Wild Surge Inn / Bone dragon is on the hunt
« on: November 05, 2005, 09:13:00 am »
*posted in the Dalanthar inn*

"A warning to all adventurers who desire to travel north from Dalanthar. The bone dragon has apparently left his cave and waits for careless people to wander his way. He seems to spend most of his time close to the rocky outcrop that people can use to reach his lair."

// After talking with Xiao I realized that the dragon wasn't supposed to be where I encountered him and where he subsequently killed me. Since he saw me before I saw him, he has moved more closely to the rock that is used for climbing. So, better not go there.

Now, I realize a lot of wands were removed because they were very powerful and such. But I've looked through the available 1st, 2nd and 3rd level wands and think there are a few wands that could be added.

Here's my list, for what it's worth. I hope I got the DC for wands right, I assume it's 10 + spelllevel, with out the int-modifier.

Wand of remove blindness/deafness (5)

Was surprised it wasn't there, if it's there I really need some blindness removed. It would be a quite handy wand, I know the clarity wand can fix it as well, but for roleplay reasons I think it should be in.

Wand of lesser dispell (5) / Wand of Dispell (7)

Lesser dispell would be 1d20 + 5 vs a DC of 11 + enemy casterlevel

Dispell would be 1d20 + 7 vs a DC of 11 + enemy casterlevel.

A wand of dispell could be a bit too powerful, but a wand of lesser dispell would make a nice addition, I think.

Wand of cloud of bewilderment (5)

The duration would be 30 seconds and the DC would be 12, so not too powerful, except if you spam it... what suddenly makes me realize why it was taken out.

Wand of find traps (5)

Duration would only be 60 seconds, very usefull but probably wouldn't be fair too the people who actually put skillpoints in search and such.

Wand of Balagarn's iron horn (5)

Would be very funny, but too powerful probably.

Wand of Tasha's hideous laughter (5)

There is already a ring, so why not a wand... have I missed this one when checking the menu?

Wand of gust of wind (7)

Very nice wand to clear away acidfumes and the like. A dc of 13 against fighters will hardly make them fall over.

Wand of scintillating sphere (7)

Same as fireball, DC of 13, so why not. Happy mage if he can draw it if he's been ambushed by some earth elementals.

Wand of negative energy burst (7)

Same as the above, although the extra ability drain might make it too powerful.

So, that's basically my two cents on this. If I listed a wand that is already in the craftingmenu I probably missed it, when going through them all.

General Discussion / Owlbears natural creatures
« on: October 24, 2005, 06:00:00 pm »
Didn't want to ruin the IC-thread by posting there, so I'm posting it here.

http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=18862&posts=7

There is a discussion about a certain owlbear in the Red Light Goblincave. I saw a couple of posts, presumably from rangers, about nature fighting back. But, I thought that owlbears were not natural creatures, more like a displacer beast or an ettercap for example. Some result of a foul experiment that has broken free and spread through the wild.

So what are they? Natural creatures, abberations or magic beasts?

Just for Fun / Neverwinternights movie
« on: October 22, 2005, 05:21:00 pm »
I remember an old thread about which actors would play which chars in Layonara the movie.

Well, I'm going to say it.. who needs actors when you have NWN.

Some people are apprantly working on a movie made with NWN. It includes a very cool trailer and it really shows you NWN at its finest.

Fixed Bugs / Banishment
« on: October 19, 2005, 03:59:00 pm »
Daeron just levelled up to level 13 and took two new level 7 spells, shadowshield and banishment.

I just tried Banishment out today and I noticed it has not the same description as the Bioware spell.

It has an innate level of 4 and for sorcerors/wizards it is 5. Still, it is a level 7 spell.

The complete description matches dismissal, except for the name. It looks like it is exactly the same as dismissal, but just takes a higher spellslot. Normally it should also work on outsiders.

Banishment was an important spell for Daeron as I saw him. If this is just dismissal and doesn't work on outsiders it's completely useless.

I also noticed that the spell isn't mentioned in the campaign handbook. If this is really just dismissal, I'll have to ask for a relevel.

General Discussion / First screenshots of NWN 2 hitting the shelf
« on: October 11, 2005, 08:23:00 am »
If someone has a subscribtion on PC Gamer, I'm mighty jealous. Latest screenshots of NWN 2 will be shown in the latest issue. I've only found descriptions yet about the screenshots, but from what I've read dragons will never be the same. :)

General Discussion / Bad accounting
« on: October 06, 2005, 06:47:00 am »
Am I right to assume that this quest starts at 8.00 pm GMT (as showing on the forumclock).

It says 8 PM Mountain, but I don't really know what that means.

General Discussion / Drinking competition ended with a bang.
« on: September 16, 2005, 07:14:00 pm »
So.. yeah sorry about that. Didn't know what was happening until I suddenly saw Daeron conjuring flames. So I looked at the top of my screen and seeing the fireball icon made all the blood draw from my face. Kept clicking it, but alas to late.

I'm relieved that it wasn't the empowered fireball and that nobody got killed though.

Don't know if it happened before, but I'm certainly hoping it never happens again, especially in the middle of about a dozen people.

General Discussion / Chainmail as robe
« on: September 03, 2005, 08:55:00 am »
I'be been playing a lot with the armor crafting in the hall recently, all the differnt robes you can get there is amazing.

Kind of stumbled on the chainmail.... it just looks so great.. but, it's chainmail.

My wizard Daeron has been running around with it for some days, but well he's not supposed to wear them, is he?

Got a good pic of it here. The reason is I downloaded the old animations in the override file so I wouldn't crash as much. In these animations walking in robes just doesn't look alright. Therefore I wanted a robeless travelclothing for Daeron, so if he goes out he exchanges his robe for something more practical.

After some discussion and my own doubts I eventually changed it into an outfit of cloth.

http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/photos/show-album.asp?albumid=244&photoid=4028

But I'd like to know what other people's opininions are on this.

What's more important, realism or just having fun with your PC and putting them in the clothes you like?

General Discussion / Won't be on monday's quests
« on: August 14, 2005, 11:51:00 am »
I'm sorry to say I won't be on the next episode of Nightmare on Monday and the orcish horde for that matter. Saturday, I sprained my wrist on work and can not use it at all.

Of course it was the right one and being righthanded and all means I can barely get my shoelaces tied, let alone give good RP.

Sorry Stormspirit, I really would have liked to see your quest all the way through.

Well, at least now I know Rich Burley had a really good reason for not coming up with new OOTS when he sprained his wrist. Oh, and thank heavens for CAPSLOCK.

General Discussion / Shifter Prc
« on: August 04, 2005, 11:56:00 am »
I was wondering whether this Prc is still allowed. Because of previous posts I know some players have of have had them. It is not among the other Prc's in the player's section.

If it is allowed I will know what my next PC will be. ;)

General Discussion / Need to ask this
« on: August 02, 2005, 04:12:00 pm »
I don't want to nag, but if I don't ask it I don't think I ever dare to enter the nameless dungeon again.

So here I go. ;)

Today Taislin Woolhands organized an expedition in the nameless dungeon near Haven. Our first venture with relative lowlevels went very well, untill some people had to leave after which we couldn't continue and had to go back.

While the others went back my PC, Daeron stayed to explore the deeper levels of the dungeon to see what there was to find. When he returned he foudn the rest of the party still struggling to leave the upper level and he encountered creatures that hadn't been spawned before and much more than first.

This was the first point where I thought we got a little bit of good old DM attention.

A bit later we returned with a much larger and slightly higher leveled party.

Before I continue I must state that I think I don't die often, Daeron still having zero DT's.

But anyway, at the second venture, I couldn't help but notice the effectiveness of the creatures. My question is whether this was due to bad party tactics or a little bit of DM-guided carnage. At one point we were hit by a Xorn earthquake while as far as I know, nobody ever saw the Xorn. Apparently he did see us.

Really, I never died so often (3 time within 10 minutes, ouch, 32000 xp), the dungeoninhabiting Xorns being an important factor to that development.

So, I was still having a good time, but I just want to know if we as a party were fighting worse, or if a DM was helping the creatures a bit?

PS: I hope I'm not sounding to paranoid in this post

Wild Surge Inn / Spotted mushrooms
« on: July 21, 2005, 03:01:00 pm »
*A note hangs on the wall*

To anyone who knows of places where spotted mushrooms grow.

I, Daeron Stormcloud, offer a bronze ring inlaid with malachite to the first who offers me information about the places these mushrooms grow.

Roleplaying / Using dice for PvP friendly behaviour
« on: July 21, 2005, 04:53:00 am »
I have a question about how to use rolls in behaviour like pushing. I think Polak already mentioned it in the grievingsection and I agree that it's unfair that a player can just type *trips XYZ so that he falls in a puddle* or *spits on drow*.

I was wondering what kind of dice you should use to actually achieve the trip.

For instance must the one who is tripping the other roll his strength skill, which determines DC, after which the one tripped must roll his dexterity skill, determining whether he actually gets tripped.

The outcome would then much more resemble the characters builds and be much fairer.

I direct you to this article so that you can see what I am talking about. Note where the Geforce 4 Ti appears compared to where the 9800XT appears and the 9600. The Geforce 4 Ti is a generation before the 9600 and 9800.

Always new my videocard sucked big time, but I never imagined it to be this bad compared to others. Click the link and yes, I have the Radeon 9200 SE. :(

I'm really starting to wondering what I'm missing out concerning graphics. Is there anyone who has played NWN with 9200 SE and a better card?

« on: July 12, 2005, 01:09:00 pm »
Reboot, so I thought I'd post something on the forum. I think this prestige class is very interesting to be played on Layonara, since its history with dragons. And it's another good prestige class for bards.

The dragonsong lyrist taps into the power of dragonsong, an ancient form of performance that originated among the draconic races, to create strange and wondrous magical effects.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Revised mage armor
« on: July 11, 2005, 09:41:00 am »
If I'm not mistaken the spell mage armor in Layo gives an bonus of 1 to armor-, 1 to dodge-, 1 to deflection- and 1 to shieldbonus.

I'd like to suggest to change that to +4 armor bonus. I think it makes much more sense then the version being used. The only bonus that stacks is dodge and this is where I wonder why one gets a bonus to dodging because of a spell like mage armor.

Mages have been powered down a lot in Layo. Especially the lewlevel ones. I think that this change at least makes it a bit easier for the lowlevel mages.

Journal

It has been a week since I entered this world using the last charge of Arto's magic item. So far the people have been very friendly, although many of them are very peculiar indeed. It feels good to be in the company of humans again. My decade of exile has left my skills in, as they call it, "light talk" a little hampered.

It feels good though, to finally be able to use my magic in an offensive manner instead of using it to keep me save and away from monsters. I do have trouble however to put it to good use when fighting along with the many fighters that live in Hlint. They show a great understanding of battletactics, something I'm yet not very familiar with.

I met some interesting people already. The most peculiar one was a goblin, some of them appear to be tolerated by the townfolk. His name is Vorkresh and was quite interested in magic. I don't know whether the goblin will ever succeed in mastering magic, but he does appear to be smarter then most of his kind.He also made quite a charming travelcompanion. Is disturbs me somewhat that after a decade I find it easier to make contact with a goblin then with a human. I don't know whether this is something I'll have to accept for what it is or something that will pass in time.

The only humans I made a little contact with are a rogue, named Ra'vair and a man called Anault. Anault strikes me as an odd fellow, he refuses to remove his helmet so I'm not sure what he really is. He does seem to combine the art of magic with the art of the sword, a very talented man indeed. I hope to explore some of the region in the future. Untill now my only venture out of the town has been in the goblincave.

I know one thing for sure, I cannot survive in the wild without help, so I shall have to accept it whenever it is offered.
