General Discussion / Re: Donation Time

Three issues/questions from my point of view then:
1) Does anyone who doesn't donate get discriminated against in any way? Sorry to have ask this but in lieu what's been said thus far and begs the question.
2) How bad is the activity on the forums/game that you'd have to make this thread? I ask because I am also part of another community which runs its server/site completely via donations and those are 4 digit numbers per month and they have no problem reaching those goals within the first week or two of each month through anonymous, non-intrusive to gameplay, donations and before you ask, their active playerbase is around 2000 individuals but they have less less registered users than Layonara.
3)Why not have a a highly restricted highly monitored pay per view ad banner somewhere on the site to help with the running costs? I mean even if it were a pay per click those have a optimal pay out of around 20-30 cents per click... 2-3 clicks a day....365 days a year...that's ~150 USD per year per user with minimal discomfort to the user, hell for some they might even be interested in the ad itself so assuming Layonara has people that love it for what it is, which I assume it does otherwise it wouldn't have an MMO in the pipeline, you could comfortably be paying a part of the running costs at the least without the need to ask for donations (2-3 clicks, maybe some site browsing, that's 5-10 min per day or ~61 hours per year per user assuming said user dislikes what he/she the ad). And here to prevent a negative effect on the RP itself you could have the banner itself only show up in one of the subforums considered to be out of game and you just tell people that's where it is and those who want to help up with the costs can do so either via direct monetary donation or via a donation of time, either way the bills get a dent in them.

Settled on a race for my character (and that's the only hint anyone's ever gonna get before seeing the fleshed out character in submissions :p ) and I have to ask: Do Lightfoot Halflings have any specific tid bits of lore? or , as I've grown to suspect, is the entire lore section on Halflings describing the Lightfoots?

Edit:
Additional question: After reinstalling NWN and doing a dry run on the multiplayer it has an issue with the master authenticator server, will it affect my ability to play on Layonara?

Won't be on within the near future as I am playing quite a few games and more importantly: I want to work on a killer character with a good storyline first for the server :3 but until then I'll be around the forums getting to know people and learning the rules (again) ^^

You're welcome.

Remember that if your character is approved as True Neutral, you have to play him True Neutral.  Don't cheat the system by ignoring the approved alignment to play a restricted alignment you prefer, please.

If the character you've submitted would be best, in your opinion, as, say, Chaotic Neutral, you can ask that the approval be postponed and try a more basic second character for a while.  After displaying the ability to play within the approved alignment of the second character for the requisite period, then you could resubmit the first character with the alignment you really want.

That's the thing... I only want one character so guess I am gonna be playing TN for a while (basically not being either good nor bad and neither chaotic nor lawful in said behavior, not much really to it) and either way I am going at it "the character will be me" style so no more an issue being truly neutral with Kohim than I am in real life...oh s**t ...

Just kidding :D.

Thanks for both answers ^^ (btw I don't bump threads up for any other reason than having something to say or ask).

I don't think I'll stay True Neutral as that doesn't sound much like me ( neutrality= weighing things, rationalizing, etc, I am more of a react on the moment then think as I go with it type, whatever seems right at the moment is logically the best course possible for me to undertake in that situation, of course it isn't completely on instinct but nor do I stand around and think about it for more than it takes me to find out which self-evident solution ,to me, is best all round).

Thought I'd whip one up on the spot (personal experiences with mages in other games show that to be pretty accurate).

When you tell me IG I think of:
YouTube - Soulstorm - Imperial Guard Stronghold Intro
not In-game, gonna be a while before I can build my dictionary up.

In that case I call for the formation of the League of Extraordinary Pricks to make sure no do gooder beats them to the punch :D

Oh and could someone point me towards a glossary of D&D terms? (I keep seeing IC, OOD and such and while I can tell what some mean right off the bat some aren't so easily deciphered)

So for short: the evil alignment is restricted to prevent jackasses from being jackasses on the server and be able to cry foul if they get called out on it? Seems pretty straight forward but I can see where it gets blurry (you can't bloody well say one type of evil isn't ok because then you invite subjective points of view to the table because no matter how good a GM is he/she is ultimately human and thus cursed with a limited prism and is thus unable to be completely objective) so I can see why the whole evil spectrum is limited to the veterans/trusted members of the community ( hmm on a personal note: been trying to come up with a logical construct which eliminates the subjective nature of human perspective, I ran face first into a brick wall when I tried generalizing said construct).

thank you for the information :). A small guide on how to change server addresses would also be good (I can hotwire anything in time but depends if you really wanna see what a Frankenstein I can make of the game before logging on).

Hmm... gotta ask though (I've been reading up) : what is up with the whole "Evil" taboo? Did something happen in the past to warrant such vigorous oversight of Evil characters? I get the idea that graphic RP and/or bios aren't allowed for obvious reasons (popularity of the server may lend itself to more impressionable young minds finding and reading said graphic texts ) but I am still curios as to how the CE side of Evil got completely relegated to NPCs and the rest of Evil being overseen so strictly. I am limited in RP experience so I won't assume anything as to how far one can immerse one's self within the character during RP but still... are people so Jedi to the Evil's Dark side? (pardon the reference) ? were there cases that went off the rails ?

Ok had some time so I installed it (put the hak files in the hak folder and the .tlk file I found, only one, in next to the dialogue.tlk file, no tlk folder found) but how do I run to log onto the server? o.O

Edit: darkstormO.o .... I ain't got a 4th year :D

Once I get some more free time I'll install it, atm I am running around like a headless chicken due to college (who ever said the first year was rough never tried the 2nd year majoring in physics). Once my character gets approved (after a ton of fixes considering my ability to color between the lines) I'll also likely have the time to sort out the installation.

Using a download accelerator for the ability to resume in case it dies (this the 2nd and last attempt at the big 950 ish mb archive, if this doesn't work... sighs I hate multiple download files >.<).
