Development Journals and Discussion / The Drakand family history.
« on: January 25, 2008, 04:58:54 am »
334 - The Drakand family splits.

Timeline: - Elves are nearly defeated by the Humans and exile themselves to Voltrex. They begin to regroup and re-establish dominance between families. Many Elves stay behind on the main continents to protect the forests in whatever way possible. Elf and Human war ends.

Separation:

After the decision to exile to Voltrex the Drakand family fell into a dispute. The current head of the family Laf'Bael Drakand strongly opposed leaving the seeds of the future to rot and wither away and his brother La'Aer Drakand strongly supported the exile. The Drakand family had always been a model of elven society and well respected by the elven houses. Their family education and customs held a close resemblance to that of the royal families themselves. Proper upbringing and not indulging themselves into social status and lust they became well respected and produced many fine officers and scholars for the evlen nation.

It was this event that not only split the Drakand's but also lost their standing in elven society. In the end half of the family stayed behind to assist in the rebuilding and protection of the future and the other half followed in exile to be separated from a world of chaos. In respect to each perspective Laf'Bael's faction viewed those who went into exile as cowards and deserters, La'Aer's faction viewed those who stayed behind as traitors and lost. As the now separated families began their new destinies they each found themselves at the bottom, Laf'Bael who once held respect from all of elven society found he had to lead what was left of his family into a world where knowledge and customs fell a distant second to power and steel. As for La'Aer he had lost all the respect he and his family once held because of the split resulting in having the elven houses refuse to acknowledge him.

A respected family splits in two and brothers say their last goodbye's, with the world in chaos and in constant change each of the brothers' lays down their quill after writing down their new goals and objectives along with their regrets. Taking a deep breath and releasing a bitter sigh Laf'Bael and La'Aer now on different sides of the world makes an oath, to one day seek out the other half of the family and make amends for allowing their family to fall apart. As time flows on, they lay silently in their graves leaving the weight of their sorrow, hopes and dreams to their children.
Development Journals and Discussion / Chasing Shadows
« on: December 24, 2007, 08:37:44 am »
I was doing my normal thing hanging out in town hiding, listening and watching. I find so many things of interest and people often talk louder than they should. I guess the hardest part of a secret is not talking about it. I actually spent some time around the entrance to Port Hempstead today I have been hearing rumors of Drow and others of the forbidden races sneaking in. Well I know about one or two Drow in fact I helped them sneak in but that's another story with my own interests in mind. It was late at night and I was just outside the gates when I spotted a Shadow creeping up behind me, I followed it around back of the walls and it just looked at me all I could do was stare at it. Between that and an odd note I picked up I get the feeling that I'm being watched, strange concept if I may add as one person watches someone there is another watching him, it is very likely that the chain of watchers goes on and on until there is one high above the rest unseen and unwatched. That is who I would like to be however I suppose I have a long way to go before I can even consider the position.

Shadowdancer, it implies that one can become one with the shadows often considered dancing with them. I have often thought about it and when I was younger I talked to one and I was amazed by their skill. The Shadow I was not too fond of mostly in part because I thought he was going to eat me but I soon got over that. Anyway it is time I put some real effort into learning these arts, however I won't take to petty street crimes and the sorts to gain the eye of the Thief's guild as they are the most likely group to have Shadowdancers in their ranks. I will find my own way about this one that I can condone to. I'm not giving up my soul to the Shadows either; they are to be my tools nothing more.
//OOC: even though I am always sneaking about hiding and in a shadow or two watching people I have not really written much about it I have all the feats and skills to go SD on my 10th level and I have like 200k xp to get before that, so I'm going to try and write more about the efforts for you guys. Also I'm going to hold off on the request untill I get closer to my 10th level and have a chance to talk to some IC people that could directly effect the future of my char. so it best I wait and come to a conclusion there first. in the end I want to go SD it's just the means to do it may change.

Development Journals and Discussion / The Artifact's Puzzle
« on: December 12, 2007, 04:58:41 pm »
I spend much of my time chasing false leads and dead ends. My career as a Treasure Hunter is not all I'd of expected it to be, I mean actually finding the treasure is all but a dream in most cases. I've mostly found gold and gems, though I have been gathering information about artifacts as of late. It seems that they can fetch a rather nice price once found and auctioned within the merchants circle. So far I have setup contacts within Port Hempstead, and Fort Vehl they feed me random bits they hear in the Pubs and on the streets that's how I ended up investigating these latest artifacts.

It turns out that there is a group willing to pay top coin to anyone who can find the missing pieces to this Artifact Puzzle. I myself am rather fond of puzzles, but I would never drop an Ox load of coin down for one. My contact in Port Hempstead assured me that these artifacts where the real deal and that the competition would be fierce with all the top Hunters  taking up the search, I can't blame them whenever the merchants circle makes a fuss and puts their coin on the line things get found one way or another. For now I'm just going to hang low and collect whatever tidbits I can no sense rushing into a tomb only to find bones, I've done plenty of that already.

I went in way over my head today. I got wind of a Treasure map and I started asking around for some infomation. I ended up playing dice for over half the night to get a lead. Just when I thought I had lucked out on my way out of the Inn I received a Note with directions of where and who to meet the following day to get the Map. I ended up sleeping in a horse shelter by the Docks that night because some suspicious people started hanging around the Scamp's Mug and the gates out of the City.

When I woke up I went about the merchant shops to get supplies for the Hunt, then on my way to the Inn I discovered the note was missing. I searched around for it I could only think of one place I went into my pouch and that was when I stopped to get some water at the Fountain. I remembered seeing that Guy Sall he was all cloak and dagger hiding his face because he had some issues with a wizard of sorts and turned him into a Goblin I guess.  I don't have the whole story but it seems enough people are making a fuss over it. I ended up going back to the fountain to see if I had dropped it. When I arrived he was still there but with a few other people I did not recognize.

I had been in a hurry and very distracted lately because of the strange people showing up as if watching me. So I had changed and hid my face as best I could while looking for the Note. After awhile someone took notice of me and asked me what I was looking for I managed to send him off with a casual answer of looking around. My only thought was maybe Sall had picked up the Note, Light! I really don't want to get involved with him; those guys are really pushing him. So I ended up sitting down a bit away keeping an eye on him. I'll just follow him when they depart I mean they can't talk all day. Much to my surprise they had all left together out of the city and so I was forced to follow behind.

We ended up in Fort Wayfare where I followed him into the Inn; I took a seat away from them as they were getting rooms.  I'll have to wait it out here and wait for a chance to ask him about the note.  As the night went on I overheard them trying to get him into a room Sall was pretty uneasy around them, though he is normally uneasy about everyone.  Funny how a little guy can attract so much attention, I seen him eating out of that odd bowl again I wonder why he treasures it so much maybe it was a reminder of when he was not a goblin oh well.  Not long after another man came over and sat down next to me said his name was Travie or Travis or something like that he looked in high spirits and was drinking like he found some buried treasure.. Light! I keep thinking about treasures and how I lost the note and that s why I ended up following Sall to this place. Eventually Sall came over saying something about he knew this travie guy and wanted to talk to him so I ended up sitting and drinking with all of them.

After a time I went to the outhouse and on my way in I thought I noticed someone strange hanging around outside the Inn I quickly went back in and sat down having that uneasy feeling that I'm being watched again. I asked the others at the table if they seen anyone strange lately but they shrugged it off or drank ignoring the question. This Travie guy was interested though I ended up telling him about the note and that ever since I got it I've been seeing these suspicious people hanging around Hempstead and now here at Fort Warfare.  Much to my surprise Sall claimed he had found a note and he got interested in its purpose about the same time Travie claimed to have found a Map over at the Scamp's Mug I gaped, Light! how did he find it? I must have been scammed. It's not uncommon for a Map seller to make copies and sell ten maps. Looks like another dead end.

I found myself drawn into travie's story about finding the map so we started out the door leaving the Inn to talk without so many ears about.  Sall was very interested in this Map and treasure and guessing he wanted to get away from those other two guys trying to get him alone, I suggested that he come along with me and travie to talk about the map.  As we left the inn I got a glimps of another suspicious woman and some street thug hanging just outside the door, Bloody hell they ARE following me. We quickly moved away finding a safe spot to talk about the map. Turns out he had already found the treasure was nothing more than some gold and I think a gem and a potion of something. Suddenly everything went dark a spell of darkness took us and I could hear some scuffling nearby it sounded like Sall was being attacked though I soon found myself cracked on the head and overwhelmed by the void of unconsciousness...
Development Journals and Discussion / Scouting Ahead.
« on: December 06, 2007, 06:33:18 am »
Today I got myself some maps of the kingdom so I decided to scout out the surrounding areas.  After leaving the Port I followed the road till I came to a fork and took the east road towards Port Hempstead Fields. I shortly discovered 2 fields, one on my left harvests Cotton, and the one to my right was Barley.  Southeast Just past the Barley Fields I discovered another field that had Pipeweed - Flatbottom Leafs.

As I traveled east I noticed some smoke, as of now the maps I had gathered have not been updated in some time so I carefully headed in the direction as to not alert whoever may be around the area. I soon found what appeared to be a barricade of sorts from sharpened logs. I followed a path to the southeast up a hill and got a nice view of the camp. From what I could see there only appeared to be 3 set out on guard one carried a sword and the other two had slings. I would not recommend barging into this camp as they have all positioned themselves to see each other and in case of an attack they will all be alerted and assist in the defense of their camp.  South of the camp there appears to be a pass that leads further into the canyon however I'm not going to chance sneaking by them to figure out where it goes. Maybe in a few weeks when I can afford better gear I'll check it out.

After making it back to the Road I found that there was another fork in the road one that headed North and another that continued east and on the northeast corner of the fork was a Barn, there was nothing really special about it that I could see. After following the road north a bit I found a Fort called Wayfare and I ended up doubling back to travel further east and discovered a Path to the Ire Mountains.  Checking the sun I decided it best to wrap up and head back to Port Hempstead, as well as stopping by Fort Wayfare to look around.

After Arriving at Port Hampstead things where not looking too well, this is largely due to most of my belongings being stolen.  At first I attempted to take a look around and soon found myself face to face with a bandit but as it turns out I was considered too much of a bother to go through with the effort for so little coin. Of course I was thankful but for some reason it does not sit well with me, in any case we had a bit of a chat about the surrounding area as I was new to the region. He gave a me some advice as to where to go and some insight on how to do it.  I was grateful, however once again it does not sit well with me for I can tell he's not your typical cutpurse and I would be well to not forget about him because I'm sure in few days he'll remember me and want to check up on my wellbeing, the wellbeing of my coin pouch that is.

After a few hours I came across a woman who abruptly reached out to me begging I do something about a pipe drain.  I really didn't want to have her following me around so I told her I would take a look if she would calm down.  So I ended up entering the area in question and as I expected it smelled quite horribly and that was only the beginning.  Now I've seen many a rat in my time but none like these, I got bit, scratched, paralyzed and to top it all off I died.  I ended up spending a good sum of my coin in recovery potions but I guess it was not all for nothing I got some practice with my unpolished skills and I even got a nice sneak attack here and there.  Not to mention I had to use a skinning knife since my rapier was part of the items I had had stolen.

After awhile I met a nice woman named Tegan, she was very helpful with sorting me with gaining some equipment at the Orc Bashers since I am knew around here I really had no clue of how the system worked.  I also had a brief conversation with a young crafter I asked him if he had seen anyone that looked like my father after giving him a description he informed me he had not.  I suppose if I travel around enough I may run into him.  If he had washed up on any of the other continents he would have to find work and start saving for a boat ticket and the journey back to Seacove so with luck I may find him milking a cow haha that would be the day for sure a day I would never let him forget.
Development Journals and Discussion / Faith in Question.
« on: December 05, 2007, 03:06:21 am »
Jaigan listens to his mother's words of concern, Jaigan you seek knowledge but deny the wishes of Aregan to lock away the vast knowledge that has been collected,   Jaigan runs his fingures through his hair searching for what to say, I understand that is what has happened mother, however don't you find it rather contradicting for the Lord of Knowledge to deny the very informaton he has been asking his faithful to collect all these generations? How are we to know that the Loremaster himself is not acting on his own accord? Often when great power is found it is unlikely they will want to give that up, much less share it with their brothers.  Doesn't it ever cross your mind as to why even after sealing away the great teachings that we are told to continue on enlightening the unenlightened? I mean the Followers of Aregan should be well investigating the very nature of the sudden 180 in behavior.

As it stands now mother it's debatable that one should even follow Aregan if he refuses to allow the education of the people which was the entire foundation of his faith, to collect and share knowledge. I mean I was lucky enough to grow up with sunlight, after the fall of Bloodstone countless people only knew of the darkness that swallowed the World. I often found myself telling the children of Seacove about the Sun and sky with puffy white clouds and you know what, they looked at me like I was telling them the biggest fairy tale this side of Dregar. Illiana looked at Jaigan with sad understanding eyes, as performing her arts as a bard has often been just telling of life before the Great Darkness nothing fantastic just normal everyday things that the dark clouds stole from the people of Layanara. What if there was a way to take away the darkness sooner or prevent it in the first place locked away in the Lima Prima?

Standing up and looking out the window Jaigan continues, first it was the Dragons, then Bloodstone now it's the Dragons again! Are we to sit back and watch this madness recycle throughout the ages? I just can't accept the possibility that we are meant to lay down and kneel to these gods as they bicker back and forth between themselves about who is more righteous then the other all the while us, looking at his mother with deep caring eyes then out the window again at the children playing and some men patching a roof outside, mother most of the world just wants to live their life without ever caring if someone worships them or loves them they just want the right to live it. I can understand many things but part of living is learning and no one should deny that especially not now when we have lost so much.

I'm not asking you to toss away your beliefs mother I'm just telling you I can't whole heartedly serve a god who would deny his faithful the very fruit they seek through worshiping. It's like paying taxes to the King in order to have the protection of the city guards knowing they will not protect you, it's not right. At the same time I can't ignore the possibility that the king may not know his guards are not protecting and the wealth is being greedily horded by an evil Guard captain Jaigan smile to his mother, just like that tale you used to tell me when I was young. Illiana smiles warmly yet uneasily, just watch what you say outside this house Jaigan I can't stand to lose another to this cruel age. Opening his eyes wide at her words Jaigan quickly responds in a sure tone, Father is not dead; it'll take more than a swim to stop him. He's probably having a good time with the Sea Elf's as we speak. (Somewhere on a small deserted Island Anixius sneezes).
