Development Journals and Discussion / Re: Memoirs of a lore keeper

Journal entry 22

Today I arrived back in Hlint after an extended absence. Must was spent back in the singing forest and my late uncles tower. I have been looking into the history and prophesy Ozy left me with. I have passed the prophesy out as I traveled as he asked long ago, but I know not if it has done any good.

I have also continued to research song magic or harmonics, as well as the odd dream. More recently I journeyed with a group thru the Grey Peaks and met a fell end against a large group of Ogre. I did meet a few stalwart adventures that offered to assist me in returning to the spot I fell to reconcile the soul.  With their aide we made it back to the spot I fell and then on to Lar before returning to Hlint.

I also meet a sea elf that does not appear to speak any of our known languages. I really must brush up on some of the lesser used languages who know what history she may hold.

Today Lirulzk arrived back in Hlint or at least the vicinity. Cautious and unsure if any would remember her after so great an absence she approached the city gates. Within Lirulzk found little had changed of the town itself, it had a new group of adventures however all the important city figures still retained their posts. And with small effort they remembered Lirulzk. After checking in with the bard Lirulzk found her still in need of assistance. Lirulzk quickly set about proving her self again to the town people and her fellow adventures.

Lirulzk made several run upon the crypts of Hlint eventually besting the shadow beast in the depths. She also met fellow adventurer who has no recollection of her past though she seems to be a formidable pugilist, most likely a monk of some order. Kira I believe her name is assisted in the recovery of the bard’s property earning Lirulzk the right of staying in the inn and not having to sleep in the forests around Hlint.

Lirulzk has found mining to be quite popular and has begun assisting the mining party on their journey and providing protection. Especially against the ogre of Haven. Recently she ventured to Fort Llast and has begun the journey of proving herself they’re as well. She had quite the heroic struggle against a will o wisp in the swamps for a mage of Fort Llast who forgot to mention that only magic could harm the wisp. Stubborn and more then a bit orcish mentality she refused to quit the battle and finally wore the wisp out of magic and was able to repeatedly strike the wisp hard enough to inflict some damage and bounce it off the ground surrounding the swampy water killing it more with will power then her weapons.

Latter returning with the amnesiac monk to find another wisp as well as a witch woman of the swamp. Not all the people or Hlint or Fort Llast accept Lirulzk nor do all her fellow adventures how ever she is making great progress and has an ever widening circle of peers and acceptance. Lirulzk has also recently met a cleric of Az’atta who seemed to be more then a bit shaken but seems a nice chap otherwise.

Its pry deleted its been awhile, more like 6 months I was just without internet for 3 months when I got the internet back then my computer started acting up and eventualy died and had to be resurected. It just took forever due to work and other real life issues at the same time. I can start over its not a issue I'll just have to come up with a new character conscept, but thats one of the best parts of Role Playing creating the character and making it live so that you can RP it with others.

I like it for a few reasons. One it reminds me that thier is a populated city full of life that we just don't see not just the few lushes in the bar and a handfull of adventurers. It also reminds me of Dorina(sp?) the Inn greeters sister who Aeyl was part of the quest that searched for her, because the sound is a bit creepy and I think of it as her ghost still playing in the street around the inn. Just my 2 copper.

First we'll need the ability to travel faster then light - which really, I belive to be extremely possible - faster not so sure, the speed of light itself..definetly.  Traverse the stars, and given the size and nature of the universe coupled with the fact that it's expanding the probability of life outside us is extremely likely.  We need to see time as a variable comprising of three components...past - this can never be retrieved in my opinion unless through interdimensional weaving, present, and future (which for all intents and purposes doesn't exist yet).  Only if antitime exists will time travel be possible.  I haven't kept up with the current literature to know the present status or feelings on that one.

How ever Einstein proved that if you send matter at the speed of light it ceses to exist, ie matter breaks down at the speed of light. If time travel is possible it will need to be handeled much like a warp drive in star trek by circumventing the limitation of normal space and time travel. And the best theory is that time travel would be via the multiverse you travel "back" to a diffrent multiverse then your own one where you did exist at that time more of a linear jump across dimential boundries. Also their is no "time" or "antitime" time is more of a concept in science for why everything doesn't happen at once, much like the ehter of the past. And minor time travel is possible in that we can slow time by moving an object at high speeds. Shown via the atomic clock on a supersonic jet and on on the ground the one on the jet will "lose time" during the same period of operation as the one remaining on the ground.
I like time travel but Schrodinger's cat is way more fun IMHO.  ;)

EDIT PS on the multiverse or alter dimensions Kaluza-Klein have some interesting work that seems to prove the sxistance of a 5th dimension. Their conclusion.  You can search for the theory and physics online if you really care to see it.
"The classical and quantum motion of probes over the 5-dimensional space-time, predict the manifestation of quantised electric charges and the electron mass spectrum values corresponding to the experimental accuracy available in 4-dimensional space-time, electron states are a manifestation of the 5-dimensional geometry unifying gravity and electromagnetic forces. Therefore, such classical and quantum motion criteria indicate the presence of the fifth dimension as a compact extra dimension of Planck radius at each point of 4-dimensional space-time, confirming beyond any doubt the physical existence of the fifth dimension as postulated by O. Klein. The physical structure of the 5-dimensional space-time proposed by the Kaluza-Klein unification is not anymore a mere theoretical assumption, and the criteria set the first step towards string and brane theory experimental verifications."

Just for Fun / RE: Names, Where Do They Come From?
« on: July 26, 2005, 09:12:00 am »
Screen name Xerina the femine version of my NWN login name Xerum, a old name from my PnP campaign. It is the wizard that in my world is allot like Elminster only more excessable to the average person.

CHaracter names
Real name given at birth: Seh’spar Ariliaeden (Soft fist Mistress of silver autum)
Called by family: ErN`aer Poldora (One without strength)
Called by village: Aneunyiraw ed kuruni (Touched by the curse) mean
Called by village: Nost en’ Hrive (Born of Winter) nicer
All come from elvish: Some is Tolken elvish some is D&D elvish.

My Orc
As a human I was called Lillian Rodgers. As a orc I go by the name Lirulzk kind of a orc sounding combo of her human name.

Aelayenn Hathwaynn I think I got this from one of the random elvish name generators I use online.

ANd for a good elvish dictionary http://myth-drannor.net/DlabraddathNet/z-Cormanthyr/languages.htm It has D&D elvish and some great links to tolken elvish.

Teefal well I am in the 50+ post group. I think you have some good points thier are a few gray areas on where to post stuff inthe forum, but for posting you can put it in general, but finding it I usualy default to search before I even try to dig thru the forums as it may well be on page 2+.

I like the forums in general and find it far better then many forums for NWN or other games.  I also like the idea of having a forum to respond to the char development thread. I suppose you could post something in the Inn but its more of a patch or bandaid approach. I for one wouldn't really care if others posted in Aelayenns posts, but on the other hand their is no real way to post in my other two characters posts one is recorded in a personnel diary, and the other is recorded by her master via magic.

I have read a few and thought of some responces for people I played thru their post with in game. But the char development is really a personnel tracking system of your characters observations.  I really thought about just editing my character logs for my new character as it is being magicly recorded, but it would be way to long unless I kept it somewhere with just a link to each log. And its hard to keep responces to others CD thread in character because you typicaly have no access to their memory or diary etc.

Roleplaying / RE: you and your character
« on: July 25, 2005, 01:55:00 pm »
I was just thinking about this myself the other day.  I just started a new character and I went fighter and a orc I have never played an orc and it sounded like a fun challange. Reguardless of how much people like drow and forget about the war orcs are right out side Hlint and attack anything they see. But I didn't want the generic fighter my partents were killed I was raised by kind humans so I'm a good orc.

Thinking of the character creation process I realized all my characters share common thread. All my characters have been touched by magic, most in a negative way. Even my old magic users were touched by magic in almost a cursed way.

As far as developing my characters I have a simple but indetph method. Ok sort of indetph. I have some basic questions I try to answer that form the basic guiding principles that form a responcive personality. Such as the blank form below

Parents living or dead? One or both:
How did they respond to parents? : .

Family size and age range?: Oldest/youngest
How is he/she viewed by the family?:
How did the family get where they are and how long have they been their?:

How does the community react to the family?:

Liked or disliked?:
Characters response?:

Friends and companions?:
Now the friends and companions won’t matter in NWN just PnP, but even in NWN it lets you think of some characteristics and responces. Do you like animals, are you friendly, antisocial etc.

Then a life shaping event or important event

If I am really stuck for an idea i sometimes turn to the NPC generator and spin it a few dozen times to see what comes up on the wizards of the coast website, it follows the same format as above. Its the format from the "hero builders guidebook" their are also plenty of other random character/npc generators on the net if you search for them. Under articles on the WotC website are some character ideas for each class that can jump start the imagination.

I like to form a concept and background that not only gets me a character and reason to be a adventurer at level 1 but a over reaching goal or story that will carry me to 20 or more. I make sure that it is flexable to fit into the world but strong enough that the storyline will not completly eclipse my personnel goal. My goals may or may not have anything to do with Blood and his war.

Then I look over the story I wrote based onthe ideas from my outline, and form a basic personality from that, I give myself some traits and responces, think up how I will talk based on race and int. ANd I take that print it off once approved along with my alignment and the alignment breakdown and keep it handy in game to remind me of important things while I get into and use to my character.

I have 3 characters 1 main one pure RP that can't fight her way out of a wet paper sack but is great for chatting up people in town. And my new Orc fighter that I am still trying to get into, but she has been fun so far. I try to stir up a bit of trouble with her because she is not the smartest person you will meet but she is smart for a orc, but distrustful of people unless you follow Az'atta then she will follow you like a faithful hound if you let her. For me the hardest part of multiple characters is remembering who you know and don't know and who each character likes or don't like. ANd staying in character for that character esp if you swap chars part way thry the session.

Yes you can go to the nwn vault and down load the HoUD voiceset that unlocks all the OC voicesets in game, since all these are normal NWN voicesets they will all work. THeirs not a blank once persay, but if you go with a animal or int 3 monster all you will have are the fighting ouf ug, swiah sounds.  I use to play a follower of Sune in a FG server and I used the voiceset of White Therse from Inn bacause she mentions Sune and all that, I lost allot of voice chat commands because she doesn't have them being a NPC, but you can use this to cut out voice commands.

I think the medusa voiceset is pretty blank and humanlike in sounds, but I might be thinking of the wrong voiceset) I love the child voiceset for halflings, and some of the planer beigns for tieflings os assimer

PS to any drow players their is also a voice command for drow that is all in drow no common also fun, but more useful for drow that like other drow or are not smart enough to master a second language. IE they can speak common if they have time to think but in the heat of combat they revert to drow.

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=hakpaks.Detail&id=135

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=hakpaks.Detail&id=204   This is my favorite but they all do the same thing
http://nwvault.ign.com and just search for voicesets, just make sure the voiceset is a default of the game noit a created hak. ANy standard voiceset will work because it already exists in NWN.

Today Lirulzk arrived in Hlint a small town in the center of Milstone.  She dreamed of a dragon calling her to join the fight against the army of Blood. I am proud of her she has carried on the ideals of protecting the weak and defenseless so well that a dragon has taken notice.

Upon arriving in Hlint she set about to prove herself to the population and make friends to help defend the weak against Blood.  She quickly met Ayla, Glokk, and Drake, together they gathered supplies and setoff to the Sielwoods to gather spider silk and copper.  Lirulzk bought a falchon and shield as well as a sling at the promting of the others who insisted that she have a range weapon for the woods.

Before leaving Hlint they came upon a little goblin who was terrified and Lirulzk stepped up to the wood elf that was terrifying the goblin who was just looking for wood. The wood elf was trying to offer the goblin food, weird I know but it seems that Hlint is a town of diversity and tolerance. After ensuring the goblin was safe Lirulzk, Ayla, Glokk, and Drake set off to the woods.

IN the woods they met Asher, who was also hunting beetles. With Asher they gathered some silk and copper from a near by cave full of kobolds. Before returning to Hlint to split up the recovered gold and copper.

After returning to Hlint Lirulzk set off to meet many of the towns prominent citizens and try to prove herself to them by helping them and generally being useful. No job is to small or tedious for her to use to prove herself.
