General Discussion / Re: Vendar's leave of abscence

Hello again Layo-mates! I'm finally settled in a bit overseas and thought I'd try logging in. The internet here is a bit spotty (wireless access only), but thought I might be able to roam around my old stomping grounds again. Look for Vendar to show up, he'd like to say hi to everyone.

Just thought I'd take a moment to write a quick post. It's been a busy last few months, training in TX for deployment to Iraq. Internet here is almost non-existent due to the training area we're in, but I wanted to let everyone know Vendar is alive and well and looking forward to coming back to Layonara as soon as he can find enough bandwidth to jump into.

I have been continuing to meditate and focus on my ki-buidling exercises in my time alone and it is finally building results! My Master talked about allowing the ki to flow over your whole body, from head to toe. By doing so, the ki will strengthen the body and when focused properly, even heal wounds and mend broken bones. I was following the meditation exercises he taught me and could feel my ki washing over me like a fountain. It started at my head, at first just a slight, warm feeling. But as I concentrated, the feeling grew and soon I could feel it flowing down around my neck and torso. Sometimes, this is where I would lose focus, get distracted by outside thoughts. But today, I was able to focus and felt it surround my whole body.
I ran into Milly and she mentioned to me a great library at Blackford Castle. I had not been there yet and immediately begged of her to show me it's location. We walked to the castle, and she seemed a bit apprehensive, but lead me to the library anyway. There was a portal there to take us to the libraries main center. It was huge! Larger than any I had seen. I wanted to spend hours there but Milly seemed very uncomfortable and asked if I could her in return for showing me how to get here. She said she was taking a journey across the ocean to a land covered in ice and snow. I had never seen such a land and was excited to explore the area, but the bitter cold made the journey rough. I couldn't keep my hands and feet warm. Milly is growing in power in her own right as a magic-user/shape-shifter. Shape-shifting seems completely unnatural. Milly took the form of a troll to do battle against the kobolds that ambushed us in the icy caves. While I admire her ability to fight unarmed as a troll, I can't imagine the damage she is doing to her body by changing it's shape.

Recently I was with a group of adventures that included Brian, Abigail, and... *flips through various scrolled notes and pages of journal*, others I will have to refer to later delved into the Haven mines. This area is filled with Black Gnolls that call themselves the Shadowpaws I believe. They live here in great numbers and are established well, with permanent residences inside the cave, including wells to draw water from. Our group meet them in battle on each occasion and brought down the pack's leader. His head was taken for bounty by one of the group members.

We then traveled to the Goblin Wastelands and were thinning the ranks of the goblins who camp there when we meet a powerful shaman who, despite our combined efforts could not be harmed. We had to flee the battle for another time.

Afterwards we were resting outside of Hlint when the earth itself trembled. We ran to investigate the disturbance and we were meet with a figure calling himself a Guardian from somewhere called Fortress. He appeared out of a portal right in front of us, so I assume he is from another Plane. He said he was tracking a creature who takes the shape of other beings after destroying them. The creature is nigh-indestructible, but can be harmed by cold in it's original form that is somewhat jelly-like. The creature took over a lesser Guardian in Fortress and was able to escape. The Guardian we spoke to said the creature could be tracked regardless of what form it is in due to it's distinct odor. Could it be the goblin shaman we encountered earlier was this beast? Abigail mentioned she detected a strange odor during the time. Since we could not pick-up on the scent of the beast, and the Guardian could not be sure it traveled to our realm, he departed. I went to the guard captain in Hlint to inform her to be on guard. Weather or not she believed such a wild story is unknown, but I have at least done my duty to spread the knowledge.

*Vendar gladly accepts the parchment. Taking out his own trusty quill and travel ink stopper, he scrawls that he is in need for hops to advance his techniques of brewing. Not knowing how much he should have, he requests twenty and offers a reasonable sum of true for their delivery based on current market rates.* He then bows politely to her friends and lets them know he is frequently in Hlint on the continent of Mistone.

Yesterday I meet a group Milly, Luna, and Huntemara that were heading int o the crypts of Krandor. Since I had told a young lass named Nikki I would help her retrieve the urn containing the ashes of her grandfather she left in the crypts when attacked by undead, they allowed me to join them. We pressed to the second level of the crypts, but there the undead were strong and forced our retreat. Since we could go no farther, we decided to travel to the
Ire Mountains.  Letharian Leafwalker and his mate Silver, meet up with us as well and we were attacked by several gnolls in the area. After a fierce battle, some of us fell, but the Gods deemed our comrades worthy of a return to this realm. Once we licked our wounds and gathered our forces, we traveled back towards town. Luna spied several nasty spiders in the area and was convinced we should slay them before they could descend upon the town. We charged into battle, Luna's fireball spells scorched several of them. Although some of us were bitten, we survived the fray. We came across a dead male and carried him to a small alcove and gave him a proper burial.

Today I meet Grovel, part of the group that calls themselves a pack. Grovel, Nonac, Mangle, War Singer, and Cam Cutter all belong to this "pack". Apparently, Mangle-Or was raised by wolves as a pup when he was young. All of the pack seem to share a bond with wolves and sometimes call wolves to aid them in battle. They were all very upset over the scourge of werewolves that inhabit parts of the woods. I spent the day traveling with the pack, learning more about them. Together they are very strong and we took down large groups of fearsome foes. They aided me in slaying a strange beast and removing it's head as proof of it's demise. A merchant camped out near Gloom Woods asked us to slay it as the beast was preventing him from traveling and making a living. The merchant kindly paid me for this dead with a valuable cloak that seems to make my reflexes a bit faster when I wear it.

Grovel asked me to be the historian of the pack and officially invited me into the group. I will continue to follow this group and try to understand them better and record their deeds.

I have continued to explore the land around me and make observations of events as they unfold. In Hlint, Johan the fur trader put out a call to adventurers to find a rare Golden Bear that only appears every ten years. From the pelt of this bear he intended to make his final masterpiece cloak before he went to the grave and join his wife. Several heroes answered the call, but one druid name Khuren was opposed to the hunt from the beginning. The bear was spotted in Wolfswood last and the heroes departed. They returned with the pelt and were rewarded by Johan. It was then that Khuren transformed himself into a bear and attacked and killed Johan without warning. The Hlint guard captain tried to arrest him, but Khuren transformed into a cat and speed out of town. Since then a bounty has been placed for bringing him to trial in Hlint.

Thanks for all the friendly advice. I was also told to check the server status page before logging on so I know who is around my level to send tells to for grouping. Great advice everyone and I'm proud to be a part of such a great community. :D

Rumour Has It / Re: Murder in Hlint!

*A lone monk watched the events unfold from the background, busily scribing in some sort of leather-bound journal*

(To himself) "I wonder who will be the one to bring this druid in for the murder? Will anyone attend the funeral of Johan in Hlint? Does the old man have any surviving kin? With each new event, only more questions arise."

I have continued to explore the lands around Hempstead and have met a few people asking for help. I young girl was attacked by the undead in the tombs of her homeland while trying to visit her grandfather. In her haste to escape, she left the urn inside and asked me to retrieve it. I tried my best to accomplish this taks for her, but the undead there were overpowering, though not as numerous as the one in Vehl. I didn't make it very far inside however before I had to make my retreat.

I meet up with Mangle-Or and Nonac Shoadow Wolf, two halflings I mentioned previously. They are both a bit curious, but helpful enough. They lead me to town where the local bard in the tavern needed assistance recovering an item he had dropped inside a cave. Apparently he was attacked by some type of slime while sleeping and made haste to escape when he awoke and realized what was happening. We ventured into the cave and fought off some kobolds who attacked us on site. Further exploring the cave interior, we saw a huge creature that can only be explained as a giant gelatinous cube. I could see the remains of it's previous dinners inside it, and while attempting to destroy the thing it enveloped me. I struggled to get out of it's slimey interior but was paralazed. Fortunately, Nonac was there to defeat the beast and free me from it's grip. We were unable to locate the item the bard requested within it's remains, and soon discovered there were more of these creatures lurking about. We discussed our next course of action, when the world faded away from. When I came to, I was alone in Silverwood Forest. A a dangerous place, full of creatures beyond my abilities. To defend my self, I crept through the shadows and made my way to the safety of the nearest town for a rest.
