General Discussion / Evil Rollcall?« on: October 23, 2011, 12:32:00 pm »
Hiya All,
Just started an Evil character and am having a difficult time finding a group. Fortunately my son has a CN character so we can travel about a bit. What I'm looking for is maybe people who have Evil characters to post here and I can set up an event maybe once a week so we can travel about. I'm rather (and so is my character) bored with the few places me and my son's character can go. And it's tough to RP an evil PC when no one else around is evil... Basically I'm trying to get a list of who has Evil characters so I can PM everyone and get something together for us to do! My Character: NE Cleric/Rogue of Branderback My Son's: CN Fighter/ Rogue mercenary Thanks, Merlin34 24
Ask A Gamemaster / Branderback Questions« on: October 18, 2011, 01:51:49 pm »
Hello!
Looking for everyone's opinions here, so post if you have thoughts! I just started playing a worshipper of Branderback and my first evil character and am having a few issues on how to deal with RPing an evil character, so your thoughts would be appreciated so I can ensure I am playing him within what is intended, especially since he's a cleric! Being as Branderback's main goals are greed... 1. Would my character travel with a group that had enemy aligned folks in it, such as a paladin of Rofie, if he knew he would profit from the trip? My initial thoughts: ...gotta have folks in the frontlines to die for you so you can escape unharmed... 2. Would he heal his deities enemies if he knew it would serve to further his goals of wealth and greed? My initial thoughts: ...got to keep the paladin upright til we hit the treasure, then on the way out if he falls he falls... A general question on Branderback... Is he considered one of the evil deities of Layo and thus the laws stating that he can be arrested and punished for his beliefs true? I just was unsure if Branderback fell in the same category as Corath in world views... which of course would change some of my initial reactions to the questions I posed above I suppose. My Thanks, Merlin34 25
Ask A Gamemaster / horses and the arena« on: October 02, 2011, 01:35:31 pm »
Hiya!
If you fight mounted in the arena and die will your horse die? I know dieing while mounted kills the horse when adventuring (I think). Teo finally got a pony and we were thinking of having a mounted battle in the arena, but we want to avoid killing 36,000 Trues worth of livestock. Thanks, Merlin34 26
Development Journals and Discussion / Blackwater's Journal« on: September 26, 2011, 03:07:34 pm »
For Posterity:
Character: Maren Blackwater Age: 25 Gender: Male Classes: Rogue/Cleric Race: Halfling Alignment: Neutral Evil Deity: Branderback Domains: Trickery Evil Biography: Maren had been living in the alleys of Hurm for as long as he could remember, living off of what he could steal or con out of people. He had a very loose group of "friends" that did the same, though the bond was more out of necessity than friendship in reality. He quickly learned that the way to survive was to have no morals and do whatever was necessary to survive, whether lieing, cheating, or roughing up the neighborhood children for the few coins in their purses. His small stature helped him when it came to the jobs they did to survive. He had no idea who his parents were or how he came to be a street urchin in Hurm. One day Maren awoke in a small concealed room in the bottom of an Inn's cellar behind a cask of wine. His head was throbbing, his tongue swollen, tasting of blood. A man stood over him chanting slightly with a half grin on his face. How he got here he did not know. The last thing he remembered was loosening the belt of a drunken man in an alley for his coin purse. The man chanted some more and Maren looked up, unable to speak due to his swollen tongue. He heard a few words though... "Let my acts be hidden in the shadows of the night". The man seemed to glow for a moment before he layed his hands on Maren. The man was a Doc of Branderback. Maren felt a small tingle of energy and his aching head began to subside. The man looked down on him and gave a crooked semi smile. Maren blinked a couple more times and fell into a gentle, healing sleep. It seems that Maren had been caught by the drunken man while trying to lift his purse and was beaten mercilessly for it. Some other alley dwellers had witnessed the beating and drug him out of the trashcan that the man had thrown him in after the beating. The two men who fished him out recognized Maren for his part in several petty crimes they had committed together and took him to the Inn and the small special concealed room below it, where a traveling priest of Branderback was due to come that day. After several days Maren began to feel better. The man though was gone. Maren looked around the room, all of his personal belongings were gone, his belt, knife and coin purse, all gone. He cursed and sat up. I'll find him he thought to himself. He had been robbed, and nothing was worse to a robber than to be robbed. He struggled to his feet and opened the door to the basement of the disheveled inn. The first thing he did was search the place for anything he could take. He found some small bits of half eaten bread and quickly ate them. In one corner was a cutting table with an old rusty knife on it, he slipped it down one of his rotting boots. A few apples lay on the cutting table and he took those too. He looked about, how to get out? He didn't even know what Inn he was in. Then he spotted the small window with bars on it, with a latch on the inside. He opened it, crammed his body through and emerged in a semi familiar alley way in Hurm. He then went in search of the man who had robbed him. It took a fortnight of searching through the worst of the worst alleys in Hurm before one day he encountered the man in an Inn drinking ale. Maren did what he always did, blended into the crowd and waited his opportunity. The man left a bit tipsy after multiple ales and Maren followed intending to get his blade back that he could see sticking from the man's belt. He waited for the man to turn down an alley way before he snuck up behind him and crammed his rusty blade in the back of his knee. He man let out a little yelp and turned and smiled his crooked grin. The man struck Maren in the nose knocking him across the alley way. Marens head bounced off the wall and he went unconscious. Upon waking he was again in some deserted backroom or storeroom, he did not know which, but he was bound and tied. The man looked up at him from some pamphlets he was reading. The man began to explain very slowly that Maren was now his to command, his to own. Thw man started to explain what Marens new role was, that of the man's "assistant". Nothing the man said that was expected of him was anything different than what Maren had been doing his whole life. The man expected him to help him make coins, whether through beating, maiming, stealing, lieing, extortion, what have you. What the man did say though was that he could teach Maren the ways of the Hound if he felt him worthy. They began to travel together, with Maren doing most of the small time thefts while the man healed and prayed. The man gained entry to the hovels and earned the trust of the alley dwellers through his prayers to Branderback, and his healing abilities. Maren began to trust the man with no name more and more, well as much as you could trust one who practically enslaved you. Maren began to say the prayers with the No Named Man as he prayed over the ruffians of Hurm. Maren became more and more devote to the Wary Shadow god. In the back of his mind though he still wanted revenge on the man for forcing him into this perpetual servitude. The No Named Man eventually let Maren take over in the wrapping of wounds and broken bones while the Man watched. A small miracle occured one day however, as Maren touched a man to wrap his wounds he felt the same small tingle leave his hands and the man went to sleep in peace. //the first small bit of Clerical Magic bestowed by the Hound// They were in a backroom one day healing and praying over a man whose gut had been spilt open by the town guard when suddenly the door was kicked in by the town militia. Maren instantly hid behind a wine cask as the guards shouted at the No Named Man and the poor bleeding man on the floor. They accused the No Name Man of aiding a criminal and threw him in handcuffs. Maren stayed silent in the shadows grinning never once even thinking of helping the No Named Man, revenge was his at long last. They hauled off the No Named Man for execution in the public square after running a blade through the bleeding man on the spot. Maren did not flinch. After they left Maren searched the body and the room and took what little he could and set back out into the night knowing the the Hound would protect him and muttered a prayer... "Let my acts be hidden in the shadows of the night, so that I may gain that which is rightfully mine." 1. I have read and understand the Branderbacks philosophies 2. Maren interprets these philosophies for exactly what they are, which is for personal gain in all aspects of life. His life as a cleric/rogue of Branderback is to make as many contcts as possible, and indebt as many people as possible to further Marens own aims, which is personal wealth and power 3. Maren will wear black leather armor, carry a bow, create poisons for his arrows to weaken his enemies, and carry small blades for personal self defense and the occasional ally way robbery No noble ties, nothing comming to him in any form 27
Ask A Gamemaster / Stuff in persistent chest not mine« on: September 17, 2011, 02:01:34 pm »
Hello,
Upon opening Blue's bank crate for the first time there's bolts of darksilk and a few regular darksilks in it. Neither of which I put in it, plus a suit of cougar leather. Should I just trash the items or could possibly my bank chest be linked to someone elses? I remember a problem way long time ago where chests got scrambled and I had all sorts of nifty stuff in mine that definatly were not my items. My Thanks, Merlin34 28
Ask A Gamemaster / Spell Resistance« on: September 16, 2011, 12:39:00 pm »
Can someone tell me what exactly spell resistance does? I have an item that grants 20 SR. I also have 35 spell craft and had heard that SC adds to spell resistance but don't know how much. So I guess my question is... mechanically what does SR do?
Thanks! Merlin34 29

I know this is a dumb question and I should know the answer.... but what do I have to do to get a head changed IG. Tyrian is older now and needs just a hair color change to grey, no head change. Do I need to just find a GM IG or post for an OK to do it?
Oh and one word answers are ok! Thanks, Merlin34 31

Trade and Market Hall / Need a mithril tower sheild?« on: July 14, 2011, 06:34:11 pm »
*a note is tacked up near the finer crafting forges*
Need a mithril tower shield? Upon taking inventory in my store I came across this shield, slightly used by an old acquaintance of mine, long forgotten in my personal crates. I require no coins for it. What I require is either an emerald ring or a mithril short sword of fine quality with a greater fire enchantment applied to the blade. If you have an offer of coins a deal can be worked, as long as the amount will pay for one of the two items listed above. Please send word to the Twin Dragon Inn care of Alton Tealeaf or Tyrian Baldu'muur. My Thanks, Tyrian Baldu'muur Proprietor of the Twin Dragon Inn Firestarter 33
General Discussion / Patch 1.69 (need smarter folks than me!)« on: July 09, 2011, 04:23:31 pm »
Hiya smart folks...
My friend just changed my computer to windows 7. I redownloaded everything needed to play and did a fresh install of the game but for the life of me I can find the patch to 1.69 anywhere. Biowares website is, um, lacking... I still have my laptop to play on but was hoping to get my desktop back in order! Oh and why in the world does Google chrome not let you see the drop down menus on the forums? Thinking of going back to firefox just cause of this! Thanks, Merlin34 34
Development Journals and Discussion / Blue's Non-Writings« on: July 04, 2011, 03:20:01 pm »
For posterity:
Character: Blue Lonepine Age: 18 Gender: Male Class: Ranger Race: Human Alignment: Chaotic Good Biography: The Emporium Mine had been running for years, though not real profitably, and it wasn't much of a mine, rather a stream diverted through wooden boxes with screens in them. The father and son panned for gold and ran a stream though wire mesh screens provided them with Trues only for the bare essentials. To supplement their meager income they fished the nearby streams and trapped animals for their meat and fur. They were typical simple mountain men, his father traveled to the nearest trading post only when necessary to sell the meager gold nuggets and cured hides. While they were mining one day, working the stream, poking through the gravel in the strainers his father had a heart attack and keeled headfirst into the stream and was washed away. Blue chased down the stream but could not catch up to the body. He had been raised that death was a part of life, the same as the animals and fish they hunted, so somehow his fathers death seemed natural to him. Blue returned to their ramshackle shack that set near the stream, where his mother had died during childbirth 18 years before. He opened the rickety door and looked around. He knew that he had to get to the trading post soon as winter was coming and his food supply was low. He packed but the cured furs and the little gold dust they had saved and headed in the direction that his father traveled to the trade post. Unfortunately he had never been to the trade post before, and took a wrong turn at one of the mountain passes. As he neared the bottom of the mountains he couldn't believe what he saw. Buildings as bid as some mountains he had seen, he was amazed! Blue started off into the city forgetting all about his little shack in the mountains... and the adventure began in a city named Center. Personality: Lacking in social skills because of the isolation of the mountains. Lacking in personal hygiene due to the isolation of the mountains. Loves to be outdoors and fish and hunt game for pelts and food. Basically your typical mountain man trying to reconcile his mountain ways with the strangeness of civilization. //he has no noble ties, no nothing but the animal skin clothing on his back// 35
