Rumour Has It / A call to War! Voraxians Rise!
« on: January 19, 2011, 11:35:33 pm »
As if a wave has flooded the world suddenly there is movement everywhere as now the Voraxian General Superior has declared officially that they will support their allies in the war to come against the nation of Kuhl.

General Superior Haargrim has bid all Voraxians to take up their arms and prepare for battle.

Already he has received answering support from the Ulgrids, Bloody gate, the Runic Anvil and many other dwarven bastions around the world.

General Mourmalk has been appointed in an official capacity to oversee the establishment of camps for Voraxians heading to the warzone.

General Otek will lead the forces that wil be asked to gather in Bloody Gate from Alindor once ready they will make for Alhon on the western coast of Belinara.

General Longpike who was already talking with the Toranite authorities in Fort Last will oversee the staging of Voraxians there and travel with the Toranite Armies when they leave Mistone.

General Arima will be mobilising Voraxians in the north of Dreger outside Northpoint thanks to the Boyers generous offer.

All Faithful are advised to make their way to one of those mobilisation areas and report to the General in charge.

Rumour Has It / Rofireinites Mobilise
« on: January 19, 2011, 07:15:53 pm »
As Rael braces for the message to be presented to their Lord by the Rofireinites, elsewhere the Rofireinites are moving already.

In Westergate, messengers and mages have been travelling forth and portalling across the world to bring word to Rofireinite Faithful everywhere.

All those in prominant positions of command have been summoned to Westergate including the Heart of the Dragon Jennara for a meeting one week hence.

The call to arms has barely reached many and already members of the Faithful are raising their hands to serve in the Army of the Great Golden Dragon against what they are calling the Chaos of the Cult, it is believed that the Rofireinites view any nation that tries to subvert or turn dragons once again against humanity must be stopped. As we all know last time that happened it resulted in the Cataclysm.

In Hilm Lord Alexander has already gratefully received confirmation of the mobilisation as well as the Lord and Lady Commander of the Toranite army and the Superior General of the Voraxians.

What happens next only time will tell.

Rumour Has It / Rael attack on Kuhl?
« on: January 11, 2011, 07:17:38 pm »
Rumours are sketchy and uncertain but it seems a small infiltration unit of Rael soldiers has appeared inside Kuhl near the Nesar border and engaged a number of Kuhl patrols in the area killing a number of drachs and a few Myr'drachs before disappearing into the forest.

The Lord of Ash has dispatched additional troops to the south along with two dragons to search the area.

Nesar have condemned the attacks, saying they are a provocation and unecessary against the nation of Kuhl.

Lord Rael has neither confirmed nor denied the attacks, refusing to make comment.

People are left wondering if this was just a pretense of Lord Rael to show the Cult he can strike where he likes too should he need to but really, who knows the truth?

Both Nesar, Morholt and Sederra have warned that Toranites entering or leaving their borders intent on engaging in hostile activities with the Kuhl kingdom will be regarded as extremists and arrested.

Rumour Has It / Toranite Faithful mobilise
« on: January 07, 2011, 02:48:01 am »
Soon word spreads that missives have been dispatched to all corners of Layonara, to every Toranite haven, to every temple and shrine with words from the Auscultare himself.

"My fellow servants of our beloved leader Toran,

The time has come for us to stand forth and be recognised for who we are. To stand with our brothers and sisters in the brewing troubles in the world. I speak of course of the threat that those known as the Green Dragon Cult pose to each and every one of us.

I have given instructions to all leaders of our faith that the time for us to start to prepare has come. In recognition of our service and dedication I have duly appointed two figures whom you will have heard of and who represent the pure ideals that we all aspire to in our worship of Toran.

I speak of course of Toran's Chosen, Lady Daniella Stormhaven and also of the Company of the Star Commander Sir Lance Stargazer. Both who had dedicated their lives to His service and appear as living examples of what Faith looks like.

I hereby give both these able bodied followers the ranks of Lord and Lady Commander of the combined Toranite Army. They have the full backing of the Church leadership in their campaign to rid the world of the evil that the Green Dragon Cult represents.

May Toran grant them wisdom, and us the strength to follow in their footsteps and heed their words in the battles to come.

********************************************************

Across the lands people pack their belongings and start to rally to the call, making their way to Toranite centres of worship to be allocated into army units and divisions, ready to intensify training for the fields of battle to come.

In Mistone a flood of faithful make their way to Fort Last.

On Alindor they gather at the Fort of Kings.

On Dreger they gather outside Northpoint in the Kingdom of Boyer after agreements were made with the Aeridinites there.

On Belinara they move towards Castle Hilm to bolster the already significant force there that is at at present under Sir Lances command.

As they begin to gather more dispatches are sent to the Rofireinites, the Voraxians, and other faiths to join the call to arms.

Rumour Has It / PC's beware!
« on: January 05, 2011, 06:32:01 pm »
Across the world, in almost every nation people stir.

Mercenaries, mercenary groups, bounty hunters, assasin guilds, assasins, thieves guilds, thieves and so on, all rally, eager to get themselves a piece of the golden pie that the Lord of Ash has offered.

PC's should beware, nowhere may be safe anymore.

Whose got your back?

Rumour Has It / Kuhl issues a Statement
« on: December 27, 2010, 04:17:31 am »
*Sent forth by numerous means, one of the following declarations eventually reaches Rael while parts of the city still burn.*

To all Raelites from Lister Tremaine, Lord of Ash, of the Kingdom of Kuhl.

It is with heavy hearts we received word of the terrible and unprovoked attacks on your nation and it's people. Despite early assumptions of our involvement I publically do declare we would never engage in such an act of provocation on such a lawful nation as Rael.

The people of Rael have been wronged but so too have the people of Kuhl, by whomever has arranged such a cowardly act. Let it be known that Kuhl will stand with Rael to help them find the perpetrators and see that they are suitably dealt with.

Let it further be known that if Rael cannot see the truth of the matter and assumes that Kuhl is capable of such a cowardly act then we will stand ready to defend ourselves as the case may be.

****
Those nearby who had the opportunity to observe Lord Rael after he read the letter saw him crumple the document in his fist, drop it to the ground and grind it with his boot before he moved on to inspect the next fire, his face a carefully nuetral expression but with fire burning in his eyes.

Rumour Has It / Prantz is burning!
« on: December 27, 2010, 03:57:49 am »
Across Rael soldiers are thinned in their ranks from outlying areas of the nation as the bulk are recalled to Prantz after it seems the Cult have initiated a series of strikes on the capital city Prantz.

Days after Lord Rancion III was recalled from Castle Mask news is starting to spill forth.

It seems that despite Rael's best efforts the Cult have infiltrated Prantz through a number of Cult cells and positioned themselves for suicide strikes on different quarters of the city.

At least four groups have been identified by Rofireinite and Rael investigators within the city itself already.

Prantz is in a state of Martial law as Lord Rael has vowed to find the perpetrators of this most insidious offences against his people.

Even as the bulk of his armies make their way back to Prantz, soldiers, milita, fire crews and local citizens in the city work hard to battle the blazing fires that have already consumed a number of lives and are spreading in many areas.

In the Military district a large local militia barracks was targeted in which 150 militia have lost their lives as they slept and the building went up around them.

In the Courts district part of the courthouse was destroyed and some surrounding buildings belonging to various functionaries were lost as well as the lives of a dozen fire fighters when a building collapsed without warning.

An attempt to light the Office of records was thwarted but three buildings nearby have been lost.

At least thirty homes have been lost in the poorer quarter of the city where the houses back up against a large warehouse that stored army supplies.

Several warehouses in the Haft lake district have been lost and a dozen homes are still ablaze.

In the merchants district the main market place is burning out of control as it consumes all the businesses surrounding it.

One wing of the castle where Lord Rael works has also been damaged by fire in the closest any have come to the Lord of Rael in the attacks.

Several signs have been found in the city stating the following:

"Stay out of our business or the damage will be far worse."

For now there have been a large loss of life but numbers will not be known until the blazes are gathered under control and investigators can begin to sift through the mess.

Early indications are that Lord Rael himself has been walking the streets of Prantz inspecting each and every fire and he does not look happy. It's said he held a human women who had lost her husband while she cried and vowed to bring those responsible to Justice.

Rumour Has It / Earthquake in Lor
« on: December 20, 2010, 01:49:11 am »
Lor was rocked today by an earthquake that damaged an area of the city.

Residents caught in the earthquake and indeed all over Lor felt the rumbling of the earth. On Councillors lane the ground itself was seen to heave upwards during the earthquake before subsiding leaving the laneway a ruin of cobblestones and rubble.

Several buildings were seriously damaged and there were many injuries, at this stage there seems there were no fatalities but local Militia and able residents are clearing the rubble and searching for anyone caught in the damage.

Both Mayors were at the main point of the earthquake within an hour of the event and helping their citizens and calling for whatever aid could be brought to bear. Several small fires have been contained by fire and water crews as well.

It seems the damage was fairly localised but engineering crews are being assembled to head into the sewers to see what damage has been caused underground by the explosion. Already several sections of the city have been cordoned off due to rising sewerage levels due to collapsed channels in the earthquake's central zone.

Trade and Market Hall / Oil supplies dwindling
« on: December 17, 2010, 05:28:06 pm »
Across markets in Dreger the availability of various oils is becoming hard to come by.

Lamp oils, polishing oils even tanning oils for the leather market are in short supply.

It appears stocks of these sorts of oils are being bought up by a number of mercantile investors in Audiria.

Rumour Has It / Attack on Moraken's tower in Progress!
« on: December 01, 2010, 02:30:00 am »
Residents of Hlint and the surrounding farmlands have been stunned by a roiling fog that has enveloped the lands to the north of the town where Morakens abode lies. The billowing black and red fog cloud completely surrounds Morakens tower and is filled with angry jagged lightning bursts.

The sounds of loud explosions and tonal reveberations have carried as far as Hlint, many farmers and landholders to the north of the city have been evacuated to within the towns wooden palisade surroundings.

Riders have been dispatched with haste in all directions since the two scouting parties sent towards the ominous display failed to return.

For over four hours now the raging maelstrom has hung like a great pall over the lands to the north of Hlint completely obscuring any vision of Morakens great tower.

Rumour Has It / Rofireinites kidnapped
« on: November 03, 2010, 04:08:02 pm »
Authorities in Westerngate and from the Rofireinte Cathedral there are investigating why four of their lorekeepers were lured to one of the Inns in the city and then were bound and gagged by unknown assailants.

Their items and clothing were taken by the captors who then locked them in a rented room of the Inn. A cleaner found the four men in the room a day and a half later when a senior Lorekeeper from the Cathedral came looking for them.

Wardens of the Principium have been brought in to discover the identity and reason for the kidnapping and robbery.

Rumour Has It / The Red Bear does it again
« on: October 29, 2010, 09:37:35 pm »
Word today spreads rapidly of a seaborne encounter of the western shores of Succession where two of the Admiral Red Bear of Hurms Blood Circle captains have intercepted three slaver ships belonging to the Vine out of Katherian.

Two of the ships were sunk with all aboard lost while the last was captured.
Blood Circle Captain Lion the Brutal returned to port with the crew of the last pirate vessel hung prominantly from his masts, as is his custom. A gruesome reminder to any who would ply the trade of a slaver anywhere near Liwich.

At the same time rumours from Hurm report that the Silver Cresent has been mainly absent from the western coasts of Dreger for some years now having found more lucrative sources of income to the eastern edge of Dreger, reportedly in the employ of the Cult of Kuhl.

Rumour Has It / A flurry of activity in Hurm
« on: October 15, 2010, 08:05:19 pm »
There was a flurry of activity in Hurm this morning as the Regnant himself, Saviar Morgensen and several of his high ranked Overseers arrived at the extensive Shipbuilding yards in Hurm for an inspection.

Saviar seemed in good spirits amidst the flurry caused by his impromptu visit and inspection. He seemed most interested in the projects about to be completed and spoke at length with several of the Master Builders about a potential new lucrative contract that he was working on.

The visit stretched for some time after the consultations as he inspected every section of the building yards and even some of the ships in the final stages of construction. As he left there was a buzz of excitement at the suggestion of a major contract coming their way.

Rumour Has It / War comes to Rael
« on: September 28, 2010, 02:48:26 am »
With mornings light Rael is in uproar.

Overnight hordes of Dark Elves that also included some mercenaries from surface lands have struck numerous regions inside Rael itself.

So far the following is an accounting of the attacks that are emerging from Rael as information filters down the chain of command and to the surrounding lands.

Fort Hold:
Attacked just after midnight with a force of approximately 500 Dark Elves. it seems their target was the Rofireinite encampment just outside Fort Hold. The Knights of the Wyrm suffered heavy casualties in trying to defend the Principium Wardens and the other priests in the camp. One brave newly appointed Knight Captain, Benjamin Poetr rallied the Knights to hold off the Dark Elf attack until Rael reinforcements could arrive from Fort Hold and help rout the attackers. The Rofireinites claim the Dark Elves seemed to be searching for the records of the proceedings against the other Dark Elves tried at Fort Hold since their main target was the records tent.  Initial estimates indicate almost half of the Dark Elves were killed and a score captured before the rest fled into the night. Rael forces lost 47 another similar number wounded, the Knights lost seventeen with another five injured.

Oakhurst:
A major Raelian supply camp just outside Oakhurst was attacked just before midnight with a large force of Dark Elves. Early estimates indicate over two thousand Dark Elves participated in a three pronged attack on the supply post. A large portion of the Raelian Eastern Army was in camp picking up supplies otherwise the enemy may have severely crippled the Northern and eastern armies ability to operate in the field for some time.
In a hard fought battle the main dark elf force of a thousand struck the Raelian front lines and rapidly overcame them. At this point a coordinated attack hit from the south and from the north. Raelian spotters recognised the famous Dark Elven mercanery Lirtrisk Noz'Kelizan leading the northern attack while an unfamiliar but powerful dark elf sorcerer led the southern attack.
The main force lost over half its number as the Raelian troops rallied and crashed into them.
Perhaps recognising a far larger force against them than initially planned for Lirtrisk tried to retreat but was quickly surrounded and her force almost decimated. Raelian troops indicate that at least thirty men were lost to both Lirtrisk and her body guard known to be an esteemed arcane archer before they were brought down.
The Rael forces would have killed or captured more of the enemy if it werent for the Dark Elf Sorcerer who used powerful magics to cover their retreat and hold back the Rael forces, as well as igniting part of the supply compound in the process forcing Rael soldiers to try and save the supply depot.
Initial reports claim at least a thousand Dark Elves lost their lives while the Raelians suffered heavily due to Lirtrisks people and the Dark Elf Sorcerer. Its estimated over 400 Raelians were killed and another 200 injured. There were no captives.

Vale:
A small but efficient force of 100 Dark Elves overcame and killed the guards into the Vale and proceeded to the Katian temple where they came to grips with the people there. Priests and Druids held the Temple long enough for guards, inhabitants and rangers and animals called to defend the temple could arrive and help drive back the Dark Elves.  The Temple was breached but those Dark Elves that made it inside were killed by those who waited within. The remaining host fled back from where they came leaving the people of Vale and the Katians themselves in a state of shock.

Prantz:
Murder by night.
Dark Elf Assasins have risen onto the cities streets well after midnight and targeted certain individuals in their homes in the city. In the Upper Class Quarter at least a dozen nobles and their families have been found murdered in their homes. Guards have overcome and faced a number of the dark elf assassins as they tried to enter different homes. Several fires now burn in large estates in the city believed to have been deliberately lit by the dark elves to cover their escape. Martial Law in Prantz has been declared while Rael troops search house to house the entire city to seek out how the Dark Elves entered the city undetected.

Castle Mask:
Murder Most Foul.
Dark Elf assassins have struck the camp of the Raelian troops. In an apparent suicidal attempt to carry out their mission thirty assassins have managed to kill the entire negotiation party sent to Castle Mask to meet with the Lorites. The Human nobles from Prantz fell victim to the assasins blades as well as the Raelite General in charge of the force residing there before being cut down by soldiers.

Haft Lake:
A large group of over 200 Dark Elves attacked Haft Lake, raiding and burning several houses before adventurers and local Guard units mobilised and either killed or drove off the host.

As a result of this, as the dust settles over Rael in the next few days Lord Rael has declared Martial Law until order is restored, the borders are closed until further notice and his entire current standing army in the fields south of Pranzt have been ordered into the field. Every road, every village, every farmstead and every field in his nation is to be patrolled until further notice.
Current estimates indicate this means that just under 40,000 soldiers, human and demi humans are now helping to restore order in Rael.

The forces currently residing north of Castle Mask will remain in place to patrol the souther border with Lor until the new General arrives to take charge.

Rumour Has It / Hilm forces clash with Kuhl Scouts
« on: September 26, 2010, 01:04:03 am »
Stunned soldiers in a forward position near the Hilm Kuhl border have come into conflict with a group of Kuhl Scouts who had crossed the border into Hilm.

The soldiers initially saw a group of three giants who looked to be carrying a lot of supplies and equipment as if moving territory and followed them near the border. It was here the giants seemingly stumbled onto the Kuhl scouts in their campsite by suprise.

In a hastily arranged attack the Hilm Soldiers fell upon the scouts even as the giants sought to defend themselves as well.

At the battles end the three giants and the Hilm soldiers faced off against each other and even as the Captain in charge was about to signal the order to attack one of the giants ordered his comrades to lower their weapons.

Suprised yet again and unsure of the situation the Captain ordered his men to withdraw as the giants watched them leave taking no action to follow or harm the Hilm soldiers.

When questioned later one soldier seems to remember that one of the giants bore a symbol of Grannoch openly around his neck.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / True Sight vs Rogues
« on: September 21, 2010, 05:54:25 am »
Okay, I've mulled over this for some time, I've read many of the prior discussions about this spell and I know its been discussed to death but.......

Rogues struggle at the best of times at higher levels and with the creatures on layonara once you hit a certain level and go to many areas most magic using creatures that spawn seem to have True Sight as a stock standard spawn spell.

True Sight, due to nwn mechanics is almost 100% undefeatable in a sense that for a rogue character or character with HIPS it can see them around corners as well and once a target locks onto the character you have no chance to avoid them. (Yes I know creatures need to have line of sight for them to lock on, but its amazing how many times they lock on without that line of sight)

Ideally True Sight would not allow creatures to see through walls or around corners. Thus a rogue could actually make use of their sneaking and hiding abilities regardless of a person using True Sight and if they approached them from behind true sight would still not allow them to be seen in this sense.

I know we cannot alter the spell due to nvn mechanics but can we please entertain the thought of finding a way to give Rogues or characters with a hide chance the opportunity to use that ability vs true sight?

Ie can a DC check be built into the True Sight so that it checks vs the hide of the creature to see if it can overcome it?

Or alternatively can we make a version of True Sight that is specific to Layonara and have that used instead? One that can operate more realistically? So that when the creature does not have line of sight they lose track of the rogue with a successful hide check or something?

I know Im asking a lot, but the amount of times Ive heard the laments of players with high level rogues, and now I'm one of them, maybe its time we could do something about it?

Rumour Has It / Succession troops clash with Dark elves
« on: September 17, 2010, 06:02:23 am »
The Fifth Corax Guards Unit in support with the Rael border Guards north of Rangley have worked together to overcome a staging camp for a group of 150 dark elves.

Warned of the campsite by Succession scouts the Rael troops worked with the Guards Unit to surround the campsite and engage the Dark Elves.

The battle was fierce with 32 Succession soldiers killed or injured and 45 Rael soldiers also killed or injured. The enemy suffered heavy casualties before the rest capitulated and surrendered.

The remaining 27 dark elves have been marched to Fort Hold under heavy guard for trial by the Rofireinites stationed there.
