Trade and Market Hall / Re: Buying: 2 mithril ingots
« on: November 28, 2010, 05:12:30 pm »
* A tall, older man, cowled and cloaked in browns and greens, moves quietly from message board to message board, as is his wont. On seeing a particullary colorful leaflet, he reads and then tacks up a small note beside it. *

Ms. Copperstone,

I happen to have one such ingot, mildly enchanted, lying about and gathering dust. Market prices for ingots of this metal currently run ~ 6,000 T. Since this one's enchanted, what do you say to a nice round 8,000? You can leave word at the Orc Basher's Guild in Hempstead.

LORE Bugs / Re: My Characters are not updating
« on: November 10, 2010, 06:32:54 pm »
The LORE pages for my characters started being updated again, after Orth turned automatic updating back on (10/23), but then stopped as of 11/04.

The [LORE]CharacterUpdates[/LORE] page shows that everyone's seems to have stopped about that time as well.

* A woman, dressed predominately in deep red, is seen carefully repositioning those notes which the inconsiderate have placed atop hers. Those with keen eyes would notice blonde hair peeking out from under her hood. Any within earshot would hear her humming merrily to herself as she performs this task. *

Trade and Market Hall / Re: Wanted "CUT FIRE OPAL"
« on: November 06, 2010, 03:24:09 pm »
Dear Sir or Madame,

I would be happy to help you, although it would take me a month or so before I could make the trip to mine the raw gems. Also, do I understand you to want the stones merely cut, or would you wish them to be polished as well?

Please let me know both your desires on that and the number you require. I can be reached though Lady Calise in the Shrine at Hlint.

~ Annwyl Cadi

//thinking she can do this sometime mid next week, if that's soon enough

I would like the Bracers of Sigil and will try to pick them up sometime in the next cycling of the moons.

This has happened a couple of times before. I'm guessing that in the effort to recover from the recent server problems, the automatic update switch didn't get turned back on.

Dear Sir,

Would you be so kind as to reserve the first item on your list, the Gloves of Care, for me please? I can be reached either through Lady Calise at the Shrine in Hlint, or at my home near Castle Mask.

* Annwyl Cadi returns to Hlint and makes her way west, towards Leringard; it is Seplar 2, though the sun has not yet risen.  As she rides past the east gate of Fort Llast, her horse suddenly snorts and shies at something in the pre-dawn dark. Calming Layssam with a gentle hand on his neck, backed by soothing words, Annwyl trots to the gate proper only to find a dead horse, barded and perhaps liveried with no one else about. *

"Oh my goodness!", she exclaims aloud as tears begin to mix with the rain on her cheeks. She quickly masters her outburst and her voice drops to a whisper, "I should report this, though I have no great love for Toranites."

* She rides through the gate and dismounts at the Temple steps. Swallowing her pride, in deference to the sad scene back on the road, she stiffens as she walks up the Temple steps to make her statement and to appeal for someone, anyone, to go and remove that poor dead horse from the roadway. *

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Use of Draconic Language

... who can read and write draconic ...

I'd raise a semi-ignorant question here: Draconic is a written language? why? Have dragons written? ^^

Quote
"speaking draconic" just refers to knowing the language, more or less synonymous with "having the ear."

That however -does- make sense to me... the ability to learn a language from immersive exposure, listening in context, even if never being able to speak it.

Anybody know what will happen?

My experience, having done this several times w/ both Caerwyn ('cause he's not overly fond of the attention light brings) and Annwyl ('cause some of the colors look simply hideous on her) for swords, rings, etc., is that the device removes the light effect only, leaving all other effects intact. The world's gone dark on each use that I've done independant of any TS or UV, though it's not a bug IMO and can be dealt with ;)

Rumour Has It / Lor
« on: September 22, 2010, 12:54:43 am »
After many sessions over the months and years, including many more missed appointments, Caerwyn addresses his archery cadets in the training hall in Lor, his voice uncharacteristically subdued.

"You each have come along well, some better than I could have hoped. * he gives a subtle nod to Dordis, Gunder, and finally one to Ginny Reath, accompanied by a smile whose thinness is belied by the clear pride in his eyes * Truth be told, I've been an intermittent, and therefore poor, instructor, as ... events and other ... work have kept pulling me away from this charge. Unfortunately, the current situation unfolding up near  Castle Mask may overtake us, be we as ready as we'd like or not."

He pauses a moment to collect his thoughts as he clears his throat and winds back up to a more familiar barking timbre.

"That said, I'll offer some advice as to the role of massed archers in battle: Interdiction, in a word. A wounding shot that hits beats a kill shot that misses -every- time. Contrary to what you may have heard in story or song, the purpose of battle isn't to slaughter an enemy wholesale but to defeat him. Every member of an enemy force that can be made to cut and run can demoralize his remaining comrades to the point where they cut an run as well; battles develop like a dam breaking. If this comes to a fight, you may be called upon to help ensure that the enemy breaks before the city does."

Caerwyn looks each of the cadets in the eye, as he did on their very first session so long ago, before his voice softens again.

"If I can be back before this situation boils over, I will. Until then, keep your skills sharp, do as the Beacon Guard tells you, and keep practicing snap shooting so you can acquire and hit targets in the blink of an eye. If this -does- come to battle, for Gods' sake keep your heads down except to shoot, have faith in your comrades and commanders, and maintain your nerve. You're all good cadets and with luck you won't have to become soldiers too soon; if you do though, I know you will do Lor proud."

He offers them a warm smile as he turns to leave. Pulling up his hood, he allows his expression to darken privately as he mutters to himself alone:

"Dear Gods I hope they listened and can be ready in time."

Trade and Market Hall / Wanted: Oak pipe
« on: August 30, 2010, 07:48:05 pm »
Tugs,

I gave up smoking ages ago (for reasons that don't make any sense now, but a habit, even one of abstinence, is a habit) and I'm pretty sure I have my old pipe at home or, if not, can make you one.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Pawn Shop - Again
« on: September 03, 2010, 01:17:50 pm »
Considering that the pawners pony up 10ish% of the value on items 'bought' by them, if it were possible to have them keep some (all?) of the items pawned between server resets and have them for sale at 50-75% of value, there might just be enough traffic in and out of the pawn shops to keep them semi-solvent. Just a thought.

* Caerwyn listens carefully to Andrew's recounting of what he's discovered regarding the captured ship papers. He takes a careful look at them himself, quietly palming one and slipping it into his pocket. He then gives Jennara and Drexia a short nod. With a short incantation, he up and vanishes; those with exceptional sight or hearing will notice him heading westward. *

Cailo,

I would be happy to buy your box of aloe, as I need the time more than the true at the moment. I shall try to meet with you in latter part of Febra, if that is convenient with you.
