Ancients Legacy / More upheavals "up there"
« on: July 09, 2015, 08:36:18 am »
Though somewhat known for its variability, the group of stars known as Giantess' Supremacy has made a rather unsuspected change. Unlike other movements in the skies quite some time ago, the constellation representing Grannoch in the heavens simply appeared in a new location come nightfall. The original hexagonally-shaped conjunction that formed several years ago remains intact, but Grannoch's constellation now joins them, taking up position outside the grouping and situated near to those pertaining to Prunilla and Deliar. And while too the colors of Giantess' Supremacy are known to shift with the seasons, the individual stars are now observed to be yellow, blue, white or red, with no two observers seeming to agree on which of the fifteen stars in the grouping shine with a given color.

Rumour Has It / Angels - A Detour From Somewhere to Somewhere Else
« on: July 06, 2015, 11:31:36 pm »
A bedraggled halfling with mud nearly to her knees uses a runed walking stick to knock at the "Angels Only" (so to speak) door in the fields. Beside her is a horse who looks to have been better taken care of than herself, despite its old scars. She eyes the lock thoughtfully, rattling the keys at her waist, but then mutters to herself and gestures to make a considerably more impressive series of booming sounds than her more mundane attempts.HALLOOOO! I need to see a man about a Door! And things. And maybe a discount. ALSO IS MOUSTACHE IN?

((Apologies that I cannot be in-game until Thursday at the earliest, so I thought I would take to the forum.))

Introduce Yourself / Hello!
« on: June 27, 2015, 06:16:47 pm »
Hi everyone!

Thought I would introduce myself. I'm Edd and I've been a long time fan of Neverwinter Nights. I've played it on and off over the years and just came across Layonara online. I'm fairly new to roleplaying and hope you guys would be patient with me as I'm learning the ropes. I'm trying to get a few of my mates interested in playing Layonara online so we can play together. It's a shame it's not more of a popular server! The impression I get here is a high quality and fun server, the crafting system sounds fun too! I'm going to have a think about my character and what sort of story and background s/he should have. Plus, I'll do some reading around the lore and look at some of the maps to try and get them to fit in somehow.

So, Hi everyone! It's nice to meet you all!

Edd

Ancients Legacy / Ancients Legacy -- Finale Preparation -- IMPORTANT
« on: June 24, 2015, 10:01:38 pm »
All,As a reminder, the Ancients Legacy Plot Finale will happen on Saturday, July 11th, 2015. We are planning on a quest of about three (3) hours...ideally less than that...hopefully not much more. The last of the wrap-up RP from the prior quest session is concluded. We're now just over two weeks away from the Finale event itself, you have a goal (and if you don't have any idea what it is, ask someone), you have some idea what you might face (ditto), but if you do nothing to prepare before the quest (last minute investigations, following of clues/suggestions, seeking assistance, etc.), you will be at a significant disadvantage when the Finale starts. To that end, and because Rowana and I have a lot to do to prepare for this and little time to do it, please get all your requests, questions, desired actions and intentions to Rowana and I no later than Saturday, July 4, 2015 to ensure we have ample time to respond and address them. Any requests received after July 4th will be handled on an as-possible basis, and we cannot guarantee they will receive the necessary attention after this date. We will make every best effort to wrap up anything started prior to that date.In addition, at least one of us is generally on IRC throughout most of the day and evening, Central US time, so that is a viable option for asking us plot-related things. This also works well for brief interactions with NPCs.Simply put, that with which you collectively start the quest will have a direct impact on your chances of success.  If you wait until the day of the quest to rally support or figure out where you're going, you will eat into the time set aside for the quest, and your chances will be far less than if these things are at least initiated before the quest. Please plan accordingly. With that all said, our PM boxes are open!

General Discussion / Considering a return
« on: June 16, 2015, 08:34:43 am »
So its been a few years but having never found a better server for RP by both players and DM's alike I am considering a return.I am well all is said and done butt a** lazy though so have a few questions....Are my characters still avilable and if so can I play them or will I need to create new ones?Is the stuff my characters still had still accessable by them?  Not expecting them to have retained a house or anything, more bank accounts and storage.Where/how is the best way to discover what has been happening while I was away.  I'm dyslexic so a wall of forum posts will make me go watch TV instead :D

Rumour Has It / Rare Artifact offered for sale
« on: May 14, 2015, 11:02:28 pm »

Word among collectors of antiquities, artifacts and all things unusual is that several pre cataclysm art pieces are being authenticated and readied for sale via a Hound Auction. Time and date of the auction to be announced from the Vine and Dove, Leringard.

It has also be noted that Toranite Commander Stormhaven has been seen frequenting the Vine and Dove seemingly to enjoy its amenities .

Introduce Yourself / Returning after 10+ years
« on: April 19, 2015, 06:14:06 pm »
Hello everyone. I played Layonara probably at least 10 years ago. Went through some rough times and am looking forward to getting back into Layonara. I've sometimes thought of the game over the years and wondered how it has progressed. I'm really excited to experience the world again (probably with a lot of additions and changes!) and RP with y'all. If my understanding is correct, I'll just need to wait until someone approves me using one of the pre-made characters from the Stable, then I'll be given the password to direct connect to the server IP? I sure hope so, I'm ready!(Edit: It seems that the GOG version of NWN Diamond all use the same CD Key during installation and you must personally contact them for a unique key. Is this going to cause a problem when I try to play Layonara? I no longer have the game boxes which had my original keys. I hope it won't be a problem. Nothing else ever came close to the experiences I had in Layonara and I'm very eager to get back in the game!)

Layonara Server / The NWN Servers are going to be moved
« on: December 04, 2014, 06:55:48 pm »
Hello everyone,I hope you and your loved ones are all well.I've recently been able to secure a great deal for the NWN Server on a much faster machine on a Black Friday special so we're going to be moving it over there some time in the near future.I'd like to get the server up and tested this month so we can confirm that everything is okay to go and I can cancel our previous account before the end of the month. I haven't yet set an exact date and time but I'm thinking maybe late Friday or Saturday night this week.Players shouldn't notice any difference, you will still connect to xora.layonara.com (5121 or 5122).  The IP address will change if you use that but I'll inform you of the new one when the time comes. This may also mean we can revert to automatic cross-server portals without crashes which might be nice but we'll have to test that. The new server will only cost $40 a month in donations so we can hopefully extend NWN Layonara at a fairly inexpensive price for as long as folks still enjoy coming here. For those curious and in the tech know:Existing server is a 4GB RAM, Dual 2.53GHz CPU, 250GB SATA HD running Windows 2k3 Server dedicated system.New server is a 10GB RAM, 10 2.3GHz CPU, 100GB Turbo SSD HD running Windows 2k8 Server cloud server. My initial tests have the servers starting up in half the time the old ones did. I'm not sure how much this will help lag and larger groups but we'll hopefully be able to test that. All the best,-orth

Ancients Legacy / Back Tracking
« on: December 10, 2014, 03:14:28 pm »
*With a two-day old trail there is some haste in this old dwarf's gate.  He passes the elder elf's clothing and personals to Blizzard and Katrina for the wolf and Quenton's panther to smell.  Zigruum offers a few barks and belts out a long howl as Blizzard dashes off through the gate wense the elf had come through. Quenton as well bends down caressing his feline friend and after a brief conversation, mostly purring and meowing, the large cat heads out the gate right behind Blizzard.  Zig then leans on his wood staff and knocks back a tankard of good dwarf ale smiling to Quenton.  He waves his mug to the others in the group, Acacea, Iri, Plenarius, Griff and Sehky looking for their imput.*"Der on de trail if der still be one.  Folks wanna ask around te de gaurds and others bout de old elf's comin' and goin's now be de toime.  We set out on de pointy eared ones backtrail as soon as ye tidy up ye investigations er' but nae be idle on eht.  We stay te much longer Griff gonna get his axe out."*He chuckles to Griff and then smiles to the others offering a respectful nod to Plen*

Ancients Legacy / The next day in North Hampton, Vanavar
« on: November 20, 2014, 11:36:33 pm »
The day after their visit with Biela and Ilselferi Dsearilaêny', Daniel, Tyra, Katelyn, Grog and Stygian pay another visit to the home.  The door is answered by Biela, who is very clearly in a somber, reserved mood.  She invites you all inside and bids you all to make yourselves comfortable, apologizing for her home's limited comforts and offering tea and breakfast. She disappears into the kitchen before any answers can be made or questions asked, emerging several minutes later with a large tray heavily laden with a teapot and simple but apparently freshly-made pastries. She sets the load on the table and dutifully pours a cup for everyone. Taking a slow breath to steady herself, she thanks you all for bringing news of Era, however dire it may have been, and she informs you that the visit, however brief, brought some small joy to Grandfather on his final night. She says he woke sometime after everyone left and asked after you, expressing a wish to speak again of the past.  "He passed in peace in the night," she says. "exhaling the last breath of his life, never to draw in another."  Though she speaks with sadness in her voice and in her expression, there is also a comfort and closure in speaking such words. "He is with Aeridin now. What remains will be put to ground tomorrow."

Rumour Has It / On the wind...
« on: November 14, 2014, 02:49:30 pm »
Hoof beats echo on the sound of the wind. Flashes of beautiful women turn into simple glimpses of trees evocatively shaped trees. Is that a forest fire? No it's just a swirl of Autumn leaves in the breeze... http://layonara.com/calendar/event/on-the-wind

General Discussion / Layonara Itch
« on: November 14, 2014, 12:38:25 pm »
Hello everyone, I'm an old timer in layonara. It looks like it's been years since I used to play in these halls (or servers). And after all these years (5+ I believe) I found some free time at the end of this year to revisit some old games, and I got an itch to revisit two rp servers that I remember being fond of, Layonara and Prisioner os the Mist.

Does Layo still runs on nwn? Are there ongoing quests at this time? Are the servers alive? I'm itching to create a CG cleric of Kithairien, that I fondly remember being one of the gods of layonara that I "imported" to my own pnp setting (actually something of a little mix of kithairien and the hunter aspects of folian). If you're curious Ilsare, holy symbol and all, was another one of the "imported" gods, and a little darker and edgier version of xeen was the last of the three.

At the time I had some nice adventures with Eliza, my druid. I wonder if the people she knew still exist in the game!

Ancients Legacy / Into thin heir
« on: November 11, 2014, 11:56:45 pm »
"I tell ya what," says a merchant in a crowded inn to his table mate. "I ne'er wanted t' grow 'nother setta eyes more'n I do now, what with all the vanishin's.""The blazes you on about now?" asks the other, looking rather skeptical and even slightly confused by the turn of the conversation."Where ya been, lad?" replies the first, showing some disbelief at the other's response. "Ain' ya been hearin' about all thems that's gone missin'? It's a bloody edi...epin...Bah! Whatever ya call a sickess spreadin' all over like.  It's like that, I say!""Yer drunk, ya ol' sod," says the other. "People go missin' all th' time. Most of 'em show right on back up with a good reason.  They just ain' good at tellin' folks where they's goin'.""Nay, this is diff'rent...an' more of it," says the first. "I jus' got in from Khemit a few days ago. One o' them Silverguard cap'ns 'ad 'imself a quite right stack o' reports and goin' through 'em wit' 'er Second.  They was sortin' out the odd ones from the usual ones, if that ain' a kick in the pants. I heard half a fam'ly is just gone, one righ' after t' other, like.""'alf a fam'ly, ya say?" replies the second. "Mebee they's out lookin' fer the first one that went gone, hey?"The first grumbles a little and takes a pull from his tankard. "Could be...but it's all righ' strange, iff'n yer askin' me.  Bad fer business, I tell ya.  Bad fer me well-bein' too.  First the stars, then folks settin' stuff on fire an' such, an' now this.  Hate to say it, but somma dem crackpots mighta been onto somethin' from the off.""Now I know yer drunk," says the second, rolling his eyes a little. "or yer needin' another." Before the first could respond either way, the second is already flagging down the barmaid."Well I won' be arguin' that if yer buyin'.""Now yer talkin' some sense, at leas'.""Ne'er know when it might be my last...""..."

//If only I had half the wit and wisdom of Edgar Allan Poe! //

Deh Raven by Mangus Crunch

Er wanted to go
In deh blithering snow
To deh pits of er icy cavern
What Er din' knows
Was deh cold nearly froze
Me fingers as dey clutched me lantern

Along deh way
Corky an me,
An'Gisom was fight'n Goblins.
Dey weren't  afraid
Of me club an' dey blades
So's dey smashed me on me noggin!

An' some how Er saw him
While Er was er brawl'n
On er tree branch nearby,
Deh Raven!

But Er paid him no mind,
Spend'n me time,
Smash'n dem goblin's skulls in.
An' Gisom an' me
An' dat dere Corky
Was bust'n dey bones all in!

But den deh cold
Starts tak'n er hold
An Er quickly git's to freez'n
We was fight'n  some Wargs
Giv'n dem our worst
When suddenly again... Er see's him!

Up in er tree
As plain as can be
Dat ominous bird
Deh Raven...

But Corky an' Gisom
Was too busy given'm
Wargs er senseless beat'n
Dey was in er hurry
So Er din' worry
No thought to any retreat'n

Den giants we found
An' dey comes around
Bang'n  me head in deh snow
When Er hits deh ground
Er looks around
An' Er seen him wouldn't yew know?

Dat black bird of night
He gimme er fright
Just er star'n me down
Deh Raven...

Now Lucky for me
Quickly Corky
Done picked me up an' saved me!
While Gisom was smash'n
Dem giants, Er drank er batch er
Dem potions what Corky gave me!

Den Er see's up ahead
Deep in deh dead
Of deh cold, er icy figure!
He's stand'n dere wait'n
To smash me Orc face in,
With a fistful of clenched icy fingers!

Er thought struck me mind
While he struck me blind
Dat he had been sent by...
Dat Raven

Er nearly died
We barely survived
When somehow Gisom beat him
An Er was relieved
When Er finally seen
Him lay'n there defeated

We was slow to recover
From dat icy bugger
But after some time we was leav'n
As we left it got colder.
Er looked over me shoulder
To see if Er could see'm,

Deh black winter foul
Who was out on the prowl,
In dat cold, cold place,

Deh Raven...

Ancients Legacy / Dig Site
« on: October 26, 2014, 10:09:10 am »

The area of the site stretches across four horse lengths by another four. The ground has a low incline, appearing almost level compared to the rest of the surrounding mountainous land. Within the dig site, there is very little marked. A cloth has been pulled over a patch of land and folded up, revealing a wall segment. It juts up fromt the rest of the land like a partially buried boulder - however, the surface is somewhat smoothed. On its leftmost side as one faces the rock from its buried bottom, the edge of the rock cuts across some carvings, making them indecipherable or incomplete (as is the wall, obviously), but the pattern of four of the seven constellations currently in question remain visibly carved firmly into the wall by some unknown hand. Goran, Lucinda, Deliar, and Aragen, appearing in the places they might in the sky at this time.

After they've spoken for some time, and Katelyn has suggested her plan, Acacea rubs her cheek and looks around.

So... just to recap before you try that! There was probably some kinda wall somewhere before the Breaking, whether a temple or a shrine or even just a wall standing by itself to look neat, and it had the latest constellation patterns on it, which only became interesting when ...it became the latest constellation patterns on it! Probably all seven, though we're guessing 'cause Shindy, Dorand, and Prunilla have not made it with the rest of the wall... all blown up and such... See, what DID make it intact is like the sky right now! Or would be, were it dark! So a pretty good guess!

But things were flung from all over and valleys became mountains and there were volcanos and there were landmasses broken and islands sunk and all sorts of stuff in the Cataclysm, so we don't know where this wall was before, that we could look more into to see if there was some kind of prophecy stuff happening there!

So! The cat person said it most probably came from down and not up, and we'd have to go down. Ferrit's granddaughter (I need something shorter!) wants to try using the Couple's connection to see if we couldn't find where Prunilla went, though hopefully she's not just sand at this point...

Myself, I do not really have much else here, I think. The casters said it wasn't magic - maybe it was magic when it was whole, MAYBE, but it's not now, and I don't really have anything to go on, either! My other thing is that I was hoping there would be some magical hint here that tied the goings-on with the missing people. All we could divine ...or... they... could divine... She sighs. was that at least two were alive, and the recent boy is somewhere dark, maybe below. I'd like to know how the other one the lady looked at was 'different', too.

Even if these are not connected, I would like them found safe! There might be more we could look for by finding more missing peoples and trying to work backwards or combine focuseseses. So I think we've only got more questions, so we might as well hop to looking for things that might point us towards some answers... Whether hand-holdy holy water prayers, missing persons hunts, pre-cataclysmic map hunting, digging, legend hunting, and so on!

She smiles brightly. Unfortunately, a lot of that is, from what I hear, things people have been trying to do already with the stars changing, with no luck so far. So! Carry on...
