General Discussion / Re: A question to those who know D&D

So, to make this more clear (or to confuse it even more), what you're saying is that, i.e...five years ago I save an old woman from a bear...how would my life be different if, let's say, I fed her and her little dog to the bear.  One of those, if I could only change the past, and poof, it happened but not like you expected...kinda.  If your past actions shape you, expactly how bent would you be if you did the above?

If I'm following the right concept in any way, then you would have to re-think every event after whatever event it was that changed, up until the present.

Anyway, not sure if I caught the right concept.

I know this is getting off topic, but I want to chime in; when the Bazaar was added to Everquest, and everyone had a mule they could park and forget about with all their stuff for sale, two things happened; one, the human factor was totally removed from the game.  Characters used to have one zone (mainly...EC anyone?) to shout out their wares, and deal directly with individuals.  People had to interact.  Two, the economy tanked, hard.  Price wars were common and ugly.

What I'm saying is that it would be EXACTLY like a flea market, If you ain't there to sell your wares, then your wares don't get sold.

However I think setting up a Hlint Yard Sale (Maybe with the premission of the house owners behind the houses of Hlint because that place is there, and yet no one really knows) put on the calander perhaps once every two weeks so people can gather and sell their goods.

That's also a great idea.  It's almost the same as a flea market but more like that huge yard sale that happens over here (start in Alabama and head north about 800 miles) every year...it's called the worlds largest yard sale.

Don't get me wrong, on WoW you can buy and sell things without even being online...while that's pretty cool, it takes away from the reality of it...if you walk in a store and no one is there, you take something and leave the money on the table, you get arrested for shoplifting and that money was there before you got there.  Simply, if you're not there, you can't buy or sell anything.

Anyway, as Leanther said, scripting most of this would take more time than cost feesable...Maybe we could hint at this getting tossed into Layo2?  *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

My two cents...well, four cents...

First, Drizzlin & Chongo, 'nough's 'nough, whether it's put nicely or said flattly, it's cool.  Oh, Drizzlin---"I think when monthly chest wipes start occuring, so should monthly wipes of xps, gold, and any equipment you are not wearing. If you don't get that level within a month of when you started it...you don't deserve it anyway. I hope people can see how rediculous that sounds. To address what Lilswanwillow said, I have never made, nor will make, a paladin or good aligned PC. So how about we remove the paladin class and all good aligned PCs made? Sound fair or reasonable? The lag monster will be tackled when there are less PCs in play with the removal of the goodies and paladins. It sounds as fair as your argument that "just because I don't, everyone else shouldn't either"."---I've never laughed so hard.  :)

Second, some of us don't like the 'join the guild' idea.  It's one of those things we bring to Layo from RL, you know "Fight the power" kind'a deal.  My character (god help her, I haven't played in a while due to computer problems) crafts, she's not a great crafter...ok, she's not even a good crafter and her level is soooo low, well, she's better at fishing.  She crafts just because she likes to.  She'll craft a dozen robes and usually ends up dumping them in the trash.  It's her hobby.  Somewhere in one of these threads I read where everyone who crafts should join a guild is why I'm stating this...what would be the point in my character joining a guild?  She rarely has money, so that cuts out on the guild getting any dues out of her and her skill is so low you'd have to dig a hole to see the top of it, so that rules out...well, crafting in general.

As what idea was brought in a looong time ago (look at the first 9 or so threads), have something like a flea market.  You buy a stall, it holds 2 chests and a small storefront.  You can keep whatever you like in the chests (one for finished products and one for the 'not yet made' stuff) and it's yours.

***LAYO'S FIRST STRIP MALL!***
*When Layo-mart is to far of a walk-
and the horse just broke it's last leg-
stop by the Layo Flea Market!
We have what Layo-mart won't stoop to sell!*

I could go on, but I won't.  Just my 4 cents.

Just a little update...
He has unofficially had 18 pints of blood--he's over 2 new people.
He is stablizing more and more every day.  His blood preasure is begining to stablize itself, so he might not need anymore blood.
They go in every 48 hours to clean out where he had internal bleeding and as of Sunday there was no more infection...I haven't heard about today.
As it stands, he's doing a lot better.

Thanks everyone!  As it stands, he's still stable.  While I didn't post the extent of his injuries, I can tell you that "stable" is amazingly great condition.

Thats great, Darkstorme.  You rock!

You know, even for those who sell their blood, there ain't nothing wrong with that.  If I could get $400 a pint, I'd donate twice a month.  There's no shame in it.

Whether you give freely or sell it, people who need it are still getting it, and that's what counts.

As for the hieroglypics - source, please? I searched online extensively, and found nothing.

I'll be honest here, I watched something...I want to say on the History channel, that was talking about Atlantis.  They only showed one set of hieroglyphics that showed a ringed city.  This only had a 3 minutes spot on the whole show; why so little time, I could only guess.

I love debates like this. :)

Darkstorme:
First, I know the difference between myths and legends, however, the majority allow them to fall under the same heading (fantasy).  That's where I was going with that.

Second, Thanks for the refference about Arthur and Myrddin (Merlin).  I was just using it as a point, and as you have shown, niether existed (if at all) during the same time period.  If the texts are taken as fact, then they did exist, as my point, but not anywhere near the time of one another.

As far as Atlantis, don't forget Hyrogliphics (probably not spelled right) that show the ringed city.  Though the name was not Atlantis, it is still described as the same city.  Atlantis is a really touchy story though; everyone thinks it existed in different places, and while there are examples of ocean bound volcanos erupting there way to utter destruction, no one is sure if there was a city on one.  Funny though, if Atlantis was on a volcano that blew itself to bits, how would one find any evidence that it existed other than stories.

While I do agree with your points, this post may have started out with me talking of dragons, it was meant for people to think not only of them though.  Somerwhere out there, lost in time, are facts that started these stories.  I say that it's unfair to dismiss them as completely untrue...not when they span through different cultures, continents, etc.

Too much is out there that we will simply never know.  I say it's good to keep an open mind about it.

As a side note...Loch Ness is a good story, and as I believe, just a story...that doesn't mean I'm right, just that I don't understand how it could have made it this long without being seen (by news crews, scientists, governments, and those nasty alien hunters who would probably disect it as soon as they swam up next to it).

NEXUS7...You worked on that????  Is it the one where they came up with how it was able to fly and breathe fire?  SWEET!!
Just for the record, had dragons ever truely existed, I do not believe they breathed fire nor flew.

Good catch, SuperMunch.  That's where I frist learned of it as well.

I don't doubt that there are creatures out there that were called dragons but were something else.  If it were the 1200's and I unearthed a t-rex skull, well, that's a dead dragon.  I mean, we used to believe in tree fairies; what would probably have just been a woodland tribe...or pimies.

However, it's kinda difficult to explain all the different civilizations, some from the same time periods, some from different, both coastal bound and land locked, that they would all come up with a generalized dragon figure.  Where most of the dragons have different bodies, just about all have the same head type.

While I won't put one real to myth legend here, it may quash a young generations dreams...I will put the name however, and most of us will know what I'm talking about (St. Nick).  He's real, end of story.

Everything has a basis in the RL.  Weather or not they were what we believed them to be, well, heaven only knows.

Darkstorme, you make many good points, ones I will argue/discuss later...family day and all.

Amber Mcduff, the first and only still living AD&D character I had.  First edition, she is a 6th level gnome assassign (highest a female gnome can be in 1st ed. rules).
I still have her character sheet, it's dated October 1992.  She now lives quietly in a hand drown world I created (over 2000 pages of overworld maps (100 octagonal miles, each one scaled down to 50 miles, then 25, then 10 then 5 then 1 mile octagons).
She runs a small bed and breakfast with a weapons shop on the side.

I'll edit this later and fill in the gaps (do postings have a word limit?)

Cool, but...before the color change, if I look at the dot, it looks in color anyway, even though it's in black & white.  Does that mean that my wiring is faulty (in my hed)?

And in his toybox in R'lyeah, dead Banjo lies dreaming...

Here's a question, though. Who would be the Bardic god of Layo? Ilsare?

Wha...What are you talking about....It's Banjo...BANJO THE CLOWN!!!!

Egypt’s Pharaoh - 8/17/2006 11:56 PM Very nice. I've been on a few servers where this kind of stuff, can get out of hand. I am very happy to have heard news of Sayonara, and become part of the community. This is the first server I've seen to address this issue. Well said!
Welcome to Layonara, bud. I agree with the above, but even if I see it, I kind of just ignore it. It doesn't really bother me too much. Then again it's hard to offend me, so who knows?
It's hard to offend me as well, but I've seen kids on here as young as 9...they don't need to be exposed to this, not by us at least.

First...I saw Creighton tonight....TYRIAN IS WITH CHILD!!!!!!!  I am so happy for them...They better both watch out.
I ran into someone named Dora in the Storan crypts.  She was very nice and pretty too.

After that, I ran into Creighton.  That's when he told me of Tyrians little package.  *smiles*  I'm so happy for them.  Then, after he left, I ran into Tyrian.  I guess she was feeling better; I've seen how morning sickness affects a woman and figured that's why I haven't seen her lately.
Unfotunatley, I wasn't feeling up to traveling...Having just died and just ran back to get to my grave.  That'll make your stomache churn.  I hope to see Tyrian again soon.  I want to talk to her sooooooo bad about her bundle of joy to be.

I also ran into Mylindra again.  I met her once before.  She is very pretty...I gave her a dress I had made.  I hope she likes it.  *blushes*  I think I'm coming out of my shell...I would never have gotten up the gaul to give away a dress before...it's....a very long story.....not tonight...I'm in a good mood.......too long of a story....

I met someone else who was talking to Mylindra, she was pretty to.  Then they cast a bunch of spells on me and the new girl helped me back to my grave...I never go her name though.

**Mother Goddess...Please, her my plea, keep Tyrian and Creighton safe.  Stay the hand of the Soul Mother....keep her away from them and their child.  I will gladly give up any soul strand I have to keep them safe.
You have watched over me since I left my home.  You have kept me safe and kept the touch of the Soul Mother away from my being....I now ask that you turn your protective hand away from me and place it over Creighton, Tyrian and their child to be.  I may need to be watched over, but they need it more...especially now.
Help all of my friends, watch over all of them...keep them safe...**

I haven't read all the posts, but I'd like to kick in my ten cents worth.

Just for ref:  In the original creation of D&D there were many gods but there was also AO, the "supreme creator" if you will.  Me and a buddy of mine got on this subject and I chuckled.  When he asked me what it was I found funny, I told him, "AO, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the one true God."
He was stunned with this response, "You know, I never even thought about that."  And he had played since first edition was new.

As for my ten cents worth:
I could see where a new deity could come into play, but that would take much more time than you would normally think.  A new god or goddess would have to get the word out.  Then the would be diety would have to wait it out and see if more followers hit the band wagon.  A god ain't got no power if he/she ain't got no followers.
Then once enough followers voiced themselves, then Leanther and the team would consider if the god/goddess would be allowed.

18
I finally felt myself today...so I went out....BAD IDEA.  The Red Light Caves got me again.  I swear, I could build a house out of all the stones I've left there.
One day I will be strong enough to walk through them, and not even have to raise a hand.
*coughs*
Still no Soul Mother.  The Mother Goddess is always watchful.
*sways*
I've made it back to the inn...as a spirit...I tried to fetch my stone...one of the little buggers...
*drops to knees*
...must've poisoned me...
