General Discussion / Re: You Will Be Missed

I've just re-written this time and time again trying to find the words. I shall long remember his ready wit and generous spirit. A great RP'ing partner and a good friend, the world is lessened by his passing.  Somehow, the wind seems colder tonight...

If all else fails, quit out of NWN, change the port number in the INI file, save, and then set the file to Read Only!

If something is resetting it, this should throw a spanner in its works ;)

Dream jobs are few and far between, congratulations and good luck indeed!

You will be missed. Elladan's favourite Voraxian (!) made an impression that will endure.

To quote Dave Allen: "May your Gods go with you"

//in a neat, measured hand

My friends,

Lest we judge each other too harshy for words written here, think for a moment of the pain suffered by those who will now never see the physical manifestation of their love as they had longed to. Such pain may make fools of the strongest of us, may it not?

It is true, that one result of Aeridin's actions is that those of us of mixed race may no longer bear children - and that no more of mixed race shall be born. However, I ask you this:
The Lifegiver has always been a source of healing an light in this world. He teaches us to spread healing as best we can, with an even hand. From the warrior who suffers a sword blow, to a child who falls from a tree, many seek out his clergy for a healing that is freely given and well trusted.
Would this God knowlingly inflict such suffering upon the peoples of this world, if the alternative were not far worse? It was to save us all from a foul corruption that this was done and, while the price may be high, the price of inaction was higher.

Do not forget, we are but mortal. It is not always given to us in this life to know or understand the thoughts of the Gods. I shall, and have, weep for those children that cannot be, but I shall give thanks to Aeridin that countless other children were spared the touch of the Corruption.

Walk in the Light, my friends, and find what solace and healing you may.

Elladan Peters

Layonara Server / Re: The Legacy - Tonight's session

*nips in at lunch time*

I spotted Milty's quest conflicted, but didn't have a chance to check the signups for any conflicts :(

As much as I'd hate to, Milty has prior claim to the time slot, so if we have a overlap, I'll give way to him.
Unfortunately, DMOE is correct. Pressures of RL really mean that Saturday night is the only chance I have to get setup done in time to run - so if we had to move, it would pretty much have to be pushed back another week..

It looks that way, ystrday. At least 3 can't make it this week - so it looks like a no-brainer!
I'll update the calendar entry accordingly. Actually, I'll wait 'till I get home THEN update the calendar - just in case ;)

@Pinkpowerbait
     Can you make it the following week?
@everyone else - could you?

I'd rather hold off for one week and have everyone there, than run and have people miss out...

*A lone figure stolls by the noticeboard, his white cloak parting to reveal the armour underneath it; burnished silver plates, with an unusual green foliate pattern.
A plain yew staff is strapped across his back, but as he reads the notice one hand clenches around the hilt of a longsword at his side.

He spins on his heels and strides to the doorway, and can be seen mounting a white horse, to ride in the direction of Folians' Vale*

The traditionalist in me cannot resist but point out that a Layonara Statue Mile is pretty darn close to being 1 League.

Sorry L, the tempation was too strong ;)

The "/o L" option is great, as Stephen says it doesn't spam the DM channel - and such things are often appreciated !

Be aware though, that this can also be a disadvantage. If you're on a quest, using the "/dm [text here]" variant means that the GM can understand what you are saying no matter what creature he/she happens to be possessing at the time! This can be an advantage ;)

Ouch! Hope you're recovered soon - but don't rush it, bones need time to heal, usually plenty of it!

How about some old school "hard" SF?
  "The Forever War": J[SIZE=-1]oe Haldeman
              - So, just what are the ramifications of relativity in an Interstellar war?
Day of the Triffids- John Wyndham
              - good, old fashioned End of the World stuff

On the fantasy side, try the Taltos books by Stephen Brust

For a healthy Son and Daughter; a partner dumb enough to put up with me; and the ability to keep 'em all fed and warm with a roof over their heads.

Oh, and good whisky ;)

Possibly the best choice, Milty. The fact that this means I don't have to miss it has no bearing on my opinion, of course ;)

General Discussion / Re: I can not get NWN to work anymore...
« on: September 14, 2007, 02:46:54 pm »
I am sorry to say this is currently a major problems for may NWN players out there, myself included. To cut a long story short, Nvidia made a change in their drivers which "broke" the opening menus.
You can find the full details on Boiware's forums here Neverwinter Nights: Black Screen when launching Neverwinter Nights (Forceware Driver Issue)

To summarise, the solution depends on your model of graphics card, "The current solution for Windows XP users (Using a GeForce 8000 series card) is to roll back to Forceware version 97.94 .

Windows XP users (not using am 8000 series card) can solve the issue by rolling back to 97.27
Windows Vista users (6000, 7000 and 8000 series cards) can
resolve this issue by installing the ForceWare 163.11 (Beta Drivers) which support the 6000, 7000 and 8000 series cards. A Windows XP version of these drivers is forthcoming."

Of course, rolling back your drivers that far will have an effect on other games you may wish to play (bye bye Bioshock, for example!). Workarounds suggested include changing your game resolution to match your desktop resolution, minimising and restoring the game at the menu screen or, (as some have suggested) clicking around hopefully!

Of course, we could all just install Linux instead?    ;)

Oh and yes, it does cause major problems for the DM client......
