Rumour Has It / A Message [Attention Storold]
« on: January 03, 2009, 01:18:13 pm »
Llane leaves a letter upon the statue of Hempstead, visible from where she had seen Storold about the most at the benches.

The letter is written in a careful, meticulous handwriting.

Secret-keeper,

There's something I recently stumbled upon with my partner Morrowfield that may interest you. It's important, and the sooner I can relay it to you, the better.

Llane

If one phrase would be used to describe me, it would most likely be, "Confused Refugee." I've been struggling with depression and endometriosis for a few years of my life now, the former probably spanning much much longer back (I won't acknowledge that it does- I don't want to know), and I've always had this sort of bleary-eyed wonderment in regarding the world.

My name is Christine. Some call me a cynic, some call me a fool, and most others consider me a typical woman of my generation... That is, I'm spoiled rotten, have trouble expressing myself, and make a lot of trouble... and I can manage to be arrogant and think I'm the best the entire time.

It's pretty awesome if you prefer the delusional.

I came to Layonara around two years back as Kinai Kinsei. This time around, I'm back as Llane S. Anetheron. They don't share any real qualities despite being the same general class sets, and I'm glad for that. It gives all of you a new experience when you roleplay with me. My writing style itself is satirical without humour... rather, I like to mock things without really meaning any harm. It's how I am. Please don't take offense to it... and if it becomes troublesome, just give me a nudge. I have no problems dropping the facade and being my more actual friendly side :) Really, it's just something I do to amuse myself, in the end.

--

As a person, I'm a half Japanese lady-person living in Ohio. Masquerade is my significant other- He wrote his introduction a while back before... and in much better spirits than I in this one ;) We used to play together in Myth Drannor, but after DMing for a while, we ended up losing our energy and our place in the game world and moved on to Layonara. He's a month younger than I, a point I sometimes give him a hard time about, but we're otherwise about the same place in education, personality, and life in general. In our spare time, we oft' PnP DnD together, get on World of Warcraft, watch movies, or do whatever else happens upon our fancy at the time. You'll rarely see one of us without the other.

So that's all. Here's a pic of myself and Milkshake, my lhasa apso, below. I'd post a pic of Masqy and I, but since he didn't in his intro, I'll do the same and pass. It'd do injustice to his name if I went ahead, after all ;)

Ask A Gamemaster / Influencing a Quest
« on: December 04, 2008, 11:02:45 am »
To CDQ or not to CDQ, that is the question...

... And here is mine!

Over the past week or two, I've been brewing up a lot of quest based ideas that could be done in Layonara (or anywhere else, really). What I want to know is, how much can I really suggest to the DMs for them to be done? I don't need my character involved, I don't need to even know of it, but maybe I could suggest a ton and at least watch them run about in and maybe learn about it ICly if I'm lucky.

Basically, I'm afraid that any quest suggesting that may remotely involve my character would be counted as a CDQ. In fact, I'm afraid to ask much of anything in Layonara because I don't know what constitutes as RP with DM attention and asking for too much. My main problem is that I never seen to be able to log in when a DM is, and the quests in the calendar are too late or too early for me to make. There's a lot that Llane could do on her own free will that I would like to try, but I'm also afraid I may be crossing the line by asking for any of it...

Am I worrying too much? There's so much underground stuff that I want to get involved in and help influence in its creation, but it seems like there's a lot going on with the DMs already that I'll just be a bother... or trying to DM shop or something.

Just for Fun / If Your Character Was a Poem
« on: December 03, 2008, 06:54:57 am »
I've always looked through poems and have gone, "Wow, that sounds a lot like my character..." Being a person who loves poetry, I decided to make a thread to see if anyone else ever did the same, or if they could be spurred to search through the many volumes of such to find something that matches.

Regardless, I was contemplating posting this originally in Llane's CDT, but since it isn't my work, I came here to share.

Llane is most associated with me to the poem The Hollow Men by T. S. Eliot. Enjoy.

---

Mistah Kurtz—he dead.

A penny for the Old Guy

      I

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death’s other Kingdom
Remember us—if at all—not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

      II

Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death’s dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind’s singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.

Let me be no nearer
In death’s dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat’s coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer—

Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom

      III

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

Is it like this
In death’s other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.

      IV

The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river

Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death’s twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

      V

Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o’clock in the morning.

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow
                                For Thine is the Kingdom

Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow
                                Life is very long

Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
                                For Thine is the Kingdom

For Thine is
Life is
For Thine is the

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Ask A Gamemaster / Dark Elves
« on: December 02, 2008, 04:21:08 pm »
What's the view on these guys? I assumed they were hated, wretched creatures on the surface, but I see a lot of tolerance for them from others.

On that note, where do giants, trolls, orcs, and other humanoid races stand with the common people? What about kobolds and goblins?

Llane S. Anetheron, a punk elf who is rarely seen without her hood and her flask, wanders in various places throughout Hempstead to catch any notable pieces of information. She particularly is seen near the docks and inside the Scamp's tavern, where she is amicable and engages in small talk with the commoners around so long as they seem willing to speak. Her manner, although insolent, is witty and borders on sharp humour. When queried about her own history, she answers enough on her name (Llane), her origin (Arnax), and that she came here to escape the full front of the civil war. Otherwise, she will do her best to politely and subtly evade any other questions.

On Freas, she often brings her dock working friends a flask of ale from the tavern in the afternoon to tell stories over, and those are the days she allows her melodic laughs. Should she choose to remain in the taverns, she'll often buy the table she is haunting a free round.

//Llane is looking to learn any information in Hempstead through small talk with commoners. She will pry as well as she can without coming off rude, but is only really looking for the surface stuff right now. I can pay the gold IG that's spent on the ale if that's required!

Ask A Gamemaster / Social Character
« on: November 13, 2008, 12:21:09 pm »
How well does a social character (a character who does not devote themselves to fighting mobs for exp) do in the server of Layonara? I find myself making characters that would do better receiving straight RP/quest exp, but then I run into the problem of being online when DMs aren't and being too low level to quest with the mains... Granted, I don't mind if I have to roll a +12mod against a +30 mod, that's fine with me, but the requirements listed in calendar are way above my character's level to even join.

Any suggestions? I'm fine with slow leveling... not so much with no leveling. That's all.

General Discussion / Wrath of the Lich King!
« on: November 12, 2008, 07:45:25 am »
Wrath of the Lich King, which is the expansion pack for World of Warcraft, releases tonight at midnight. Since Masquerade and I are practically obsessed with the game (I've only been seriously playing for a month and I'm already gearing up in t5), we'll be taking a break to get level 80 and PvP like mad for some new gear. Until then, you won't see us much in Layonara, but we'll be back! I just wanted to write a brief reason for our absence, and that we haven't lost interest. NWN is sort of our game on the side for when we're saved to all the cool raids and there's not much going on.

We'll be on the forums and MSN, regardless.

Horrid was a King of Dogs. Not a king as you and I might see one, wearing a crown and sitting upon a throne, but a king nonetheless.

Of rulers, it could not be said that he was a wise king, nor an especially brave one. It could be said that he was much like any or all dogs. He enjoyed sleeping lazily amongst dandelions on a hot evening. He favoured those that offered him scraps no more really than those who gave him the sole of their boot. He would wag his tail and dance about the Krandor woods snapping his jaws at butterflies. He had fleas. Most that knew him had fleas also, at one point or another. This was his youth and the sunshine days, and they blurred from one into the next. His majesty was never enough majestic, but he was not crowned as such just yet.

And it was one autumn morning that the dog enjoyed a rabbit chase through the deep woods. His bounding heartbeat and gasping sprint closed him to the terrified creature so near that Horrid's bite seized him a lucky charm.

Misfortune was taken with fortune. Such is the way of all canine.

His ears raised as his head lifted. He had heard the encroaching steps before the rabbit's paw rolled from the tongue to the crunching leaves. The dog yelped and startled as something bit his ear. His snout bared teeth as he winced backward. Then two somethings bit the tree beside him - and he yipped. He turned to see the tall creatures which he did not understand. Horrid knew they were the biters, but they were so far away...and it is near impossible for a dog to understand that something from further away than his snout can hurt him.

Another arrow struck the beast's flank, and he stumbled to run. Wounded as he was and unwise, though not entirely brave... he was fleet. His paws carried him straight into a stinger's shadow, and he buried his teeth deep into the soft part below the mouth where the blood is. Among dogs, the phrase 'Bit off' is more appropriate than 'bit', but dogs tend to exaggerate.

Horrid was brought down. He panted in the woods, breathing heavily and rasping. He was riven with shafts. He tumbled down a leafy embankment and lay near a whispering stream. His pursuers dashed away suddenly at the thunderous Hoot of an owl.

Horrid wondered if he could eat the stinging arrow that protruded from his snout, for he was famished and tired. He whimpered as he lapped his bloody fur. It was not until she kissed him that he understood death and the life it risks. He comprehended dying.

Horrid beheld before him the dew glisten morning, the rays between the trees. She was all things that are beautiful in nature. Flowers and bees tuned the green air around her, and honeysuckles assailed his nostrils.

No longer would anything be the same, for he knew now that it was as if he had been asleep, and just awoken a child.

The dog was before his mother. He fulfilled one thing that all other of his species could not claim: He became aware - aware of his capability to learn....

Layonara Server / Layonara Pre-Paid Credit Card
« on: November 07, 2008, 08:17:36 am »
I use a Prepaid credit card to do internet-related things due to my uncertainty regarding the validity of some sites that I may use. Regardless, Paypal doesn't take prepaid, so is there any way I can donate to this server with what I use now instead of having to go through my bank?

It's a Visa prepaid, btw.

On the dawn of this day, I leave from the village of Hlint. The sun is to my back as I walk, its fingers reaching over the hills as if in guidance to my intended direction.

I will not look back, 'lest it blind me, but turn my gaze forwards and appreciate the golden sheen it gives these lands.

This is the blessing that the Lady of Dreams has granted me. My day of departure was not seen with wind and rain, but with gentle breeze and songbird, and the heavy heat that oft' accompanies summer days such as these seems not as prevalent. Perhaps it is the work of the gods; Perhaps it is simple optimism that lightens the weight of my gear and makes each step as if some part of a dance.

Such is the uncertainty granted to only the uncertain. I question too often. Is that feature or flaw?

My journey towards Fort Llast and eventually Port Hempstead continues. I hope to find a caravan to make the passing of each mile easier, as it would give me more time to finalize my thoughts before beginning on my true goal. I'm only afraid that I may make an error before then.

Here was I, thinking that I would not have to worry of my impression with other people. It may have influenced my haste in leaving after having received my longbow, but if that is the case, then I certainly did not think of the difficulties ahead.

Regardless, whether I receive a cold reception or not, such concerns should not put me ill at ease for now. Until I arrive at Port Hempstead, I will simply enjoy what beauty there is to see. That is the true meaning of my own life.

Ask A Gamemaster / Overall State of Layonara
« on: November 05, 2008, 08:08:50 am »
Hi, GMs

Could I have a summary of the overall state of the world as it is now? I've seen mentions of a war and the Foundation's fund raising benefits which may interest my character in my entering of this realm, and was hoping to receive information so I can roleplay accordingly to current world events.

Thank you <3

Introduce Yourself / Atonement
« on: November 03, 2008, 11:40:00 pm »
Dear Layonara,

I never thought I would be making this post, but as the years went by, I realize now that this is one of those things that deserves done. The idea was toyed with for some time, considered, and rejected, but now my conscience seems bent on keeping me awake until it's finally done.

Layonara, I once joined this server as a bright-eyed, uncertain girl of age 14 (or was it 13? 15?). My roleplaying style was awkward and shallow, and I myself was a person of arrogance. The legacy I created here need not be rewritten or restated, but I made a severe mistake that still reflects badly on me even today, and made a fool of me during my stay here.

I came here to apologize for it.

Those years ago, I met up with a man who went by the username Hawklen and took his side to the point that, on the day of his banning, I would join on a decision to make a mockery of Layonara. We made a website dedicating to the overall "fail" of this server, and I even went as far as to help him play here under a false identity to find more ammo towards ruining this server's public face. I honestly can't remember what that fake username was... I'll dig it up for you all if you really would care to know.

- I don't know what I was thinking. I thought I knew, I thought I was doing something right and that I was justified, but on hindsight, all I managed to do was make a complete fool of myself and wreck someone else's definition of fun. This was a game, I forgot that then, and I'm sorry for making this place, for some time, a personal act of revenge.

Dorganath, I don't know if you remember me, but I can still recall the kindness you showed me clearly. That goes for the rest of this server... Sallaron's player, Steel's player, Stephen_Zuckerman, Mike, Tiffany... It's been a while, but I'd like to think my memory's not completely failed me. I came here as a girl struggling with illness, depression, and trauma... and I left here bitter and hurt, lead on by a guy I probably should never had spoken to. What I forgot to remember is that I had fun on this server... I was taught maturity that never registered until years later, and I met people I still remember today.

That means something to me. Heavens above, I know I sound like a bloody freak saying that, but it means something to me.

Regardless, what's needed said was written... so I'll close this by saying that I would like to return, if you all would have me. I've made a lot of mistakes, but I would also like to believe I've learned a lot of lessons. A part of me wanted to write of who I am now and where I've gone, but it felt inappropriate to do so, at least here. This was an apology.

I'm sorry for doing you wrong, those who remember me. If you would have me back, perhaps I can do something to redeem myself for what I've done. If not, then I hope this post at least can be acknowledged so that I may leave with a cleaner state of mind.

Sincerely,
Christine

General Discussion / Well, Folks
« on: October 19, 2007, 02:28:20 pm »
Unfortunately, if you noticed the brief mention in my other posts, my dad had me delete NwN. Now, I had been considering for some time to just sneak an installation back on and play nights, but I realized that isn't quite possible... I know my parents, and as insane as I am, I'm not that crazy.

So, I've got my CDs, CD keys, and well... The works taken. It's alllllll gone. My dad even went as far as having me take it off my external hdd. To somehow find a way to put it back on and play again would force me into losing this whole computer, and I do so like my computer...

With a heavy heart then, I bid you all farewell. This "addict" has to go find some other thing to do, and because of that, I won't be checking back on the forums from this point on or give a wave any longer. It's a bit difficult for me myself to stick around and watch everyone else have the fun, after all :) I hope you understand.

Contact information is in my profile... Check the About Interia post Shiff wrote for me to know times that I'll be on :) Thanks, guys, for all the support you've had for me over these months. I've been getting Lupron shots since yesterday and will for 6 months, once a month, so health-wise... I should be getting all better! No worries on anything there.

If possible, I'll try to log on one last time to have Kinai do her IC thing and give her stuff to her father figure, her friends, etc. For the sake of staying IC, I won't give EVERYTHING away...Just whatever she feels would help them while she leaves to some land far far away. No promises...I might have Stephen or someone do it for me since he knows how Kinai works (if you don't mind, that is, Stephen...And if you GMs are cool with that)...Maybe I could write her a will if no one would mind carrying it out for me. Whatever.

For the Seras interaction I had between Drizzlin and I...Sorry, Drizz, I won't be able to do that anymore. I think you know how Seras works well enough to roleplay her thoughts for me... Maybe someday someone will roleplay her. That would be cool! Kinai herself will take her leave in her search for the avatar of Shadon and never be seen again, I suppose. Simple vanishing...Maybe a bear got hungry and ate her. Again, whatever on that.

So that's that. The door is closed, and I won't have NwN till I move out and start my own life in my own home. Save your cheers, tears, whatever you feel like you need to do...I think Layo will be long gone by the time I'll have a chance to return, so, again... Take care, everyone.

It was nice knowing you.

Hearts, Hugs, Waves,
//Interia_Discordius

*Kinai throws some posts around well-visited taverns and areas*

To all beginning metal workers and adventure loving people,

Kinai Ancalime will be organizing an exciting trip through the darkest of Mistonian caves to search from copper to platinum ore. Date and time is written below, and everyone will meet outside Port Hempstead by the pond for the beginning. Please leave your oxen in the stable unless you feel you can keep a sharp eye on it, and otherwise, come along to have fun. Even if you wish for no ore, we'd love more company.

Ale, food, and gold will be split and shared afterwards. Items will be first offered to those who can make the most use of it before they are rolled for. Looting policies will be discussed during our meeting.

Looters need not be afraid, we won't abandon you.

If deemed unnecessary, copper and tin will be forgotten in exchange for more focus on iron and platinum. All final decisions will be made during group meet.

Sign up below.

Regards,
Kinai Ancalime

General Discussion / CNR Mistone Run
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:54:48 am »
I made a post (linked below) complaining about the lack of party forming due to being unaware. Well, I figured if I have a complaint, I should be the one to try doing something about it.
http://forums.layonara.com/general-discussion/139812-teaming-scheduling.html

So here's my attempt. Today, starting at 7pm EST, I'd like to make a CNR run through the West server to get copper, tin, iron, and platinum. If we have time, maybe some gold as well (I'm not sure where silver is in West). I will also be including lots of roleplay of course :)

What we need is a cleric or two, some mages, and lots and lots of fighters! The more the merrier. Everyone's willing to share the CNR, I'm sure, and even if you don't want it, it'd be a blast to come along with us :) Sign up below here or in the IC post of this, wherever you like, and I hope to see you tonight!

General Discussion / Teaming and Scheduling
« on: October 16, 2007, 10:53:34 am »
Hey guys,

I've been noticing that there's been high level runs going on through the more difficult areas, but not when and where. Last night, I was invited to one, but otherwise, I've felt a bit left out of the loop. - A bit of a note on that, sorry I couldn't join... 10pm EST is a rough time to make during school days, even if I'm not currently going.

I always thought high level would be something along the lines of grand and fun with more areas to explore and special items to have, but all I've noticed is that my bank account is losing more money than I could ever put into it, and that quests around the times I can manage are all for levels below 17 or 13. Now, I'm not trying to get this into a discussion for low level and high level quests, it's just a brief observation of why high level doesn't feel as grand as I first thought :)

With all that combined, I've been left to running about with lower levels and roleplaying. No complaints on either of those alone, really, I never realized Mistone could be so fun...Yet, you know, I've kind of wanted to check out East with different folks now and then.

I always thought that the "clique" attitude was mentioned constantly because of certain people or the deal, whatever, but I'm more along the lines beginning to believe that it's because people who ARE left out of the loop don't know how to join. By the time you realize there's a group out in East, they're way too far for you to go with them.

And then you're left back in West sitting around in Hempstead...

So, just as a suggestion, but why can't we have more forum based posts inviting people to East, Central, even West runs? Stick more into the calendar so those who have trouble getting into that stuff due to schedule problems, not OOC'ing with the proper people enough, etc can join. Set aside some time so it's not ungodly late all the time and then launch people through mass destruction of the lands combined with beautiful roleplay.

It would be fun for all of us to have some newer people, after all...
