well set-up, well thought through with great visuals, nice npc interactions and above all i didn't get a DT. :p

My thanks again to The The Arbiter.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / V3 constructive criticism - Newbies
« on: February 28, 2007, 09:41:18 am »
Firstly let me say how painfully beautiful v3 is.

Having taken my level 16 char around this morning I had a brilliant time.

However I had a new char approved last week and I have made her today. I choose Port Hempstead as a starting location.

Now I am biasing my views on the fact I know Hlint of v2.

1.) As an experienced Layo player I know that Deliar is the god of trade/merchants etc. However for Layo Newbies I would like to see the shops in the temple and the bank moved out of the temple and into vacant buildings - there are plenty in Hempstead to pick from. A Newbie would look for the obvious and we are trying to create that cozy snug feeling.

2.) Hlint has a great collection of Newbie quests that mollycoddle a new PC up to about Level three with the minimum of risk. I can find one quest to do in Hempstead and in all honesty I am not brave enough to try it yet. Can I suggest its time for Master Vale and Master Johan to decided its time for a new location in their lives?

3.) And this may be a silly point, but... Hlint had a nice cozy feel about it. There were always people sitting chatting under the stars, and it was all done in such a way that a newbie felt they could wander up and ask for help. Hempstead doesn't give me that feeling of cozyness, it is far more impressive, but not cudly. I realise at the moment no one is about because they are all off seeing the many wonders in v3

I hope you don't feel i am complaining just to be a troll and miserable. Everything I saw out and about is truly brilliant, and really adds so much more to Layo, its just I feel that pointing out deficiencies that players new to Layonara may have now, will help bring many more friends into our already great community.

General Discussion / Dwarven Beards?
« on: February 26, 2007, 12:29:38 pm »
Do dwarven women have beards in Layo? I know in NWN Dwarven females are beardless (which seems utterly wrong to me).

What is the official line?

I keep an eye cast upon the server status page as i go about my day. And I can't help noticing that the planes server is almost NEVER used. Even when it is there only ever appears to be one or two people on it.

I was therefore curious as to how people would feel if it was destroyed and a new server created to act as an over lap for West & Central - catering for levels 9 to 14 for example.

I realise that for whomever has spent hours toiling on the various areas and scripts on the planes server this is un unsettling question and no one like to see their hard work go to waste, so perhaps the planes module could be run on the quest server when its not needed for questing.

I was just curious as to how everyone felt it.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Master Crafter Items
« on: February 20, 2007, 07:43:49 am »
Here is an idea I have been thinking about for a while now. I call it the Master Crafter idea and it is designed to allow characters to specialise in the crafting of ONE SINGLE item.
In order to make it happen, the PC goes to see the Master Crafter (an NPC), and places the item that they wish to be their unique item in a box. They then, via a conversation get to say what special abilities they want their item to have.     The list of options is based upon a.) The item base type and, b.) The item cost.
For example a ring worth 1,000gp may permit the PC to pick one of the following as his special ability:

  • Listen +1
  • Hide +1
  • Move Silently +1
  • Parry +1
  • Taunt +1
  • Will Save +1
  • Intimidate +1
A ring worth 5,000gp may offer +2 bonuses to the above.
A sword worth 20,000gp may offer the following:

  • +2 fire damage
  • +2 cold damage
  • +2 electrical damage
  • Taunt +6
  • Parry +6
  • Intimidate +6

In order to set an item as his/her specialist item, the PC must have a 100% chance of success when crafting their one particular chosen item based upon their base ability scores (no items or buffs).
From that point on, whenever the PC makes their chosen item it will have their selected bonus added to it.
PCs will have to make a tough decision on what item to select as their one item as it cannot be changed at a later date. Do you go for something that requires a low crafting level, but therefore only get a low master craftsman bonus or do wait and make your chosen item be something really special?
Characters can still craft all other items, but they will be normal items.

General Discussion / Leaving Layo...for Layo?
« on: February 15, 2007, 11:45:01 pm »
Well I was doing my morning waiting for the caffeine to kick in wander through the Neverwinter Vault and came across this - http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=5337

I've known this was under construction for some time, but am pleased to see its release. My heartiest congratulations to the team responsible. Now how do you advise playing it- Single or Multi-player?

And does it occur in Layo as we know and love it or is it a parallel universe Layo?

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Intimidate items
« on: September 28, 2006, 01:26:33 pm »
While there appear to be lots of items that give a wide variety of different bonuses I cant find anything that ups a PC's intimidate skill. Could there be something?

'Helm of the mocking skull' or something that has say a +6 intimidate skill?

General Discussion / Karana CDQ
« on: September 03, 2006, 07:30:16 am »
I would just like to post some thanks:-

Dezza for once again excelling as a GM and coming up with a innovative, original and detailed quest to cover the bare bones I gave. You put some really good suprises in there and kept me guessing all the way.

To Jin, Xan, Sh'anda, Jamesan, Quilus and Berilu (halfling demon of infamy) for being stalwart companions, joining me even after you found out Dezza was running it ( :P ) , happily dieing and being frozen to Popsicles. Without you lot it just wouldn't have been the same. The RP was great and it is always fun when i play with you.

Special thanks to Berliu for being up really late. Timezones suck.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / modifying armours, shields & weapons
« on: July 25, 2006, 01:47:52 am »
When armours, shields & weapons are crafted, they should be able to have their appearance changed once by its creator for automatic success to represent that the crafter can design an item to look like anything he/she wants it to look like.

As a weapon smith it annoys me that I can hammer out a blade (maybe even at a trivial success rate) and then not be able to have the blade look how i want it too. Diversity is after all the spice of life and far too many people walk around with identical longswords as iff they had all been stamped out in the same factory using mass production moulds!

The other option here would be allow crafters to make items by their design. Put a sword or piece of armour in a design copier, with some cloth, and the device gives you 'patterns' that can then be used on a sword, piece of armour etc to sett the current items appearance to that of the pattern. it would mean that guilds could have guild style for the items etc they produce.
