Wow, really faster than I expected! i'll take a look on the guidelines. And i remember i loved the in game cooking crafting (no small wonder since i'm a cook irl). Does it still exist? Did it receive an overhaul in the recent years or something? My oldschool eyes are finding a little hard to find this kind of information I guess

Kudos for the poor souls who went into Haven Mines with Eliza today. Kudos for Sall's player for being such a rude dirty woodsman covered in blood, Rory's for being shady and running like crazy from gnolls, but specially, many great kudos to the player of the character with the french accent, named

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Rebuilding and Graceful Pleas? Oh!

Hmm, thanks you three.

Rain's player, I believe thereis nothing wrong with casting an attack spell while in expertise mode, since with Expertise you receive a penalty to attacks to gain a bonus on AC. It would apply to touch attacks and to ranged touch attacks, of course, but if you can cast defensive spells there is nothing to bar offensive spells. I've heard an argument once that this wasn't abusive in PNP, because it is limited to the character BAB, but that it was on NWN, because with two feats a spellcaster could easily gain +10 to his AC with no bigger problem than having -10 to something they never use: Attacks.

In any case, thanks all involved. When I'm back home from work I'll post it in the char reinburse. Along with the feats I also wanted to change a skill. It's Spellcraft. Really, when I created her I thought it would be nice (a good skill, after all), and that Eliza would know about this, but the way I roleplay her sincerely she would understand nothing of the theory of spellcasting. She reveres nature and feels as one with it, like the Fey who taught her, so she sincerely would know nothing about the theory of Spellcraft. But then, she would be a good healer, tending to the wounds of man and beast, and I didn't put even a point in Healit. Since it's a minor change I can put it in the request for the feat reselection, right?

Well, anyway, I shall make my request. Thanks all.

BTW: Hell, I really love to play this char! Even a weakling she is such a great char!

Thanks GM. I understand now, C is a variation of A, where A can't be done in the way mentioned by me, but with another option pointed by you, that is the base of C, where B has no point with the other two. I hope this last sentence was confuse enough ;)

I know what I want to do: I want to make Eliza a true caster, someone who casts as a primary function, and because of that I need to follow option B. Where do I request it? Should I make a list of the feats by level, and where I want the stat increase? A PM? A post here?

PS: Lore states "By default, NWN allows spellcasting while using Expertise." The "default" part makes me worry. Does Layonara removes this use?

By no means no, dear Row. I mean dedicating to the way of a caster: Buffing allies, summoning creatures and blasting enemies with powerfull magic, while staying in defensive casting and expertise mode. A true caster stands behind and rains spells over the opponents, only engaging in melee (as a cleric or druid) as the battle is mostly won or when truly depleted of spells and thinks that going to melee will win the battle. Druids have interesting spells to be a true caster.

Opposed to a Gish, that is the spellcaster that buffs himself and maybe the others and then goes to stand toe to toe against the enemies, like most clerics.

Hope this clarifies.

Quote from: darkstorme
but be prepared to do a lot of writing beforehand.

This shall not be a problem at all. I'm very used to writing RPG guides and classes and such things, so I write, write, write a LOT in my life.

So, I'll try to be more specific with the requests. But this, of course, is just espectulation. I Want:

A: To change her feats (really, this one is very needed), and relevel her last two levels to enter shifter prc (I don't mind waiting two weeks and working many CDTs. Actually, I'll have to spend more than that since I probably won't play more than two times a week).

or

B: To change her feats and go all the way to true caster, keeping all the druid levels and such

or

C: To rebuild her from scratch (but keeping her CNR Cooking ability. I've spent more hours leveling this than adventuring or questing to gain xp and levels!). I could just make another char and play it very much like I play Eliza, and all in all it would be the same thing, however this just seems way too cheap.

I hope this is more specific, kind GM. I already know that B is possible, but what about A and C?

General Discussion / Re: Being Lawful
« on: January 09, 2010, 05:16:50 am »
I believe that even chaotic charaters may follow a strict code of conduct. Think about the most basic barbarian' code: "I will not let a hand fall on me. I will not be ordered. I will not serve another against my will. I do not do these things to others and I don't allow this to be done to me. To be against this is to invite my wrath". It's very strict. The barbarian don't hit unarmed people, do not order people around, and does not take people as slave, and considers this high honor. He attacks people who do this.

If he was Good he would fight against people who do this to HIM and to OTHERS who can't defend themselves, because you also put in the mix the thing that good people care for others.

If he was Neutral, he would fight people who did this to HIM only, because he cares about himself and those he love. He could even fight for those close to him, or beause he had a reason to do this, but he wouldn't feel the moral "need" to fight for others.

And, of course, he would disdain the "Laws of man and not of lions" and this kind of thing, calling them inept, false, wrong and all that, while remaining on his "free spirit". He imposed himself a code, a strict one, a "law", but disregards as useless other people's laws that aren't like his own.

So I think that being honorable and following a strict code isn't what defines someone as Lawful. It surely IS part, but doesn't defines.

I've read once, by Frank Trollman (it's his name), a great phrase something like this: "No one understands what aligment is, but everyone has their opinion on what aligment is. To avoid discussions you should point out to your players what you think aligment and discuss it with your players so you all are on the same playing field. If one thinks that being chaotic is not allowing other people's codes upon then and other thinks it's being creative and other thinks it's being unrealiable (a.k.a. mental disorder) then you're bound to disaster". Frank Trollman is very agressive, so it was somewhat less nice than this, but that's the whole idea.

Since there's no DM here to discuss, we should put great weight on what LORE tells us. It's like what our DM says he thinks it is: If your RL dm tells you that in his game, being chaotic means bing crazy, and you don't want to be crazy and you don't want to fight you dm, would you play chaotic? We should interpret our own ways, but considering as the solid base the explanation of what layo tells us.

In that way, I don't agree on what being lawful on layonara means, but since this is a nice DM, I won't fight him.

I believe that the law/chaos axis is too complex in DnD and no two people think it's the same thing.

For me, being Lawfull is fully deciding to follow an arbitraty code, be what it is, believing that following self-imposed codes is better than living in anarchy, and believing that people should follow codes, be their or others. More important, a lawful person respects the needs of others for other codes. So the lawful good soldier follows the law, because following the laws of the country is the ethic code that he choose for himself. BUT he believes that soldiers who follow the codes of the other countries are right, because following your country and king is good.

And being Chaotic is a little diferent: If you follow a self-imposed code you believe this is the only right way to play things, and other ways are wrong. If you don't follow a code you believe that following self-imposed codes is wrong. In any case, a chaotic person does not fully respect other people's codes. The chaotic soldier follows his king because he decided that, but thinks that is foolish to follow any other code, and wouldn't accept any other idea.

These are extremes, and now you just mix with the Good - Evil axis, and you can have chaotic neutral vs chaotic good, and lawful good vs chaotic good...

For me lawful has nothing to do with being serious, or tedious, or capable or working together. And being chaotic has nothing of being creative, open hearted or these things. Piano is music, and it's supposed to be chaotic (look to the bard) but any person who even tried to take serious lessons would see it's perfectly symetrical math, a thing that people would consider pretty lawful.

Fort Vehl... It's a good option also, it's got an outlaw town mindset, like the campital of Amn in Forgotten Reals... Still I'll have to look at both. And Arnax too. Thanks again.

Thanks for the place. I shall take a look at it in the LORE, but of course I still have problems to find myself in the map and the cities, specially because I was never high level and couldn't travel to any places because of level restrictions (of course, this should be different now).

But just for the sake of completion: Is there any other slave market / crime city / city full of underworld? I wish to have some options, you know.

And serissa, does she still have it? Wow. I'll be mostly not playing her anymore, specially because of what would be her actual age, but in any case it's good to have this sense of belonging.

General Discussion / Re: The way we play our characters
« on: January 06, 2010, 08:51:33 am »
It's obviously a little of both. But personaly, as a long-time DM, I like to make development of my char, that's what makes me happy. If I planned a guy that is totally in love with her wife and would never cheat her (and let's suppose she's another pc), and circunstances IG could lead him to fall in love with another female char, I would totally go for it! After all it's development. I don't buy the idea of "It's not what I want to play" of some people, but I do respect. I don't play my chars as my avatars, but as real people in a real world, so I think that an unexpected thing here and there is very fun. Besides, if the change was totally incredible and IC and I don't like OOC what he became, I'll just give him a gran finale and get another 1st level char rocking. Easy like that.

Whew, kudos for the players of today's quest. It was mostly fun trying to speak as a cat, and the people just made me laugh.

And anyway, dying as a hero is good anyway...

New portrait for Eliza. Did this one myself.

It is not like I play that much, but a portrait is a portrair, I think.

Players won't, however.

*An elegant note is posted under the original note in the Inn. It was written with a flowing, elven style*

I see tht you are making good sales, my boy. I really hope that you are doing well. *at this point, the style change* AND I HOPE THAT YOU ARE NOT EATING THOSE HORRIBLE DRIED RATIONS!!! THEY ARE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH!!!

With great concern, always your friend (and cook, hehe), Eliza.

Man, this certainly would be good, the thing of AD&D of Constitution. Don't make THAT much chance, but it would be cool the rp aspect of the hardy fighter being able to resist the soul mother more...

GRRRR! CRINOOOOOOS!!!!!!

Ps: I am feeling better alredy. Thanks. =P

Just wanted to say, one above: Greatly said.

Going all upside down just because of a game is plainly crazy...

Why bother with someone that can play fourty hours a week being a favorite while I know that my main, loved character won't go past the seventh level?

C'mon, I think people may say what they want, okay okay, but c'mon, it is just a GAME. And a COMPUTER ONE *pnp fan*.

As the elf of the party wich I dm would say... "...pf...humans..."
