Development Journals and Discussion / Will's Black Book of thoughts...
« on: April 03, 2010, 04:49:42 pm »
http://forums.layonara.com/recent-approvals/266582-willow.html (//Character Sub//)

*this little black book's cover is stained with ink blots and has various scuffs over it's front. Upon opening it looks just like a normal notebook, the blank pages however have a strange but unusually artistic sort of handwriting upon them.*

Willow lies back on her bunk, pulling out the book and she starts to write...

I did it. I got onto the boat, they think I am William. I tried hard to fit in with the other lads, which may sound impossible for someone like me, someone who doesn't fit in anywhere. I enjoyed disguising myself, pretending I was someone else. Somehow they accepted me as part of the crew. For once in my life, I actually felt I might belong...
I was looking forward to being aboard, ships always remind me of home .... I liked being on them. Although mainly, I really need the coin.
It was just going to be a cruise, I'd take some orders, I'd get some of the spoils.
But things are never that easy.

There was a big man, I hated him with a fury. His name was Jericho. When first boarding the ship, I asked a question and he moved my way staring down at me. I stared back up resolute, though I was shaking a little. I always got nervous around people, I was always shy around people, and I hated that. It made me look weak. He punched me soundly in the eye, and I fell to the ground with a thud like it was effortless for him.
I felt my anger raging inside...
Then I felt a hand at my shoulder.. looking to the side I saw no-one was next to me. Then I heard that amused chuckle again.
'My my, what a temper... Keep it in check dear, before they make you walk the plank...' Another manical laugh that slowly echoed away. I was glad it shut up already.

I got to know the rest of the recruits... there was Jimmy, another Tilmarian. I started to trust him a little at first but the way he keeps smiling my way... as if he knows something, knows my secret, that scared me... perhaps I wouldn't get far after all.
Then there was Purple, a dwarf with a ridiculously fancy outfit who ended up being the ship's cook. I don't think he could really harm a fly so I needn't be wary of him I don't feel.
Among the others were Kurn, who knew his stuff when it came to boats, the little mischievous Nonac, A big man with one eye, and the one they call "Naster." The two latter are the ones I trust least of all.

At one point Jimmy was ordered to have dinner with the captain although I did catch the First Mate mentioning there was a chance she'd slit his throat being the way she is. Whether he was joking or not, I kept to the shadows and slowly followed. I had a bad feeling about this Captain, and I intended on finding out the reasons for these things. Perhaps it was just my hopes that the other 'recruits' would 'understand' me and that I actually might make some friends. I was doubtful though, I have to say. Some of them had made me laugh harder than I had in years with their sea shanties... maybe they were misfits too. I'd soon find out ...I was sure.

While debating this in my head, hiding behind something and dropping eaves, I heard the Captain tell him to go and pick a fight with one of us.
My instincts were right, something was up.
I had a plan in my head already... I asked myself why I was helping this man.
I honestly don't know, only that I did.

I tried to whisper to him to fight me on the way up as I caught up. He looked surprised and I could tell he was about to argue but I explained I could act it out, let him win. That way he'd be completing the order without ending up a bloody corpse on the floor. That would certainly ruin my plans to have some allies for once instead of trying to do everything alone...
It was actually working pretty well. One of us would swing a punch and stop before it him them, then we'd pretend to react to the pain. I laughed a little and was enjoying the fighting and the competition so much I almost forgot I was supposed to be letting him win.. but the crew fell for our act the whole time and I pretended to be knocked out after some pummeling.

I lay still and held my breath as the wind blew lightly. Then I heard some stomping... it got louder. And louder.
Suddenly I was lifted off the ground like a feather and slung over a shoulder.
"Time to take out the trash." Jericho grunted. I opened one eye a crack. The last time he'd said that... he'd tossed one of the crew overboard...
What an idiot I was!
Maybe I really would have been better off alone, maybe I would have been stronger.
Anger is what makes you strong... I should have known that.
I panicked as death loomed before me.
Some of the other crew were talking, I couldn't make out what they were saying. I struggled but couldn't get free.
He started to move closer to the ships edge.
Was my life really over at nineteen?
Apparently not as I was tossed and my back slammed against the sides of the ship. I struggled to my feet, and he told me to jump. I drew my sword. He laughed in my face.

I wasn't going to go down without a fight!
With the rain beating down I gripped my blade and growled, and I noticed some of the others coming over, Nonac was hiding a trap near me.
Jericho stormed over and I managed to get in a blow, but he was too strong and I got beaten to the ground.
I never thought the others would help me.
But they did, they saved me.
As I lay on the ground ... I thought... maybe they do care. Maybe I was wrong. Friends do make you stronger. I helped someone, and they helped me back. Is this what having a friend is like? I can't remember. I never thought the world was a very fair place. Maybe I was wrong...

Maybe I was wrong...

The book snaps shut.

Looking over at the others in their bunks, her hard features soften a little and she turns over pulling up the covers.

A small cackle 'Wiiillloooow...'

"Go away." I grumble.

'Now now, is that any way to treat me, how inconsiderate. And I have to say it looks like you're getting soft...!' The Voice scoffs.

Silence.

'Willow! You can't just blank me like this!'

"Watch me." I pull the covers over my head to sleep, a smile spreading on my face.

Rumour Has It / A report to the Rofirenites
« on: February 11, 2010, 11:06:39 am »
*Keppli is seen dashing up two steps at a time into the temple at Vehl... looking scruffy and out of place with twigs and such in her hair, muddy cheeks and boots, and she skids to a stop looking around for someone of high position to talk to gritting her teeth angrily*

"I saw this guy past Wayfare right... said he was one of you Rofies. Load of rubbish if ya ask me. Ya might want ta know he was scamming travelers and merchants by making 'em pay coin to go past the gates! I just rode past him myself, freedom shouldn't cost a  thing.

Oh, right right... he was sort of big-ish, wore plain-looking leathers and had a huMOUNgous moustache. Kinda guy I just wanted ta punch in the face.

So erm... I say ya should have a word with that guy, or... something. Cause there's definitely something up here"

*tapping a walking stick as he walks... Badger paces around the Krandor hospital. He often visited the place to give a helping hand around.*

"Another victim of the dangerous world we live in... there is always someone who is calling for help. I just hope from the bottom of my heart than none go unheard..."
*he sighs, running a hand through his pure white hair as if its some habit of his*
"It seems this one was attacked by the hordes of ogres that roam in the grasslands just on the outskirts of this town I recall..." *he says in a quiet, almost calm voice, running a hand along a big nasty-looking bruise and some cuts on the mans arm (as if he was punched with some force... or beaten with a club) and as he does so the man cries out in pain*

*Badger quickly shuffles through various scrolls and papers his eyes darting over the pages. They appear to be notes, diagrams, labels, all filled with precise information and images seemingly of different herbs, plants, weeds and the like. As he moves his finger across the page, he stops at one part and taps his finger on it..*

*he pushes his spectacles up his nose...*

"Ah... it is as I thought."
*quickly he goes about to grating a part of the comfrey and mixes it to a paste with some water. He then applies the salve to the mans arm, the man jerks a bit hesitantly but relaxes a bit as the ointment begins to work a little.*
*laying a hand that looks tanned and perhaps a bit like the texture of wood on the man's head... he murmurs a few prayers in gnomish before pulling up the covers and shuffling out the room, collapsing on a chair somewhere looking very worn and weary from a hard days work.*

General Discussion / Rangers
« on: January 23, 2010, 09:15:54 am »
Okay, I've been wanting to ask for a while if my character Keppli could join the Wolfswood Ranger Corps but I've been too shy to think about asking how I would go about doing so. ;)

I was hoping to catch one of the existing members in-game and talk/Rp with them about it though I think time-zones might be an issue because I never see any in-game.

I'm more than willing to go for an interview sort of thing/CDQ/whatever, just wondering how it works.

Thanks again,
-R/Keppli

Fixed Bugs / Death bug report
« on: January 15, 2010, 09:53:20 am »
Location: Silkwood Spider caves
Time: Quarter to three-ish GMT time.
Witness: Eleandilethessa Quil'lyn/Xaltotun

In the spider caves while in spider form Keppli died but Elean managed to save her with potions and heal kits. I could clearly see the health bar going back up to full hitpoints but Keppli was still lying on the ground with the usual death options so I had to respawn.
Luckily I had no DT but I think this might be a bug. Furthermore the player Xaltotun said the same thing happened to his character 'Ygraine Ursus', only they did lose a DT so just wondering whats going on here.

Thanks again team,
~R.

« on: December 17, 2009, 07:47:46 am »
Hello all :)

Keppli leveled recently and usually her wolf companion Lythar levels with her but this time for some reason when I summoned him up, he's still at level 14.

It's not like the levels really bother me at all if it cant be fixed...then dont bother about it, just curious as to why this happened. :p

Thanks.

Ask A Gamemaster / Halfling stuck up a big hill :(
« on: November 23, 2009, 02:58:01 pm »
Err, not to be a pain but somehow while Keppli was in the Ire Moutains, she was at the gnoll watchtower area, accidentally went back through the transition and appeared on the side of the map stuck up the hill where there's no way down. :p

She's currently waving a torch from the top for help :)

General Discussion / A log-in problem
« on: November 14, 2008, 11:05:28 am »
Right... me and Zoogmunch are really confused about this... and it's getting frustrating...
If someone knows how to fix this problem, then please tell us.
Hoping you know the answer to this one, Orth ;)

Right,
Normally, when I go into the NWN multi-player, everythings shows up fine, and I can log in no problem to Layo West.
But, if Zoogmunch (Rockhead) logs into West, then every server comes up fine, except West, which shows up as offline, and times out when I try to log into it.
Occasionally it will let me in as well as Zoogmunch, but sometimes it can take about an hour... maybe even a bit over that... just to log in when he is.
This also happens the other way round to Zoogmunch, if I'm logged in, the server times out for him.
I'm thinking this might be because our computers are both connected by LAN, I'm guessing thats a major problem.
I've already tried disabling the firewall, but that didn't work.

Thanks again. :)

General Discussion / Layo fanart
« on: October 08, 2008, 11:06:35 am »
Okay not sure if anyone else has done any Layo art but... if not then here is some! I was a bit bored when the server was down, so I decided to draw the troupe 'Two halves and a Pint'. I know it's not very good, but I was just trying to see if I could get the characters across by doing a mixture of :
a- looking at the portraits
b- remembering the clothes worn in-game
c- some.. err... imagination?

Anyways, sorry in advance if I haven't done them well, but I hope you all like it anyway... even if you don't, as long as this makes you laugh! :D

P.S. looks a bit blurry at first, but click on the pic for 'full-view' and you can see it better.
Thanks ;)

Development Journals and Discussion / The Life Of Keppli Quickhands
« on: August 08, 2008, 07:52:56 am »
*looks at the ancient forest green leather-bound book, a symbol of a wolf etched on the cover. She smiles then opens up the book, taking a quill and writing on the first blank page in green ink*

Dear Thistle,

I have often looked at this book you gave me... but i was not sure what to write at the time. I suppose this is a good thing too, as the writings would have been a lot more... depressing.
But i have, with the help of my good friend, Rockhead HowlingWolf the infamous bard *chuckles at that and continues writing* (he's from Hammerbound, remember when you took me once to visit the dwarves?) found at last the city of Hempstead. We traveled for days... maybe longer i couldn't keep track of time.
Some people may give the dwarf funny looks at times, but i couldn't have made it without him really. He was there to perform to the crowd in inns, so we could earn true enough to stay the nights. I always said i could sleep in the trees but he would always reply with
"That's nonsense, ye silly sausage!"
*laughs to herself and writes on*
Not sure what a sausage was... I thought i wouldn't ask, I think it's some dwarvish specialty though... And, i suppose he wouldn'ta survived without me either. I was there to stop him wandering off only to get eaten by an ogre, all thanks to that archery training you gave me many years ago. Oh, and the sword training. *she smiles before continuing*
Don't you worry, I'm taking care of Lythar for you. He seems to get stronger in the bond between us each day. It's strange though, he seems hardly changed from when i was just a young girl, save for the intelliegience only i seem to notice in his bright yellow eyes.
Anyways, on arriving to the city, I seemed .. exposed you could say, and people were screaming at me. I looked around, confused by this, when i noticed people pointing to Lythar, they were scared of him. I tried to tell them, that he wouldn't hurt nobody, but the guards told me to get him out. I looked to Lythar then, and he slowly nodded before dashing out the city.
I thought i'd never get used to it, but i seem to understand the city a lot more now. I have been there for a long time now.. and I have made friends. *she smiles happily* Some of the closest friends I have right now are Rockhead, a human called Ben Poetr, a half-elf called Caerwyn Ahrail'lan, a halfling called Tod Fellow... *she picks up the quill thinking then writes* I would write them all down, but then i wouldn't have room for adventures would I? *she grins*
I will visit you very soon, Lythar and me...
I hope you understand, why I had to leave the forest. And you have my trust on this, I will keep looking for her, I know you think her dead though you know I will never accept that. *a tear falls onto the corner of the page*
*she opens a small box and pulls out a black arrow with large yellow feathers, an eye drawn onto it. She wraps a small bit of thistle round it, wipes away a tear and puts it back, closing the box*
I will tell you my adventures too, and i'll write them in this book, so they will never be forgotten.
