Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Question About Shadowdancers
« on: April 05, 2007, 12:40:21 pm »
Quote from: Gulnyr
I disagree with that interpretation, because shadows provide concealment and the Shadowdancer has to be close to (or within) a shadow to gain benefits.

I agree with the latter, but not the former.  A Shadowdancer -does- have to be close to a shadow to gain benefits.  Within 10 feet, as it states in the description.  However, being within 10 feet of a shadow does not imply having concealment.  Something of a mystic ability to draw closer, if you will, limited to that range.

For a more IC note, I have always envisioned my character as reaching out and using her skills and training to effectively wrap herself in whatever shadows were to hand in order to obscure herself from visibility.  Sort of a brief "skin" of blackness before effectively poofing out of sight.  My feeling is that Shadowdancing is best seen as a reach above and beyond mundane hiding, using a supernatural effect to gain the skill necessary to hide where others who do not have such training are unable to do so.  A well-lit road with no landmarks nearby, obviously not, but a road on an overcast day with a number of trees casting distinct shadows?  I find that quite possible.

Hellblazer, LORE is correct in that the perform requirement from PnP has been changed to a Tumble requirement in NWN, due to perform being a skill restricted to bards.  If you already have Uncanny Dodge II, then I believe you will receive Uncanny Dodge III (but I am not entirely certain).

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Question About Shadowdancers

Clarifying HiPS, copied directly from the SRD Shadowdancer :: d20srd.org

"A shadowdancer can use the Hide skill even while being observed. As long as she is within 10 feet of some sort of shadow, a shadowdancer can hide herself from view in the open without anything to actually hide behind. She cannot, however, hide in her own shadow." (emphasis mine)

Shadowdancers, do not, in fact, require cover or concealment according to this passage.  The Hide in Plain Sight ability is labelled for shadowdancers as (Su) which means it is actually a supernatural, nearly magical effect.

Fixed Bugs / Re: Honey
« on: April 01, 2007, 11:52:13 pm »
Was it honey you obtained from a CNR spawn point, or from a monster?  I have found the latter to occasionally drop the older inedible honey from time to time.  Alternatively, it is possible that the spawn point you collected from is providing the wrong honey.  Or possibly even the "property-less item" bug rearing its head again.  I know that within the past couple of days, I've collected honey with my characters and it was quite edible.  If you could be more specific as to where you located the honey in a PM so as to avoid sharing CNR locations, that would be helpful. :)

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Take to the Air in Fey Form
« on: March 30, 2007, 01:31:49 pm »
The problem with what you're suggesting is that it sets a precedent.  Everyone with a flying familiar is going to want their familiar to be able to take to the air as well.  There just isn't the time available to devote to redoing every familiar and every potentially-flying polymorph or shapechange.

The component for this spell is indeed available at some magic vendors.

Fixed Bugs / Re: Shifting and Spell Loss
« on: March 27, 2007, 09:29:56 pm »
After observing how spell slots are granted and then summarily used up via a wizard's spellbook with all the same spell in the slots, I determined that it's due to the fact that while spells are used up from left to right, new slots are granted at the rightmost end of the slots.  Which means that whenever you lose a slot for any reason, unless you've already cast all of the spells from that spell level, you're losing an unused slot.

General Discussion / Re: clerics and summons.
« on: March 23, 2007, 03:21:38 pm »
Since this is kind of on-topic, in PnP, the Planar Ally/Planar Binding series of spells, as well as Gate, are calling, not summoning spells.  Which means that indeed, with those spells the specified creature is called each time.  Is this fact also true of Layonara, or are they to be considered a glorified summon spell?

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Soulstrands, a suggestion.
« on: March 17, 2007, 08:55:13 am »
I'm sure I've said this before, but I feel that the loss of strands and eventual permanent end to a character's active presence on Layonara is necessary.  There are those players out there who would just accumulate needlessly and endlessly and no longer contribute meaningfully to the community.  I'm not going to mention any names, but I feel that there are some who do this already.
With the reality of actual, permanent death as an eventuality, it means that you actually have to want to make an impact before your character bites it.  For a prime example of what I'm speaking of, just take a step into the Arms and have yourself a look at the Tribute to the Norseman.  Now that, my friends, is an example of permanent death done right.

Yardislan Echron, and we've got the same availability.

Blackguards do not have to be LE.  Whether the NE gods would sponsor blackguards is the real question, though.

Wild Surge Inn / RE: Posted near the docks in Fort Vehl

*the following is written with a practiced hand, though strained for speed and outrage*

Sign your misinformation fool, that I may know who I counterargue.  You choose to state that the current state of the world is a result.  I was there at the Bloodwell.  The cold, the dark, the hunger is paradise compared to what Bloodstone would have had this world become.  This age will end as the soot and dust in the skies returns to the ground.  There is hope to live for.  Bloodstone's reign, should he have managed to gain enough of a stranglehold to take command of the world entire would have been that much harder to bring to a downfall.  Until you venture to the islands formerly of the kingdom known as Roldem, hold your pen stilled.  For there is a place truly touched by Blood's wrath, and wrested from it.  One may say that you live comfortably by comparison on the lands of Mistone.  Make yourself known and I shall escort you personally.

Many lives were lost in the struggle that you might live to speak in such a way about those who fell.  All I might do is shake my head in sadness that the ignorance is so great of what events truly came to pass, obscured by the time that has gone by.

I have been spoken of as among the "Dragoncalled," but my acts were following a higher path than mere summons.  I did what I felt, nay, believed right.  If this world is dark and cold and hungry, it is that much further from the endless misery that Sinthar Bloodstone would have you live.  Curse indeed.  You have been saved from far worse.

General Discussion / Re: Whirlwind attack... how does it work?
« on: February 27, 2007, 06:58:28 pm »
Slightly incorrect.  Whirlwind attack only offers an attack on anything within five feet.  It is improved Whirlwind attack that allows an attack on anything in weapon range.
