Dunno if this was shared before but here it goes :)

Really good music imo ^^

YouTube - Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen! (Original + English Subtitles)

Although I prefer the remixed version where he ends with "trust me on the sunscreen".

Trade and Market Hall / Jinxy has fresh eggs!

A note is left on the boards in the Inns in Center, Hlint and Mariner's Hold:

Jinxy, me, has fresh eggs to sell! Entire box! Falcon me and I'll meet with you! Jinxy regards, Jinxy

Rumour Has It / Cougars in Lake Splendor are disappearing
« on: November 21, 2010, 07:40:23 pm »
Some travelers with keener senses might have known of a Cougar pack living somewhere near Lake Splendor. Fact is through time this pack has suffered losses... over the expected.

A common use for these beautiful feline pelts is known to be of bags making...

Some might even have spotted a little Gnome, dressed in dark sneaky tones and filled from toes to teeth with pouches, to every now and then run to that area... coming out, back towards Center, slightly overweighted in what it carries...

Wild Surge Inn / Bringing Hops to Center
« on: November 12, 2010, 02:56:47 pm »
Val Greenhaw consults with several brewers and farmers how to bring Hops to Mistone... most possibly near the Center, where travelers thirst for home brewed wonders weights uncountable Trues and unforgiving sadness.

Val always liked good beer, after all he is a Dwarf. He is as well a man-at-hands in the kitchen... and he would certainly like to be a brewer. But everytime he needs to collect hops... he needs to go as far as the Bloody Gates in Alindor. For some few flowers that luckily grew there.

He was told that to plant hops he needs:
- Plenty of space
- Direct sunlight
- Easy access to water
- Room for vertical growth and structures for the hops to climb up
- A well fertilized soiled
- No cold winters
... and a handfull of Hops' Rizhomes

The rizhomes he can, with no harm what so ever, bring from as far as the Bloody Gates, but the rest he had to ponder.

After some thought the place was clear: Center. The small stream could provide the water as it already does for the barley plantations. Though minimally agitated there are still large clearings here and there with little use, filled with light... and close to cows! They could provide the fertilizer...

So he started to ask the local travelers (and posted in Center's Inn dashboard) if they would like Hops to be brought to Center for tasty brewing (he asked mainly dwarves, but others as well) and he added he would like to know if anyone with exquisite knowledge of making plants grow (some Druid, Plant domain Cleric, etc) would help him to plant and take care of the Hops garden.

// post any IC actions/comments towards this. He has been a lot around Center so if you passed there you likely met him :P

Quests Ideas and Discussion / Low level quests!
« on: November 11, 2010, 12:22:59 am »
I don't know if this is the place to post this... it's not really an idea but more a request :)

If possible, of course, would be nice to have some low level quests! (there were some time ago some sequels such as Dawn of Heroes among some others)

Reason is as of late all online players are 20+ (personally I have one lvl6 and one lvl9) so I can RP... but "travelling" with such becomes kind of non-sense, right? Being rather useless... likely to die...

So perhaps to motivate low levels gathering and as well as a little pump (since XP grinding is a bit anti-RP).

Was just to ask that :)

Regards!

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Dead magic zone
« on: November 11, 2010, 12:16:12 am »
Was wondering... is the dead magic concept used in Layo? I guess it's not coded in NWN but Spell Failure applies to any kind of casting (arcane and divine) right?

Just guess it could be interesting to add it to some more complex quests if not used already :)

It has some good RP potential, such as mages feeling "weak" and sprouting desires to be able to better face those threats.

Development Journals and Discussion / Jinxy Lil'branch... scattered events!
« on: November 10, 2010, 02:51:11 pm »
It was a day like any other and Jinxy Lil'branch was making small molds out of clay that she intended to use for shaping copper arrow heads. Distracted enough, she almost missed a strange hooded fella who was trying to get her attention, silently. After a brief introduction the stranger kept his guard and doubt over Jinxy... his name was Ernest Enningwae (GM mixafix).

Although reluctant on speaking his mind, over some strange request for collecting quartz for an old mage, one called Merville, he seemed more relaxed when Jinxy gave her word to keep it a secret and furthermore told her to not accept money from the mage as Ernest's payment should be fair enough.

She gladly accepted and after gathering some information she was told there was quartz, the requested material, in the Haven mines... although the local Gnolls could be a deadly threat. But Jinxy had read somewhere that Gnolls aren't that bright so she went practicing her invisibility to their cave and it worked wonders. Nobody got hurt... she took her quartz... and went out.

Later on she found the mage Merville to whom she was suppose to deliver the quartz. Merville indeed attempted to pay her an gorgeous amount of True, and although tempted, she declined, saying that he owed her nothing, as she had promised. All in all she was glad she helped the good old mage.

Hello,

I was jinxily told you sell scrolls of arcane magic.
I would be interested in seeing which you have that I might jinxily buy in True.
Notify me whenever you are around to show the stock!

Jinxy regards,

Lil'branch

Ask A Gamemaster / Jinxy wanted to open a store...
« on: November 07, 2010, 03:42:12 pm »
Thing is... Jinxy wants to open a store to sell cheap never before thought gnomish creations such as:

- Nosepickeringwoodenilarious: a multi-edges one handle wood-sticks mixture to pick the nose with depending on the naustral size, deepness, status, etc

- Unbalancedbalance: a funny balance that, when there is nothing on it, it looks to be balanced! But when you compare weights with things on, the left side is multiplied by 1.2.

- Lookoverthere Ball: a ball that you can throw high in the air of the night and is very hard to spot, but when it lands it makes a strong flash and disintegrates, having the intention to make everyone nearby to look at it briefly, and being without attention to other areas.

- Teethairears Brushalot: a multi sided brush that can be used to brush your hair, your teeth and your ears.

- Handcuffs of Freedom: handcuffs that can be open only (easily) by those arrested by them. Useful to play tricks.

- Guillotine of Cooking: an apparatus that looks like a guillotine but has a crank on its side one can push any think through it and rotate the crank in order to easily slice, without getting dirty any vegetables or meat.

And many other things Jinxy will invent. Other Gnomes, preferably Goranites, would be welcome to join!
Some of this items are uniquely for RP fun, others might have minimal usage on GM guided events (like Lookoverthere Ball).

My questions are:

Are there any IG rules/laws that apply regarding "opening stores"? Taxation? Regulations?
To what extend can Jinxy make this store? Physically existing IG? Can the items be done/added (without any abilities of course)?
Are there any other questions I should have asked here? hehe

Thanks!

Ask A Gamemaster / Should Jinxy go True Neutral?
« on: November 06, 2010, 08:31:21 pm »
Greetings, derived from the thread Regarding Poison, I intend to understand the following regarding Jinxy's RP situation.

Her parents teachings were always focused on the self-interest. They taught her all they knew and all they could teach so that she could better face the world. Being as curious as she is, and loving the simple day by day fight through creation and machinations, she now faces the world alone, on her own, exploiting all the amusement of life from being a trickster engineer. She doesn't hold the least respect to her foes since she has found she'll get no respect from them (for example after being hunted by Orcs while just trying to get corn... why would she care about them?). So she admires the capacity of Goran to create things... but instead of using them to make the world better in a "good" way, she wants to use this engineering capacity to make the world better in her own way, and enjoy every last bit of it (which includes using poison).

Would that be enough to justify an alignment change? I can't RP who she isn't o.O

Ask A Gamemaster / Regarding Poison
« on: November 04, 2010, 02:24:06 pm »
Greetings,

I know that NWN associates poison with evilness and some have in mind that poison is used for torturing which is a non-good procedure.

Fact is... burning hands in ones leg... a knife in the finger... worms stuffed into ones mouth... can be tools for torture and other things, but they are not non-good. Poison as well can be used for other things, namely:

- Good aligned that use poison to weaken their enemies is a good deed (poison doesn't mean "evilness of slow torturing" but yet weakening/paralizing/incapacitating to more easily kill, which is not an evil paradigm I'd guess.

- Craft of poison-based "medicine" should be possible! It makes sense that an antidote uses poison in its recipe... or an item that gives "immunity to poison" should have perhaps a sample of all existing poisons (a lesser one would serve only against some).

And drilling down, my Gnome Jinxy Lil'branch is a NG smart and cunning Wizard Rogue, that enjoys each day by fighting it through with invention! Now poison traps and poisoned blades are smart things to use... she could make her enemies weaker before she would go for the next cunningness of the battle. She would never torture hence poison would never have such use.

To resume... I ask why is poison only for non-good aligned? And if it would be possible to have it changed somehow.

Cheers!

Fixed Bugs / Gloom Castle - Invulnerable Gaseous Forms
« on: October 30, 2010, 07:56:55 pm »
Bug Report

Description: Gaseous forms in Gloom Castle are set to Invulnerable.

I know that gaseous forms by concept are suppose to be "don't hit and can't be hit". But in the context of Gloom Castle I doubt that was their purpose as their spawn point blocks the way up on the second level (to the third) and the only way to go out of the castle is in the third level. They are even set as foes so I guess they are not mere wondering NPCs.

Location: Gloom Castle (near Gloom Woods, near Dapplegreen outskirts)

Verified: (didn't understand what I was suppose to say... the GM that helped us verified it if that counts)

Reproducable: Yes

Quests Ideas and Discussion / The Flash Event
« on: October 29, 2010, 07:14:10 pm »
I recently had an idea that I (at least for me) never found to exist. So if this was already talked of in the seas of these forums or actually exists and I am just unlucky and never came to feel it... sorry about mentioning it.

Would be extremely interesting if there would be Flash Events. Meaning, a GM interacts with an already going normal RPing group in whatever form best fits, for a brief moment and then pops off.

Few examples to make myself clear:

Situation A: A group of adventurers seeking some deep minerals in a dangerous underground Giants' complex decides to step aside to closed free area to rest... but, GM watching, they leave nobody on Vigil. Oh ooooo... bad luck... six Giants just appear rushing in rage into the little closed area after seeing the track of dead Giants that leads to it. If there was a Vigil... the vigil might be asked a Spot and Listen and the group might react faster. After that GM goes away and the group felt that the world might not be always as they expect, as it should be.

Situation B: A group of travelers put on a fire camp. The wind suddenly blows strongly. A reflex/concentration save and/or request for action is required from the players that are closest to it... in case of bad luck they might get some serious burns and/or leave a scorched area in the terrain... or worse... start a fire! (this might lead to something bigger!)

Situation C: While a group of fighting folks are massacring a small group of Goblins... one of them gobbos actually flees... and hides behind a cliff. When the group runs towards it... oh oooooo: traps? trap whole that makes them fall to the middle of a big group of elite Goblins? or a good group of goblins waiting near the cliff for an ambush?

Situation D: While a single player is near some NPC (town crier, merchant, "useless", etc.) the NPC actually interacts with him briefly. Perhaps providing some information... or trying to sell its fish at all costs if commerce has been low... who knows?!

All in all, a pinch of imagination and a well caught opportunity (which there are by the dozens in my opinion) could be the events Layo is laking :D

If something alike happens, is once in a while and it has not been "dug" I'd guess :P but I believe there is a lot of potential in this.

NOTE: I'm not complaining at all! Just stating space for improvement :P

Implemented Ideas / Controlled PvP Duel system -Already Implemented
« on: October 16, 2010, 07:29:00 pm »
Hi!

I hope I'm posting this in the right place *scratches head*

The other day someone mentioned something about PvP... well I thought it over onto this:

Controlled PvP Duel system: players (alone or parties) can defy players to PvP in a controlled environment (arena). This can include a betting system (players that will duel AND players who assist the duel) can place bets! This way you can minimally attract people that enjoy PvP to Layo without damaging the system. RP motives to start a duel can range all possibilities (settle "disagreements", just for fun, by the need/vice of betting, etc.). The duels should be mediated in the sense that there is a superior authority present (NPC) that makes sure nobody dies (or if it does is resurrected). The bets should be registered so there are no exploits. There could be duel modes (for instance: no magic duel, or only magic duel, or whatever)

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / I had a dream...
« on: October 16, 2010, 11:06:01 am »
... for me and I believe for the large community of ORPG players...

Imagine the following:

- Persistent self-developed world: everything is cause-effect based and the world generates its own stories. This means if castle A is destroyed it won't be up again within hours or days... only if someone actually rebuilds it and yet won't be the same instance. And means that there won't be two players with the same "unique" weapon from a certain BGB (bad guy bob). NPCs should be intelligent to their level (artificial intelligence already allows SO MUCH more) and actually take action in the world by themselves. For instance suddenly there is a scheduled goblin avalanche for a certain day/time that the server generates alone and the server monitor team can then supervise but the players just see it almost as if each of those goblins was a PC and not an NPC.

- Literal freedom of movement and world area state change: jump, fly, swim, climb, spin, pass walls, dig, modify landscape (scorch, destroy, bury, water, etc) AND fight by ourselves "as a choice" (still under the 6 seconds interval D&D based way). Wouldn't you love an arcane fight in the sky?!?! Or creating Prying Eyes (d&d spell) and ACTUALLY see many places at the same time controlling the eyes!!!

- Full D&D range of possibilities and open source code: D&D is the masterpiece in complexity where you can both make a pure fighter in 2 minutes and go hack'n'slash like some players love to or you can spend more time out of game  then in game planning development of characters or whatever. The races, sub-races and classes scope range is gratifyingly valuable!!! NWN1 is yet only a flavor of this (and same goes for the epic fail NWN2) and in my opinion, after 9 years of playing... it gets really low on possibilities. The open source would allow player-side development though still controlled by the MMOSP (mmo service provider :P ).

These three factors are pillars to sustain a NEW BRUTAL NWN. I just wish Bioware had eyes for this... it's not only my wish but it would fulfill every single user's requirements. Like NWN1, it should sustain different kinds of servers... RP oriented... Action oriented... and Arena oriented.

Turn NWN into a cloud computed d&d based persistent worlds MMO and add this three pillars I have mentioned (along with a good range of graphic possibilities) and WoW will find its end soon enough.

Oh... if I only had a development team and financial support... I'm telling you there is a big juicy space in the market for this!!!

DDO is so badly limited :S... Other MMOs are so restricted as well (WoW, Lineage, AION, etc.) and far from D&D's polished and well recognized status.

And there is technology and knowledge enough to build an amazingly powerful business engine under this!

Donations always work nice, specially if in a MMO scale...
And one could allow the public (as small companies) to host their own servers and build their own business within decent contracts from the MMOSP. The MMOSP would still have its own servers/worlds running. The public servers would be as development ground for freelancers (take CEP for example and all kinds of modding)... allowing the game to grow "outside though still within" the MMOSP.

I had a dream...

Poetic License / Few songs I've composed...
« on: October 16, 2010, 10:17:34 am »
As a hobby I play guitar and sing :P prefer to compose or improvise over blues backtracks then to just learn covers, which I find boring and uncreative.

So I'm "dumping" here a few lyrics from songs I made when I was between 14-16... if you really like the lyrics I can email you the songs recorded in studio just for the fun of sharing :) (only first was mastered, rest is just raw me and the guitar :P)

I'll put later the newest ones I've made, although those were as gifts to my girlfriend so they drop the dreamer scenario and enter a more romantic real scene... still mystic though.

Enjoy and comment!

Here it goes
--->

Fight the Tide

The chains of freedom bind me to the ground
A nature's rule with age is the cage that I found
Echoes the voice of nothing like a thunder in the sky
I see just an empty space, the perfect place, for me to fly

No one can fight the tide forever
No one can fight the tide forever

With a glimpse of reason I can break the iron proud,
Nothing else except the dream to where I go is aloud
To know not what to seek is the same as being dead
You need a light to lead the troubles that live in your head

No one can fight the tide forever
No one can fight the tide forever

A touch of irony is the key to the final road
But our minds can not bear a major life load
Without a hope we still search for the same end
But it stays beyond the reach of our mortal’s hand

No one can fight the tide forever
No one can fight the tide forever
No one
No one
No one

------------------------------------------------

Across the seven suns

Across the seven suns we go
In a life guided by the dream, I know
It is an endless quest
The greatest test to what we learn

To seek the endless light and walk the pass away
That splits the rising night and the ending day
Lost in a mind fever I drift with what I see
I don’t follow the river but the river follows me

Echoes a royal sunset
Over a quiet sea
Telling me to forget
And to let everything free

To seek the suns light and walk the pass away
That splits the rising night and the ending day
Lost in a mind fever I drift with what see
I don’t follow the river but the river follows me

------------------------------------------------

Winter Thought

A silence footstep stays
Between light winter grays
A tree calls for fire
A lost strange desire
Nearby a frozen lake
The surface is fake
It will meltdown soon
To shine with another moon

A flyby irony
A shortwave fantasy
Reality fades in the eye
Of the lonely cyclopes
Unarmed of hope
A tear drops from the night sky

A storm of reason
A better prison
Then a season of lies
The dream will never
Last forever
Where the tear dries

A soft spring call
An harmless winter fall
Nature takes a new disguise
Search again for paradise
The clouds release the sun
Who starts a greater run
To feed its endless pride
...
Until the change of tide

A flyby irony
A shortwave fantasy
Reality fades in the eye
Of the lonely cyclopes
Unarmed of hope
A tear drops from the night sky

A storm of reason
A better prison
Then a season of lies
The dream will never
Last forever
Where the tear dries

Ask A Gamemaster / Path of Elemental Balance and The Way of the Wind
« on: December 11, 2009, 02:24:42 pm »
Path of Elemental Balance and The Way of the Wind

"Weapons: No preference but if any are used, it would be a smaller weapon. Ranged weapons are commonly used. Enchantments of Electric only."

What about sonic? I find sonic more related to air and speed then electric... no?
Electric is like acid... it's not an element, just something that Nature wields.

(is this the right place to post this :P?)
