The Silver Buckle / Rare Auction
« on: December 13, 2016, 04:41:14 pm »
News arrives to Sagewald of a rare auction occurring in Port Hempstead's future. The first notice to arrive at the Silver Buckle is elegantly penned on silk and reads:

Coveted treasures await your eyes! From peace to war, fortune to misfortune, their blood endures as it has over one thousand years. The Duke. Sons of Kieran. Scholars of antiquities have attempted to view the family holdings and were repeatedly rebuffed - until now.

Announcing now, that not only is there to be an auction, but experts and scholars are invited to inspect the items before they change owners.

Prized objects, never before revealed to recorders of history. The very blade with which Calum Elf-Friend struck down his elvish brother in the second century.

Ebony figurines of creatures unknown, made from hardwoods now extinct on the peninsula.

Reservations for exclusive access will not be arranged; all would-be buyers or inspectors will be expected at the auction.

 *a time and day far enough in the future to allow a great deal of travel time is here*

General Discussion / NWN Free on GOG + Raffle for other games
« on: December 01, 2016, 09:38:41 pm »
Hey guys, just wanted to give you a heads up that there's still another day left in GOG's giving away of our long-time friend, Neverwinter Nights! If you have any friends you have ever wanted to try it out, now is the time to claim a key, because what was already cheap is temporarily gratis. Since this was done in conjunction with the neverwintervault community, they've also supplied keys to some other D&D games for the vault's raffle. While the main entries are for fan works (art or written), leftover keys will go to ANYONE who posts in that thread expressing interest. Even a "Me, too!" could net you a NWN2 key to keep or give away. It's worth noting that the neverwintervault community (well, Rolo) smelled trouble at IGN before the bomb dropped and worked in overdrive backing up and migrating the years worth of content the community had made, including the works Layonara makes use of... so even if you've never endorsed a modder's work, this is an easy (and potentially beneficial to you) way to support them by showing that people are still here and can handle a forum registration :P

General Discussion / The Great Spikes
« on: November 30, 2016, 05:03:03 pm »
Hello all, been a long time since I last posted to these forums.I have been recurring online at Layo for some minor streaks, and a thought occurred to me of arranging a trip to the Great Spikes to explore the regions with Görmungard, and wanted to ask who wants to come with me/him? :)The place is level 25-35 or something like that (recommendation), even the bears are tough as nails (yes, they might have cast-iron nails for nails and have got pretty tough hides too.)If a goodly amount of goody-two-shoes' can attend, this can be a fun venture for sure. And a long one, something like 4-6... 7(?) hours, or it might be made into a two-times event. Unfortunately that would have to mean we'd need to sit our characters there for yet-to-be undefined amount of time.Them blubbering giants won't know what hit them.

Development Journals and Discussion / The Journal of Kazerou Sumeragi
« on: November 21, 2016, 04:43:03 pm »
~~Novlar 11, 1571~~After a long journey I've finally arrived in Center, while it is early in the morning I feel I was a bit too eager to get here. After selling my armor and weaponry I was able to make the trip from Bilkan back to Hiso and then begin my journey for strength. My journey to Center was rather uneventful, no sign of any threats so that's a good sign. I do miss having a sword on my belt and armor but I will have to make due for now. Of course I made a contribution of 100 gold pieces to a local shrine of Prunila out of habit, perhaps the goddess will smile on my donation and grant the agriculture in the area a small blessing. While I do doubt this will do much I'm sure Lady Ilsare will smile down on me for it anyway. It was still rather dark when I arrived and now the suns up and the area's mostly illuminated by its warmth and I hope the merchants have set up or at least are able to help me find some pieces of gear to start my training with. The Sundial says 9 now, so perhaps I should get ready to see if theres any errands need doing and if there's some weapons and armor in stock.

Rumour Has It / Meanwhile, over in Taur'en...
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:33:13 pm »
"I'm putting you in charge of this, Captain Felmin. Here is the report from our advance scout." Commander Moreau hands the captain a thick roll of parchments. "Take two hundred men and secure the first three levels of the mine. Take the engineering team and cave in everything below that point. Once secured, send word, and then we'll send the necessary supplies to start turning the place into a usable fortified structure."

"Yes, sir."

"Read the report carefully, Felmin. Everything from deadly oozes to disgruntled beholders were found down there. If you want your men to leave, you best have plans to deal with everything mentioned in that report. Warrant Officer Dragonheart should meet you on location with any updated news."

"Anything else, sir?"

"Yes. About Dragonheart. She is skilled and loyal, but unpredictable. Be aware that if you give her an order, she may not go about fulfilling the order in the manner you desire. So be as explicit as possible."

"I'm sure I can handle the warrant officer, sir."

"Good luck with that. Dismissed."

The captain collects the two regiments, and sets out for the abandoned mine.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"He's gone."
"That's good news. Looks like he decided it wasn't worth the trouble."
"No, you don't understand. He was really unwilling to give up his home there."
"Apparently not as unwilling as you thought."
Tyrra squints both eyes. "Captain, I don't like it. Something isn't right, and there's a barrier down below which wasn't there before."
"We're caving it in anyway, Dragonheart, so that barrier means nothing to me."
"While we secure the place, I need you to take this message back to Fort Angle. For the commanders eyes only."
"But I can help wi-"
"You have your orders."
Sucking in a breath, "Yes, sir."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"It's been three weeks and we've heard nothing back from Captain Felmin. Take a horse and find out what's taking so long."

"Yes, sir." Tyrra turns to leave.

"Oh, and Dragonheart?"

She pauses, but does not turn.

"If something's gone wrong. Don't go digging around. Get your butt back here and let me know. Got it?"

"Got it."

"Excuse me?"

".... yes, Commander, sir."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"By the gods..... They're..... gone.... they're all gone...."
General Discussion / Why I don't log in (I will be tonight!)
« on: September 02, 2016, 07:49:55 pm »
Hey Team,I was just about to log on, I have lots of freetime tonight, and I realized why I don't routinly  anymore. The whole introduction thing that hides characters names when trying to send a tell upon logging in. I don't play much anymore but sometimes I have a hour or two where I can jump on. But... when I get on I can't see which character is which to send a tell and get into a group and have some fun in my limited time. Sending random tells to "someone" is no fun.Let me tell you there is nothing more frusterating than looking at the server status page and seeing folks I know and logging in only having to hunt them down in tell after tell to the wrong person.It makes joining the game and getting going a sloooow process, and with my very limited playtime I simply dont log in due to the fact that I know I'm going to waste my play time sending tells to the wrong people. (not to mention that I dont think the list is static, the "someones" on  the list move around with relogs...)Anyhow, I'm going to log in, and pester the "Someones" til maybe I get a party.Thank ya for reading, I mean no disrespect, but just wanted to bring up a major block to folks trying to get an hour or two once in a while in game.
Layonara Server / Housing Sweep -- 2016 Edition
« on: August 18, 2016, 11:30:15 pm »
Better late than never, I suppose!Here goes my first pass. For tradition and fairness, I'm going to list these here and give people a chance to a) lay claim or b) get their stuff out before the house is emptied and put back on the market.104 -- Galathea Arnaduillae
112 -- Asher Hardrock
122-- Ni'haer Barrit'tar
124 -- Lareth Vathach
131 -- Galen Iraes
136 -- Argali Trueaxe
138 -- Log Lightrunner
140 -- Twixel
142 -- Riley Alexander
143 -- Hanta Deshaldi
149 -- Elgon In'Darsus
150 -- Gormungard Boulderanvil
154 -- Ender Sai
156 -- Iradril Arkenrahel
174 -- Chakar Achmed El'Mujahir
175 -- Klaugraquene Dragonbane
179 -- Nex Jinkai
181 -- Calylith Eluchil
185 -- Starr Saphire
196 -- Azk'a Thunderaxe
203 -- Unther Hardhammer
204 -- Xanya Enyafailm
205 -- Grohin Silveraxe
206 -- Fehriel Cailomel
210 -- Drachus Vachar
217 -- Sein Alinds
221 -- Boon Loom
230 -- Gunther N'diknik
241 -- Abiorn Rukrym
246 -- Durgen Stormbrow
260 -- Wren Thendor
 This is a preliminary list. None of these characters have been seen in over two (2) years.Houses numbered in the 100's are either on Mistone or Alindor. Houses numbered in the 200's are largely on Dregar, though there are exceptions.NOTE: Potentially defunct guild halls are not listed. If I have mistakenly added a guild hall to this list, I will remove it, though defunct guild halls will be handled in some way at some point. They may be returned to the market and priced like houses according to their physical size at some later date.You may wonder what constitutes a valid claim on one of these houses. Primarily, either there's some long-term residence involved or a significant relationship (i.e. marriage, parent/child, etc.). In the case one of these houses is the hall of an active guild, but the owner is absent, the property can be transferred to one of the current active guild members.As mentioned in a previous thread, an open portal in a strategic location is not sufficient reason to maintain an otherwise empty or un-used house.In order to lay claim, put in a grievance/request for the transfer. It is not a guarantee we'll grant the request, but we will investigate and see if it is appropriate.To keep the process moving, we will only entertain claims for a period of two (2) weeks, after which any unclaimed houses will be emptied and placed back on the market. Any existing keys to these houses will no longer work after that point.If there are any questions, please ask below.
General Discussion / Reach out and find an oldtimer!
« on: July 01, 2016, 04:53:45 am »
Howdy folks!  With Rainstorff back in the mix after all these years, it's been excellent seeing some old blood show up.  Decided to hop on Facebook and ye olde email inbox to find some other old timers and get them back in the game.  So if any of you players out there still keep contact with some of the old faces that graced layo in the past, give them a holler and I'll get something whipped up on the GM side of things.  In any case, welcome back Rainstorff! -Brewmaster
« on: November 24, 2015, 11:49:33 am »
I just wanted to touch bases with my Layo family... Due to some RL work and personal things I'm taking a short break until January 1st. I may still be in the forums between now and then, and will continue working through the current CDQ I have going, but in-game quests will have to resume in the new year. Thanks for your support and understanding guys and gals... I will be back. :-)-Rave
Rumour Has It / Black Sand
« on: August 09, 2015, 10:51:12 pm »
Hasim whipped out his scimitar as the flap of his beit al-sha'r fluttered open, facing the newcomer who now framed his doorway… sand from the raging sandstorm blowing into the tent. Hasim’s cat-like stance was obviously that of an expert bladesman. Through his parched lips the man begged forgiveness for his intrusion and asked for shelter.The Law of Diyafa required that Hasim show hospitality to the stranger. In the hostile and unforgiving environment of the desert strangers and travelers did not often cross his path. Although cautious, he invited the man inside and prepared the first cup of coffee.'Al Heif' was poured: The first cup of coffee to be poured and tasted by the host to let the guest feel safe.'Al Keif' was poured: The second cup of coffee to be poured and tasted by the guest himself.'Al Dheif' was poured (The cup of the guest)… the third cup of coffee, to be drunk by the guest.After this, the stranger told a wild tale. He explained that he was a mercenary and was part of a company that had taken a complex of caves rich in ore. They dug too deep though, and disturbed ancient burial chambers. A great evil was awoken… a master and his 12 sons. He rambled on, fear obviously in his eyes. After several hours he asked for a water skin and departed.Hasim stood in the doorway, thoughtful. The sandstorm had subsided. He remembered tales as a boy told by his great grandmother of an ancient Sorcerer King named Amennaanka who lived several centuries ago. He was also said to have 12 sons and was an evil blight that disappeared after his kingdom was overthrown. Where he went, or what happened to him, nobody knew.Hasim called his son from another room and ordered him to run to the other tents and tell the rest of the clan they were moving out. He wanted to be far from this place by dusk. There was a sense of wrongness in the air, and the stranger was a bad omen. // This is a static quest and it has been placed in-game. Feel free to use this thread for RP/Forum posts. Significant posting will also be rewarded at the conclusion of the quest.This is a tough one, CR can get pretty high. The soul mother is active and a balanced group is advised. You have been warned. Rewards have been placed in game as well. Also, the boss has been assigned a special XP bonus for this one… If you beat him/her/it, you deserve it. The reward is set to scale to the party with a max. This means the more people in the party, the more XP. Unfortunately you don’t know what the max party cap  is. ;-)Good luck! PS - DO NOT sneak in invisibly and steal the quest rewards. At the conclusion of the quest, please send me a private message and let me know what loot you found to confirm fair play.-Rave
Ancients Legacy / Missives Sent
« on: July 10, 2015, 11:24:30 pm »
As a small group arrives at Bloody Gate, Plenarius takes no time to breath and immediately blows some shrill whistles for messenger falcons. A few arrive and he sends out some hastily scribed notes to friends and acquaintances.He then heads to the Bloody Gate temple and describes the situation to the leaders, not even awaiting any confirmation of aid or course of action by the dwarves his necessity to move being of the highest importance.He takes flight and heads westward and arrives at the Wolfswood and immediately heads to the headquarters of the Wolfswood Rangers. Again he describes what amounts to a very important crusade into Milara's domain and awaits how they wish to offer aid if at all.He returns to Bloody Gate and collapses for a rest. As he drifts off he wonders if it will be the last safe rest he will have for a long time.
Rumour Has It / Moonlight Shadows
« on: July 08, 2015, 11:26:52 pm »
//This will be a thread for an upcoming event that will occur at a time to be announced later. For those players wanting to become involved, please begin posting here in this thread. As with all of my quest story lines, this will run for a couple of weeks and help to flesh out and give the online portion direction. As always, I award fortune for forum involvement. Easy experience if you ask me….------Not far from Lake Ravine in the Silkwood a dark shadow moved through the underbrush, wisps of moonlight occasionally brushing thick tangled hair on arms and back. It snarled as Ausir’s light touched its form. Muscles and sinew rippled under dense fur. It stopped and sniffed the air, intense on capturing a scent. After taking in the smells of the surrounding area it howled and returned to the hunt.------Arin was used to the woods and its creatures, but the sound of an eerie howl carried across the wind to his small home. He was well acquainted with all of the local wildlife, and there was an immediate sense of wrongness about this sound. He had lived in the small cabin near the neighboring village of Rho for nearly a decade. The smoldering fire on his hearth cast reddish light throughout the interior of his cabin. He grabbed his crossbow, loaded a shaft, and opened the door to check on his chicken coop.------He ran for Rho, his now empty crossbow clasped tightly in his hand. His breath came in ragged huffs and immediately fogged and dissipated into the cold night air. Arin knew his life was probably at an end, but he ran anyway. That’s what his father had always taught him… never give up. Never. That was the last thought that flitted through his mind before the beast leapt upon him and tore his throat out. His gods were merciful and allowed him to expire before the creature began to feed.------Two militiamen from Rho looked around the thick brush, weapons at the ready. The woodcutter had reported the torn up body earlier that morning. It lay not far from them, mangled, half eaten. Some personal effects on the dead man identified him as Arin, a homesteader that lived not far from their village. He was a good man and well liked. The evidence at the scene indicated Arin was running when he was ambushed. Large canine tracks were found everywhere. Larger than any they had ever seen before. They collected the body and made their way back to Rho to report their findings and to give Arin a descent burial.Later that day messengers were dispatched to nearby towns for assistance. A 1,000 true reward was posted for the head of the responsible animal.
Ancients Legacy / Ancients Legacy -- Finale Preparation -- IMPORTANT
« on: June 24, 2015, 10:01:38 pm »
All,As a reminder, the Ancients Legacy Plot Finale will happen on Saturday, July 11th, 2015. We are planning on a quest of about three (3) hours...ideally less than that...hopefully not much more.The last of the wrap-up RP from the prior quest session is concluded. We're now just over two weeks away from the Finale event itself, you have a goal (and if you don't have any idea what it is, ask someone), you have some idea what you might face (ditto), but if you do nothing to prepare before the quest (last minute investigations, following of clues/suggestions, seeking assistance, etc.), you will be at a significant disadvantage when the Finale starts.To that end, and because Rowana and I have a lot to do to prepare for this and little time to do it, please get all your requests, questions, desired actions and intentions to Rowana and I no later than Saturday, July 4, 2015 to ensure we have ample time to respond and address them. Any requests received after July 4th will be handled on an as-possible basis, and we cannot guarantee they will receive the necessary attention after this date. We will make every best effort to wrap up anything started prior to that date.In addition, at least one of us is generally on IRC throughout most of the day and evening, Central US time, so that is a viable option for asking us plot-related things. This also works well for brief interactions with NPCs.Simply put, that with which you collectively start the quest will have a direct impact on your chances of success.  If you wait until the day of the quest to rally support or figure out where you're going, you will eat into the time set aside for the quest, and your chances will be far less than if these things are at least initiated before the quest. Please plan accordingly.With that all said, our PM boxes are open!
Rumour Has It / Rael is stalwart
« on: May 10, 2015, 11:01:13 am »
Inquiries made to Rael for lifting their much more restrictive quarantine in the interests of trade and travel are answered with an elaborate and formal response stating that research still continues and that the health, safety and security for all of Rael's residents is Lord Rael's primary concern. The kingdom's borders remain closed.
