Rogues have other benefits though (I also play a rogue) and I think it was more of a way to give a cookie to the fighters for once.  There is always someone that's going to say "man... I want that too".  So, I don't think it's so much as no love for rogues as it is for giving an added incentive to play a non magic fighter or a faith based fighter that comes along with it's own challenges.

Good point.

I know they can still be titled, but the xp bonus would be nice to have as a rogue too. It's a little harder to come by combat xp as a rogue than the other 4 classes ;)

Man, no love for the frontline hardened rogues of the land, eh? :D

Thanks for the answers!

I guess at this point I'll have to assume that's what happened. Funny I never saw any notification of it happening though.

Thanks for throwing ideas out, I'm surely at a loss. At least on the bioware forums, it seems pretty hit and miss whether or not people will have issues with vista and nwn. I've tried all the ideas that other people have suggested in the stickied thread regarding vista, and nothing. My wife also has no issue with nwn on her laptop that's running vista. It's pretty frustrating though...

Let's see here... I do have the newest drivers for my video card. I've got three pages in my inventory that are nearly empty, so that isn't a problem. I can't remember if I tried to drag the helmet directly into a bag, but I don't think so because I normally just quickslot between that and my hood of shadows. Actually, I don't even normally put the helmet in a bag, but I may have been overweight and stuck it into one. Is there a known issue with dragging slotted items directly into a bag from being worn? The healer kits were quickslotted, but always stay in a bag to save on weight. I've also checked every bag, and every page in my inventory multiple times hoping that I just overlooked it.

Layonara Server / Re: The Soul Mother - Still necessary?
« on: June 06, 2009, 06:52:22 pm »
Sure, I'm 2 1/2 months late on this, but I always have an opinion even if I don't make it known. So, do we need the soul mother?

In the NWN version of Layo, I think she is necessary because the game IS an xp based progression system. However, I can't say that I don't want her gone. If she were not in place, there would be a LOT more level 40 characters than there are. And a lot of them would be shallow characters that lived in a constant grind for xp in the toughest areas they could barely survive through. On the other hand, we all know that server lag and client crashes account for a lot of deaths, for some players/characters the majority of them. Fact is, the Aurora engine is NOT an MMO engine, which is what PW servers try to be, just on a smaller scale than the commercial MMO's. It doesn't handle tons of people and tons of items well. In that light, the soul mother can be a slap in the face when you die due to things that are hardware and software related. I can recall 1 occasion that I lost a SS due to server lag. Luckily, I was on a player led quest where that player happened to be a WL who could verify the lag along with a few other players. I don't recall if a GM witnessed it, but the strand was returned anyway. Had the WL not been present and suggested I make the reimbursal request with his support, I wouldn't have bothered. I would have been bitter about it for a good long while though. Since there is not CONSTANT GM presence on the server to watch for things like lag spikes, the return system is a flawed bandage. The graceful pleas help, but the system will never be ideal. Ultimately if the choice were given to me, I would retire the SM despite my suggestion that she is necessary for the system at hand.

For the MMO version of Layo, I would have to say that the soul mother should absolutely be gone. I can understand that it is the MMO team's right to create the game as they want it to be. I can understand the desire to keep everything IC and maintain the idea of immersion. Beyond that, I have 2 big problems with the soul mother in a commercial venture. First, I don't feel that it's acceptable to force permadeath on a paying customer. Personally, I don't care for alternate characters. Once I've decided on a character concept, I want to play that character until I decide I'm finished with it, not when someone else does. I have 2 others, but I don't play them, and I probably never will again. The second problem deals with things like hardware and software issues. In NWN, we deal with things like lag and crashes because we have to. The game just isn't any better and it can't be. When you're the creator of something though, you have to make it work correctly, especially in the case of a subscription. Denying a SS return because there wasn't a staff witness to a lag spike or a client crash just isn't a good business decision in that case. Unless lag and client-side crashing could be prevented [not possible] or at the least logged for the purpose of grievances, I, as a consumer, would not be satisfied with a permadeath system that can be influenced by hardware or software failure. As much as it is an OOC idea, it can't be ignored in a business venture.

I know this thread wasn't necessarily intended to involve the MMO, but I feel it's a relevant issue since it will still be Layonara when all is said and done.

Awesome, thanks. I'm guessing the confusion came from new way of explaining things.

Pft. When you haven't played in over a year, and you log back on alone in the middle of nowhere near Fort Miritrix from the previous night's adventure, warm and fuzzy isn't exactly the feeling a messenger bird invokes ;)

okay, problem solved. I guess ATi cards don't like the "environment mapping on creatures" option in the advanced area. At least I'm using the newest drivers for it now though, hehe.

I'm going to try that when I get some time today. Unfortunately, the bit of searching online that I've even found related material seems to indicate that the newer drivers [period] are ignoring an important type of texture that nwn happens to be using. I'm still tryin' though. I'm running an ATi HD4870 and the 9.2 catalyst drivers, so I don't even have the option of going to very much older drivers hoping for better support. I wanted to stick with an nVidia card, but they just didn't have the right card in the right price range. This card is both for me.

It doesn't appear to be a result of the conflicting ports. After triple checking that all computers have different ports, and a server reset, I still cannot see myself or any of the npcs in town. I can, however, see the kobolds just outside of town in the fields.

EDIT: It appears this is a video card related issue. I get the same result when opening the OC as well.

I've actually done that.. but I initially changed it to one that was already being used. There's also a duplicate of me standing in the fields where I just logged out. I've re-changed the port now

*This particular page is noticeably stained by tear drops, and has become brittle*

It's been ten years since I've been back to my home in Haft Lake. Pranzis has changed drastically, apparently its been taken by followers of Sulterio. Its great walls seem even more heartily fortified, if that is possible. They are taller, if nothing else. I've not spent much time in the city just yet, I was more concerned with verifying that my home was still... mine. Luckily, it has not been repossessed by the state and sold to someone else.

With that worry out of the way, I feel I can return to my adventuring. First order of business will be finding some income. Prior to... returning home... I had spent my life savings on a house and some high end equipment.

Most preferably upon the rubble of one of the many goodly ones. ;)

Bordak will of course aid Kor in the razing of a temple for the building of a new one :)

Fixed Bugs / Re: Hallow Wraith Spider Poison
« on: May 30, 2007, 07:21:28 pm »
While I'd like to be able to craft the poisons because the sacs do drop... I wonder what the point is other than for crafting xp? Gilli has a fairly high dexterity, and can get to 33 with his exceptional amulet. ONCE, I got lucky and applied either a queen spider or bastard sword spider, don't remember which, while he was maxed out at 33. at his normal dex of 26-28, he fails applying dire spider poisons nearly half the time. I don't have any research or numbers on that, just a guess based on one stint of burning through probably 20-30 vials.

That said, I'm with [probably] the rest of the poison crafters and would like to see permanent poison kits, or at least having the durations increased on the current ones.

EDIT:
Also, is there any way to see the roll on applying the poisons? I've always wanted to see it, but it doesn't show in either of my chat bars.

It's a happy day! Tilli, Hrothy, and me finally bought a house in Haft Lake near Pranzis! We haven't had much money to decorate with yet, but we've got a couple storage crates so far. I think the three of us will do much better with our crafting once we have plenty of chests to store a larger amount of supplies.

Also, we've decided to have a house warming party sometime soon. Tilli is going to make a few crates full of roasts, bread, juices and ale for the guests, and then once we get decorated we'll have everyone over.

Since the discussion between each class having its own benefits and rangers not being spellcasters has been gone over [and I agree], I've got one opinion on the ring idea:

Since they are not spellcasters, I think a ring for rangers [or paladins] should be restricted to level one spells due to the aforementiond reasons. On top of that, I think it should only grant 1 or at most 2 extra spell slots, also for the reason that they are not primary spellcasters and should not get as many slots as a wizard/cleric/sorcerer
