Trade and Market Hall / Hops for Sale

*Arynne comes across an old posting of hers and gently untacks it, having found a buyer for the hops she had on hand, but leaves a small card in its place letting interested parties know where she can be contacted if they are looking for someone to supply them with hops*

Development Journals and Discussion / A Bundle of Letters
« on: September 30, 2007, 05:35:00 pm »
*the following letters are written mostly in hesitant Elven, with the occasional Common word or phrase slipped in*

Dear Mother,

I am sorry I have not been to the temple this waxing and waning of the bright twin moons. Life has been busy on this side of the ocean. Adria grows so big -- I wish with all my heart that I could bring her to you! When I have a safe path found, or when her feet grow quiet enough so as not to attract the attention of the giants of the tall forests, then I shall bring her to you.

She is grown very pretty, and her hair has grown on her head at finally. It is raven wing coloured, and her eyes are blue sky. Here is a drawing I have had made of her by him who came into the Leringard Arms for a drink one night when she was playing there and I was working. From it you can see her beauty, and it is in truth very like to her. To him who made the drawing of person [in Common] (The portrait, that is) [in Elven] I give to him one free drink as a token of my happiness to him.

*the page ends, and placed between it and the next page in the stack is a lovely sketch of a pretty little toddler playing by a hearth. It has been done mostly in charcoal, but some pigmented substances of unknown origin have been used to give the hearth's fire and the baby girl's cheeks a rosy glow, and to hint at the toddler's azure eyes. The next page of the letter continues in the same tidy script and halting Elven*

Little Adria will not be little for very much longer. She grows so fast like the children of my father's people. For now, though, she is still a baby girl, and she is very dear to me and all of us at the Leringard home. She is greatly fond of her "uncles" and "auntie", but seems curious about her "Foli Granny". This is her name for you, as she knows you habit at the Temple of Folian. I think she does not know he is a god, howevers, as she also calls Folian the little wolf for holding that I have made her out of the overlefts of an armor wolf skins.

*a crude sketch of a little girl holding a fluffy stuffed wolf is added at this point, as if the author is aware of the dubious nature of her translation and wishes to make certain she is understood*

I am speaking of Elven whenever I have chances these days. Sometimes the patrons of the Leringard Arms are also speaking of Elven, and this gives me happiness. Times of other, I speak in mothertongue of Elven to travelling friends. Today I also met an elf in town named Ellena who was speaking of Elvens. She gives her home as Silkwood, and Silkwood, she is a very pretty forest. Soon, the human Ron who is also a ranger and myself, Arynne, will show others the beauty of her the forest Silkwood and others. All should know how Folian gives his beauty to the world, and share in his teachings and gifts. This is also how I serve the wolf god when I am not bringing gifts to his temples. I show others the path the wolf walks, so that they might choose also to walk the wolf forest path.

I shall stop my writings on this page here, as the candle time burns low and the moons shine high in the sky. I send you all the love of my heart on this page, and will visit you the next I come to Vale and the Folian Temple. I have things I wish to tell you that are best not written, in case other eyes look at these pages. But I will tell you that a deep worry lives in my heart these days, since I found a secret in the swamp near Katherian. When next I come to the temple, I will speak with her clerics and wise ones, and perhaps they can kill the worry that now lives in my heart.

I shall visit you soonest.

Daughter of yours,
Arynne

General Discussion / Free Pie!
« on: September 26, 2007, 05:58:23 pm »
Ahem ... now that I have your attention ...

I'm going to be running an RP event next Friday (Oct. 5) with another player, and since not everyone checks the player event calendar, I thought I would post it here as well.

The event will be a guided nature walk by two rangers, one of Folian S'pae and one of Katia. Little to no combat, just good old RP and lots of interaction with animals. We've even scheduled it after Lord of the Forest's Friday quest, so anyone wanting to make it can.

So, if you've ever wanted to have your character see a wolf up close or feed a deer an apple, now's your chance!

(And just so no one will accuse me of false advertising, there will be free slices of pie, all baked by Arynne, and maybe even a few drinks around a campfire afterwards.)

Hope to see some of you there!

If there are any questions, please post them in this thread, too.

Just for Fun / A very silly logic puzzle
« on: March 18, 2007, 11:42:38 pm »
Apologies in advance. This is a very silly little logic puzzle. We'll say that it's in honor of the new character approvers. :)

A new character submission describes the family relations of a female elf. She has three full siblings (same mother and father) and no half siblings. She has one half-elven brother, one half-elven sister, and a human brother.

What were the races of her mother and father, respectively?

Feel free to post your answer. First person to solve it gets a cookie! Well no, not really. But you can give yourself a cookie. ;)

Fixed Bugs / Character Submission Wizard
« on: March 18, 2007, 05:26:19 am »
Hello there,

I recently attempted to post my latest character submission using the character submission wizard. I accessed the wizard from the link on the sticky in the character submission forum, filled in all the parts applicable to me and entered my bio. I then previewed my post, which seemed fine, and attempted to post it.

I was redirected to the main layonara page. Upon trying the whole process again, the same thing occurred. I posted my submission in the traditional way, but I thought I should let someone know that there may be a problem with the wizard. Please let me know if I can provide you with any further information on the topic.

Thanks,
Carillon

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / Wanted: Tutor of Elven
« on: March 13, 2007, 04:48:05 am »
*A small notice, penned neatly in Common, is tacked to the bulletin board*

To whom it may concern:

I am seeking a tutor of the elven language to refine my pronunciation, expand my vocabulary, and further master the intricacies of this difficult tongue. It should be noted that I already have some experience with this language, and understand it well enough to follow most conversations. As such, I primarily wish to improve my spoken and written elven, so tutors specializing in improving comprehension need not apply.

Ideally, the applicant should be a native speaker as accent is important to me. Those proximate to Port Hempstead, Fort Wayfare, Fort Vehl, and the neighbouring cities and towns will be given preference in the application process, with those located elsewhere on Mistone considered if no other suitable candidates apply. Those applicants residing on a continent other than Mistone need not apply, except in cases where they are willing to travel or temporarily relocate to a more convenient locale.

I am not wealthy and cannot offer any significant compensation for this position. However, I am certainly willing to negotiate towards a small weekly salary or other means of remuneration once the successful applicant proves himself or herself a competent instructor.

Those interested in the position may contact Arynne Liadon by ground post, bird, or in person to discuss the matter further.

My thanks for your attention.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Fish -- Not just for fillets anymore!
« on: January 16, 2007, 06:35:19 pm »
As an aspiring fisher (the person kind, not to be confused with the cute furry ones in the Dinen Forest), I have been delighted and amazed by the variety of fish I have been able to pull out of the rivers and lakes of Layonara's continents.

However, I have noticed that one is somewhat limited in the ways available to prepare said fish. Consequently, I propose (only half in jest ;)) a series of new recipes.

Honey Smoked Salmon (baker's oven):

1 honey
1 branch hickory
2 pepper
4 salt
1 fillet salmon

Stuffed Trout:

1 trout fillet
1 steamed rice
4 white mushrooms
1 butter

Pickled Herring:

1 herring fillet
6 salt
1 clove garlic

Hickory Plank Carp: (named after the recipe from Lake Ontario, after which you eat the plank and throw away the fish)

1 carp fillet
1 hickory plank (already craftable through woodcrafting, of course)
2 salt
2 pepper
1 sage leaf

Battered Bass (The original "Fish and Chips"!)

1 bass fillet
1 corn oil
1 Broken Knuckle Beer
1 chicken egg
2 wheat meal

(Chips may also be added if a potato CNR ever shows up)

Catfish Gumbo (Down-home Ajari style.  Mmmm-mmm!)

1 catfish fillet
1 steamed rice
4 white mushrooms
1 garlic clove
4 salt
2 pepper
2 corn kernels
1 Alchemist's Fire (for heat!)
1 bucket water

Curried Pike

1 pike fillet
1 ginger root
1 garlic clove
2 yellow mushroom
2 pepper
1 cow's milk

Let's give fish the culinary respect they deserve! Voice your opinions, or suggest additional recipes ...
