General Discussion / Still a heartbeat away...
« on: July 17, 2018, 11:26:43 pm »
As I surf around the various video games, I consistently grow nostalgic for the worlds that defined me as an RP player. It is the world, not the game medium, that engaged me. The fellow players, the evolving world lore, the sense of belonging, that drew me in.

I am thankful that these forums still exist, as just a few other persistent NWN worlds still do, so that I may occasionally drop by. With each login of another game and world, it is still compared to the rich entertainment that past communities produced.

I still hold out hope... hold my breath... for a platform that may reunite our collective worldly imagination. Until then, my heart felt thanks to all those that influenced and contributed to my own virtual stories.

May the dragons continue to whisper.

Layonara Server / Anniversary Bonus Event
« on: June 12, 2017, 09:58:31 pm »
Greetings Layonara CommunitySome of you may know that Neverwinter Nights turned 15 this year. Most of you may not know, however, that the NWN incarnation of Layonara also turns 15 in just a couple of weeks. In observance of these major milestones, we will be holding an anniversary Bonus Event, starting Saturday, June 24th and running for about a month. During this period, XP, Fortune and gold drops will all be doubled. As with previous bonus events, the doubling of XP and Fortune will also apply to GM rewards for quests and RP.This event overlaps with another anniversary event targeted at the greater NWN community known as the Neverwinter Nights Player Appreciation Days (NWPAD). The details of the event are somewhat uncertain as yet, but if anyone wants to keep up with the news on NWPAD, here’s a link:https://neverwintervault.org/comment/31548Once we have something more definite on that schedule, we’ll be sure to update everyone with the details. Thanks to everyone who has played here over the last 15 years!

Ask A Gamemaster / NPC Quests
« on: May 27, 2017, 09:56:48 am »
Can GM's reset or complete the NPC quests? The NPC quests are an excellent add-on to Layonara, with one down-side.Mithril items eventually come around, and because no one is willing or able to use Mithril to complete these quests, they remain for the duration, until all available NPC quests require mithril in some form or other, and I think it's two weeks must pass-by before they are reset to something else. The NPC quests have currently been unavailable for about a week and a half, perhaps more, and there is a good chance when they reset that one of the "new" jobs they offer will again be a mithril based item, requiring another two weeks before it is reset. It would be useful if, like now, when all available jobs are mithril based and uncompletable, if a GM could reset them.

Hi,My brother and I both can't get into game.  When we select a character at the login screen and hit the play button, we get a message that says: "Invalid Character - Player login refused, Bear, Dire".  This happens when trying to login with any of our 6 combined characters.  I'm hoping it's just temporary, but I'll let you know.Davidhoff

After the visit to Kuhl, Argali visits the ledge overlooking Haven once more. She discusses the events with whomever went, or those who were unable to attend but would like to know more.

"Well, it zeems Argali's idle [POST=1467112]zpeculation[/POST] was just that. The Bastion did not die from the Dragon Poizon. He died frrom the wounds inflicted by the Tarrnished Death. Zis iz the drragon, alzo known as the Ractrafieroz. He was the one Argali [POST=1466522]mentions[/POST] who had Brrenuth laid siege to by the giants to ask who iz opening the Path of the Claw.

"As many zuspected after the visit to the Deepening Dark, the Shadrixkayl has been in league with the Cult of the Green Dragon. But not just that, the Shadrixkayl is in partnerzhip with the Ractrafieroz, and togetherr they werre in league with the Cult.

"Zis included the Ractrafieroz brreaking down the gates of Westgate for the Cult, which iz cauzing the final fall of Kuhl."

She pauses to allow the gravity of this to sink in.

"Yes, drragons helping the Green Drragon Cult, the verry zame Cult who iz poizoning and enzlaving otherr drragons."

She furrows her brow and rubs her temples in response to this seeming grand act of betrayal.

"The stakes to commit zuch an atrrocity must be high, no?

"And indeed, it zeems they werre. Farr higherr then many of us arre apprreciating. Forr what would they do zuch a thing? The Tearr of Orrn, no less."

She pauses again to allow the gravity of that to sink in or perhaps explain the implications(1).

"However, the return of the Tearr of Orn to Fisterion zeemingly brroke the barrgain between the Cult and these two drragons. And as we have learnt, drragons do not like to have theirr bargains brroken. The attack on Lerrigard by the Snowtooth attests to that. Zo, in retaliation for the Cult being unable to zupply the Tearr of Orrn, Ractrafieroz attacks and kills the Bastion."

She shakes her head at the machinations and acts of skullduggery. She then takes a slow breath.

"And who do we have to thank forr zis inforrmation?"

She grits her teeth despite herself, before answering.

"The Black Wizarrds, it would zeem. And, and not only that, it zeems they arre keeping trrack of the numberr of times they have helped us(2), and at the very least it would zeem they conziderr us in theirr debt, orr worrse, perrhaps even allies."

(1) for those who don't know, she explains the Tear of Orn is one of a pair of scrying devices. Orn's Tear allows the holder to scry across the lands. Orn's Tear is "traditionally" held by Fisterion and was stolen from him and used by the Cult to track down dragons to poison and enslave. It was subsequently returned to Fisterion after the attack on Molvaren's castle (but only just). Its partner, Ausir's Tear, blocks such scrying. Ausir's Tear is "traditionally" held by Shadrixkayl. This distributed ownership helps maintain the balance of power between Fisterion and Shadrixkayl, who are rivals. It was suspected that the Cult has had access to Ausir's Tear, and if Shadrixkayl has indeed been in league with the Cult, this would seem to be confirmed.

(2) if asked how the Black Wizards have helped, she says they take credit for showing us the way to Shadrixkayl, and for this latest bit of information. She points out that it has been suspected that the Black Wizards were behind the Cult, or allowed them use of their Bloodpool of the creation of the half-dragons, but these suspicions have so far been unsubstantiated.

Rumour Has It / A Day of Celebration in Nel
« on: October 08, 2009, 10:24:16 am »
" A day of celebration was held within the city of Nel today, to celebrate the town's triumphs over the past years, and to bring praise and attention to those who have worked so diligantly through their darkest of times.

The Guild known as the White Lily, have been granted the Honorary title of "Shields of Nel", coming with it all the respect and admiration the town could muster, in reward for their continued service in safeguarding the town and it's people.

The celebrations continued on until the early hours of the morning, and it was declared henceforth, every Seplar 10th, would be known as White Lily day, and it would therefore become an annual holiday. "

General Discussion / Common Courtesy
« on: September 24, 2009, 08:13:08 am »
A few thoughts after having read this thread
http://forums.layonara.com/leringard-arms-inn-tavern/245722-white-lily-proudly-presents-night-duels.html#post1425582

While there is nothing wrong is asking question in order to better understand any event, then do please bear in mind what is ooc and what is ic. In this case the post was made IC in a IC forum, but out of the 25 posts so far only 2 of them are ic, and frankly most of them are completely unrelated to the event and deals with rules regarding magic dead areas, which should have been taken up in either http://forums.layonara.com/layonara-server-rules/ or http://forums.layonara.com/ask-gamemaster/

Do please remember that there is a player who has taken time to make this, give him/her the same courtesy you would give a dm setting time aside to run a quest, or such events are sure to die out. And really, dont post links to different player events in the same thread, IMO that is extremely rude and belittles the effort the player put into the event. And read the event over before starting to ask questions a competition among fighters and those who think they can stand a fight in range of a melee weapon. Everyone is welcome for this even, may it be to attend as a fighter and prove ones skill with a weapon, or just to watch the combatants fight.

In this case I cant see how the player could have been more clear to his/hers intent, as already being said not every event is for every character, if the event dont fit you make one that does. All the more fun for us all, but please dont take it out on the person who actually bothered to try and make something fun

Rumour Has It / A Dawn of new Heroes
« on: May 21, 2009, 05:41:47 am »

A recent attack on the small town of Nel in the Sun Kingdom was thwarted, thanks to the prompt arrival of a group of adventurer's, and the increasingly popular White Lily.

The attempted attack came without warning or reason, as hosts of armoured constructs came in waves at the town.

Thankfully, this was averted... and the constructs never came within reach of the town, due in no small part to the adventurer's that arrived in the nick of time.

Losses were felt in the small village of Fenberry, just outside of Nel. Though thanks to quick evacuation plans, most of the civilians were able to escape to Nel with minimum loss of life.

Still no word explains what provoked this attack, or what its purpose was, though links lead to the recently escaped bandit Sashka, who escaped from Hlint with aid and made her way back to Alindor.

But Nel was thankful last night, and welcomed the adventurers that arrived to defend them, claiming them as heroes of the town.

Rumour Has It / Prisoner Transport in Nel
« on: April 30, 2009, 05:23:53 am »

A high profile prisoner involved in banditry, murder and kidnapping has recently been escorted from Nel to a currently undisclosed location within the Sun Kingdom.

This comes after a near-tragic kidnapping and ransom attempt on a local and well-loved businessman from the Purple Worm trading company within Nel.

Thanks to a small group of astute and daring adventurer's, the man was rescued and due to local outrage at the event, authorities have removed the prisoner from Nel to await trial.

Member's of a little known Guild "The White Lily", originally responsible for the capture of the bandit leader, are also known to be responsible for the rescue of the kidnapped and the forcing of the prisoners relocation.
