Mazes and Monsters was the Original "D&D" movie.  Way before Tom Hanks was Famous.

Honestly this is a little too much like World of Warcraft.  Since I took out the Smelting Tradeskill I would not think this would fit well into Layonara either.

I was thinking more of the lines of:

Helm of the Cafeteria Chef
(Mace) Spoon of the Head Chef

or the Dreaded:

Band of the Mother in Law

When I started doing Infusing, I played around with the ability to "Recharge" a crafted wand.  That way you could reuse the wand instead of tossing it away.

Maybe this would be a good fit for this.  However, if you use the last "Charge" the golem goes away for good. aka Last sacrifice.  The recharge gems could be as cheap or as expesive as we needed them to be.  The power of CNR...

Vulcano's 3E Crafting
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=scripts.Detail&id=2088

This is a crafting system that does what you want it too.  Granted I thought that crafting this way takes forever.  You have to spend skill points in crafting so you can make the high end items.  It limits the stuff you can make, and well pushes the limits of character creation to do some items.

Taking feats to do some crafitng.  I think that it goes the extream otherway.

So, I guess the real questions is what do you really want?  You need to balance Fun / realism for crafting.

BTW:  No mass creation here.  It will take days to create Items, even longer and XP and Feats to create items that you really want to use.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / RE: Not just saying CNR sucks

Greetings,

Gathering CNR items.  Well that was the way it was done when the designers created it.  Layonara has modified it somewhat, it is not perfect but you still have to deal with the NWN script engine.

Hrnac and Festyx created CNR and I honestly don't know what if anything they are doing at the moment.  I did use some code to modify it from another system that would give you a chance to create an exceptional item.  Which takes the code further away from the standard version that you would download from the NWN vault.

Market Value for all items.  Issue here is that this is not a pen and paper game.  A player can play massive amounts of time.  That will make him a wealthy person if he sold everything thing he could find.  To balance the world you really need to somewhat limit the amount of gold in the system and in the world.  You really don't want a character wipe every few months years.  But there are some people that have made a huge fortune and have way more money than anyone should.  But we had no way to remove money from the game on a consistant basis.

So to answer your question sure something could be done.  But it really boils down to time and resources. When we start looking at Layonara (what I would call Version 3) using the NWN2 engine people are going to have to develop and test a whole lot more items.

That really is not a deterent.  Heck with all of the Bags that reduce weight it really doesn't matter.  They only weigh a fraction of the weight.  That would just be a minor weight issue.

Back in the day.  Traps were abused.  Certain people laid way to many of them and were killing creatures way above what they should have been killing.  Trap Crafting is good for Role Playing Purposes but not to be used for excessive placement.

Well I have offered to assist.  I just took an extended leave.  And well to get me back up to speed is too much work.  But I am planning on buying NWN2.  When that is out I plan on flushing out Infusing for everyone.

To be honest.  When I started doing Infusing way back when.  The issue was that I ran out of time.  I never really flushed it out the way I wanted too.  At that point I was doing stuff and other parts in the module were needing more assistance than infusing at the time.

The problem with CNR is that once you hit a certain level you never fail.

Another Part of this and I have seen the benifits is to make some items non craftable.  Thus when you go to make the item you need to spend gold on the item.  This removes some money from the economy and helps to get it out of the system.

When we discuss the CNR for NWN2 I will suggest more items that cost gold so that it removes money from the economy.

When Bioware added the Poison function in the game I wanted to add it to CNR.  The problem is that they only added a very few different types of poison.  (Granted I thought there was more) They did if you played with it in the Demo module you could get permanent poison.  But the problem is that the poison only affects Stats.  After I implemented the CNR Poison Module I took a little leave of absence.  With the release of NWN2 I think I will help them revamp the poison section and move forward.  But it might make sence to change it up making the poisons more generic vs the way they are now.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Re: Scrolls for use as ingredients
« on: May 16, 2006, 06:54:42 am »
Truthfully,

A High level scroll needed for a high level Armor Crafitng of Weapon crafting might add some flare in crafting.

When I started infusing it was to add wand crafting to the game.  What I did not want to happen was power leveling through the crafting levels.  I also thought it was cool that you had to learn certain spells to make items.  Thus it limited who could make the items.  It all comes down to balance.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Re: Thoughts on mangled metals
« on: May 04, 2006, 06:37:53 am »
It has been a while since I even thought about this question.

When I started balancing all of the different types of metals I made a choice to only give back so much mangeled metal.  Then I also made a choice that you could not take a completed work and destroy it.

When you look deep into the code of CNR there is only so much you can do with it.  You can only have 1 bi-product returned.  I know in Potion Making it is a vial being returned.

But it is an issue with how the code was originially done.  Wood had Sawdust as a biproduct.  When I made the Musical Instrament add on I must have just missed it.

It would not be that hard to "finish" that system.  Just takes time.
